Please do more of these - might I recommend something like Metropolis or Lava Reef? (would be cool to see how your process works for interior-themed zones) This was awesome to watch, looking forward to seeing more of your project too!
hill top just went from great to amazing with your work, it's amazing to see how you work and make backgrounds. i think hill top could fit in to sonic studio (but still it's up to you if want or not)
I'm aspiring to be an artist in general, and recently started getting back into Sonic in a large part thanks to finding out about your project. I was already planning to study Mania, 3&K, and Generations (Classic) while searching for my style. And this has me keeping an eye on pixel art especially. Many things here I would've gone about in such a more time wasting approach that this was a life saver. I truly do appreciate this, and all your work on this project. I can definitely feel your passion for things. Even if not everyone cares; I do think sharing some of your other projects wouldn't be too bad. Though; maybe not here specifically. Regardless; I hope you're staying safe and healthy. o/
A technique you can use in aseprite is called tiled mode. This will allow you to draw on horizontally and vertically repeating textures so you can test to see how it would look it it was tiled beside itself. Its seamlessly draws across tiles allowing you to easily make a good looking repeating texture. You could do this by copying the section you want to work on, create a new project with that copy, then click view -> tiled mode -> then any axis you want to draw for. Hope this helps. Keep up the great work :)
Just wondering, why dont you make each line of "surface" cloud's its own layer, and each cloud line moving at different speeds to create unique wind currents and unique background animation.?
Id love to see a timelapse of the background for a stage you will include. So it has all the edits and tweaks youre looking for in the final result. Doesnt have to be a rundown or walkthrough like this was. Idk, i just enjoyed watching this! Thanks
I'm in love with the Bob Ross pixel art video here. Please make more of these these are so good! And it doesn't even have to be Sonic mania related just pixel art in general is great to watch
This looks incredible. I saw a Sonic Mania mod which remakes a lot of old levels and I'm just like 'They could really use the new Hill Top background lmao'' Keep up the good work!
[5:56] By the way, the further mountains in the background of Hill Top Zone are a repeating pattern because they are on the same layer as the closer mountains, so the graphics for them need to be dynamic in VRAM depending on where Sonic/Tails is.
It's make like more than a year i have your Green Hill Zone background in wallpaper on my smartphone and i still really love it ! Thank you for this incredible work !
I never noticed that the distant mountains resemble the foreground. Now I'm imagining a 3D rendition of this stage that actually wraps around the brown peaks. Anywho, I just wanted to say that this project of yours is incredibly inspiring! I've just recently began developing assets for my own fangame, and seeing other people make such great stuff helps me stay motivated to put my all into it. So, thanks for that.
You're fantastic at pixel art! i just started with it, and i really want to learn good techniques for it.. but wow, you just kind of know everything i wish i knew. big props to you
Holy shit your pixel art is really good. It may not be 'detailed' or 'smooth' but it definitely feels like an evolution of the original, with more texture and variation. Nice job, love this project!
What an amazing video! Your pixel art skills are in sonic mania tier level of beauty, really hope to see more of those, I also really hope that there's one of those with a city zone, maybe the scraped zone of sonic 2, genocide city\cyber city.
I like the way you are treating this project and to be honest I love the fact you are giving life to underrated Sonic Zones :) Not gonna lie, now I feel like we need Hill Top as an update xD
Dude this level of remastering is something I would expect from a mania sequel, and here it is in one guy making a level editor by himself! Very impressive!
Truly amazing! you never cease to amaze me. alsooo... If you're gonna add Sonic CD stages, that would make my day. *cough* stardust speedway *cough* quartz quadrant
this just goes to show how much effort he puts into the game. from my point of view, i only noticed a change in the green hill background bc i'ts been seen a lot lately. maybe i'm just dumb idk lol. the point is, if anyone asks you when is the game being released at this point, they're not even watching this.
Wow! I absolutely love this! I'm a pixel artist as well, but Id like to improve to the level of quality shown here! I would love watching you stream this kind of thing! :D
if it weren't for the fact that you started this a bit later than mania came out this making your public entrance too late Sega would have probably asked you to help with the art of Sonic mania.
I haven't finish watching the video yet but I'm sure this will help me on making pixel art since I literally just started not long ago this month, thank you for this video! :D
You put so much effort into creating these AMAZING backgrounds. The players don’t really take into such consideration on backgrounds, but this is gonna be an acception considering how much work went into these beautiful pieces of (slightly compressed) art! PS: During the video I was wondering though why you put details behind other mountains?
Yes. I became confused why you put the small orange mountains behind the giant ones. The players not going to really see them...wait I forgot layer scrolling exists.
8:26 should’ve made the lava pools purple because it’s in the further background and it clashes with the teal of the level when you see it further away

This looks beautiful dude, I'd love to see sonic CD zones like stardust speedway In your style
Yeah I can imagine those big zones with all the details, and when seeing closely you can see some part of the levels
Stardust Speedway would be incredible!
or some boring bgs

Please do more of these - might I recommend something like Metropolis or Lava Reef? (would be cool to see how your process works for interior-themed zones)
This was awesome to watch, looking forward to seeing more of your project too!
Yes Metropolis Mixed With Wood Zone
Metropolis + Wood = Mood Zone.
A MOOD ZONE! 🤦♂
@@metallicmadman7182 pretty sure everyone knows that wood zone is actually in the present timeline and casino night is future for wood zone
"I couldn't add anything to Mystic Cave"
*See you next game!*
hill top just went from great to amazing with your work, it's amazing to see how you work and make backgrounds.
i think hill top could fit in to sonic studio (but still it's up to you if want or not)
Could fit? Sonic Studio have the unused Wood Zone
It looks a lot like Hill Top from Sonic Hysteria
Man this looks amazing.
I do love pixel art and its nice to see someone going indev like this.
Sega employ this man now.
Nope, Freedom Planet got him first
Nathaniel Grizzle that was him? Damn that first level blew my mind.
To the guy who made the video, Give me some of that iq please
NINTENDO HIRE THIS MAN
El Pana Sintético I dunno this guy and whitehead should just take over sonic team lol
NPC #76 man employ this sega now
Dude you pay so much attention to detail it's honestly amazing! Your just a fantastic pixel artist in general!
What a birthday gift (today's my birthday)

Pimp my Hills. Nice. Never knew you took a more painterly approach. Makes me think I could start learning pixel art, too. **w**
7:00 i barely even do pixel art but this is the most relatable thing
Hill Top and Mystic Cave are the best zones in Sonic 2. They both have great music, awesome gimmicks and of course, amazing backgrounds.
I like what you did with the wispy clouds and the background mountains.
truly impressive my guy, great work. Can't wait to see all the various backgrounds when Studio releases
Just wondering, why dont you make each line of "surface" cloud's its own layer, and each cloud line moving at different speeds to create unique wind currents and unique background animation.?

Really glad to see you're uploading more often! Even if it's really only small things, it's always just great to see your stuff!
I'm in love with the Bob Ross pixel art video here. Please make more of these these are so good! And it doesn't even have to be Sonic mania related just pixel art in general is great to watch
@@LapperDev It's ASMR pixel art, of course I did 😂
It's still an amazing pixel artwork mod whether it's sonic-related or not.

Keep up the good work!
Dude your art and hardwork is getting me pumped for the release!!! Keep working hard and take breaks!
Do more of these!!! This was so cool! I’d love to see showcases of all the other backgrounds too!
I love what you did with Hill Top. Makes me want to do my own background revamp!
I’m loving these smaller but more frequent updates. Real neat. Keep up the great work
The art is amazing but damn i need to hug whoever edited the video because every second of it is amazing.
I've always wanted to learn pixel art like this
[5:56] By the way, the further mountains in the background of Hill Top Zone are a repeating pattern because they are on the same layer as the closer mountains, so the graphics for them need to be dynamic in VRAM depending on where Sonic/Tails is.
The backgrounds you make seem to give some much needed depth and color in general, great job!
I love how alive you make Hilltop look! It's brilliant!
Yes ! Please make more, this is was super interesting !
Ah yes, the best map from sonic 2. Hope to see it make it to the level designs
It's make like more than a year i have your Green Hill Zone background in wallpaper on my smartphone and i still really love it ! Thank you for this incredible work !

I'd... Try it if I can! plus I love the work on the game!
That looks amazing, and an one of my favorite zone, but still, nevertheless, that was so cool!!! I know what I wanna try now.
You're fantastic at pixel art! i just started with it, and i really want to learn good techniques for it.. but wow, you just kind of know everything i wish i knew. big props to you
Stuff like this really motivates me to get more into pixel art.
Man, i really love the art style of the game, keep up the good work with this 👍

A.M.A.Z.I.N.G
Very good job. You're very talented.
The Pixel God Manuscripts were just as i predicted... the background is so beautiful that i would make out with it
We can no longer ignore it. It's too appealing.
I almost cried a tear from how Beautiful them backgrounds were
Nice work! Would love to see more "tutorial" stuff from you
Wow! I absolutely love this! I'm a pixel artist as well, but Id like to improve to the level of quality shown here! I would love watching you stream this kind of thing! :D
There's nothing to change about Mystic Cave. You can't improve on perfection
I'd wait as long as needed for the masterpiece of a game
Hilltop was one of my favorite stages on Sonic 2
You are the best, sonic, the hedgehog artist
Hill Top is one of my favourites. Next I wanna see Hydrocity!
Hydrocity > Hydro City
if it weren't for the fact that you started this a bit later than mania came out this making your public entrance too late Sega would have probably asked you to help with the art of Sonic mania.
The caves were a great idea. I think it kind of shows how sonic got into the mystic cave.
I recognize a perfectionist when I see one. It's both a blessing and a curse heh Loving your work, Lewis! The attention to detail is superb!
@@LapperDev Do please keep being awesome!

This is epic. Far better than what I can do really. Also, just a question. What do you use to develop the physics for your fan game?
8:26 should’ve made the lava pools purple because it’s in the further background and it clashes with the teal of the level when you see it further away
