I grew mostly knowing him as Mermaid Man from SpongeBob, but I would watch Convoy as kid with my dad and never put two and two together until years later. Lol He was one hell of an actor.

I remember reading an after report on the Marine compound in Beirut when they were attacked by the truck. One marine fired at him with his varmint rifle the AR and that was deemed to have done nothing. They said even an M60 wouldn't have been effective. They concluded the Marines needed a 50 cal, MA2. Personally, I feel like we should provide our folks with real fire power, an M61 Vulcan cannon mounted on a humvee, 20MM, 6K rounds a minute, nothing could get through a gate!

That ol Mack would've still caused that tank damage if it had stayed on a collision course. I drove a blue one like that pulling logs once and I loved it. Was a very tough and well built old truck unlike these today. And also, if there were 10,000 gallons of Nitro in there , the whole bridge would have been wiped out along with anyone or anything within at least a 100 yard radius.
The reason according to legend that it sounds like a gm is they dubbed the sound over the original engine sound. Some say it was a buzzin dozen, some say 8V71. There were 4 trucks in the movie. 2 of em had cummims engines. As for the small block V8's, a friend of mine had one pulling produce and another friend has one on a low loader. Both trucks pull very well and sound awesome. Kick myself every time i think i could have bought one but didn't.
@@68modelpete10 Like 'MOvin' On'. One time you hear a Cummins or a 3406 and the next it's be an 8-V. Hollowood is too hollow for me. You can't mistake the sound of a 2-stroke over a 4. Not if you've ever heard one and knew what it was.

Leon Topodium the Jake brake kicks in automatically when he takes his foot off the throttle it helps slow the Truck down but wasn’t enough time before it went over

The very last scene of that bowed up angry duck sitting on the hood right before the trailer explodes is just BAD FREAKIN ASS!! Like it still ain't scared of nothing and coming straight for ya!!
It's surprising that the bridge was still standing after that explosion. As the story goes, the 7,000 gallons of nitromanite was a Class B explosive, literally a high powered bomb on wheels!

Loved the movie, the song and the quack quack at the end LOL. This movie is what kicked off the trucker movie craze of the mid to late 1970s, bringing us shows like BJ and the Bear and the iconic Smokey and the Bandit. Good movie, I need to readd it to my collection.
Despite using a Tank to take down this Mack it was a heavy hauler, take those trucks and replace em with the newer rigs with a push bar to protect the grill it wouldn't stop for anything, the main reason this Mack stopped is the Tanker blowing up, otherwise it would plow them into pancakes .

For anyone who wants to know, the vehicle the M60 GPMG is mounted on is an M42 SPAA. also called a Duster.
