  • How to Back Up Files with File History in Windows 10
If you want to backup your data files in Windows 10, I will show you how with File History. I will be backing up to a external drive, but this could be a flash drive or network drive.
Its very important to backup your data on a regular basis, especially with ransomware about, once hit with ransomware it will encrypt all your data and make it nearly impossible to recover without paying there ransom.
    So remember BACKUP, BACKUP, BACKUP.
    incremental backup
    differential backup

how small are the backed up files comparing to the original? in other words if I want to back up a 1GB file how much space I need for it in the backup drive? 500mb? less? or more?

Nice I can see all system folders :). Actually time to time I used the System GoBack Free (to save all system) software. But now I can do it by selecting what I need to save. Cool :)!

Thank you, very much. I recently bought an external backup drive, but was unable to use the software that came with it. Seagate emailed back, with a link to this video. Now I have my new backup drive set for automatically backing up. I'm actually going to use it as a sort of backup backup, so after it's done, I'm going to disconnect it, and delete dozens of GB that are clogging my original backup drive. Then I'll be able to use the internal, smaller backup drive as originally intended by the people who built my laptop. You've been a big help.

I know this is a late comment but im in the same situation with seagate software, i thought the drive was just a giant usb and this bullshit toolkit thing not being able to register some bullshit so i ended up ignoring it. They got me here to.

@@jorgefierro8241 Thanks, Jorge. I guess it's just too much for anyone to write software for external drives that will always be able to work, without a hitch, on any platform.

Really good video-just a quick question-will ransomeware encrypt the file history or is this like shadow copy?

Once you have done the initial full back-up, will future back-ups just add changed and added files, or will it write another complete back-up until the drive is full?

Britec09 seems not answer any question.
I think this backup system will not restore files to a new HD for files backedup from an old replaced HD. Am I wrong?

Thank you! I don't have enough space on my laptop anymore, so I need to save some files on an external hard drive and/or online, and erase some from the laptop. I have been perplexed how to backup my computer so that I will find and easily retrieve the files... I have a number of folders with different files, and sometimes add to these folders, some remain more inactive, but maybe add something after a year or so... I don't know how to backup efficiently - any tips or helpful resources, free or cheap/affordable?

Another useful video, however, the process does not always back-up all selected files. I used to use it and due to this issue moved to Acronis (which you have to purchase).

Sorry I have a problem, I want to backup all the files in my desktop but this folder has the path : C:/user/desktop/OneDrive
In fact, the desktop folder in my backup is empty. I tried to add the right folder, but the system seems to force the Onedrive folder. How can I do ?

While I like the tool I hate how it wastes so much space on every window and you have to scroll down to see all the folders that you can choose to backup. Come on Microsoft!
