Van I just was trying to have my morning coffee.
Brancusi, I so enjoy this quote of his "Create like a god, command like a king, work like a slave."
That quote is quite possibly the only way to make a living as an artist! The first and third thought are always on the tip of my brain. The second one, I give into to being to nice and polite.
You know you have seen a really fine piece of art when you spend far more time thinking about it afterwards than the length of the video or movie.
I really hope this isn't where we lose Van to the financial pursuit algorithm. This channel is a breath of fresh air. Hell, even his "sales pitches" are tolerable because it's done in a grass roots and honest way. Don't lose that pure and unadulterated spirit. You are a beacon of hope in this over saturated and extremely diluted creative realm that we're all living in.
If you don’t want to loose him to the pursuit of money, than join his patreon so he doesn’t have to feed the algorithm to make money.
Honestly this is out touch with reality. Simply put: mans gotta eat. Don't fault him for trying to survive as a creator. In my opinion his method for trying to raise funds is extremely palatable. He's not shoving products down our throats, he is instead offering to share his tools and knowledge for a fair price. Tools and knowledge I might add that we all obviously appreciate because we are here, it's not a far leap to think that some would contribute to the channel in exchange for a more in depth lesson on Van's creative process. Tbh get out of here with this critical nonsense... People live in the real world.
True that
This is a video so much deeper than a financial pursuit...
@@beggbasso287, that’s how he’s packaged it…so you say and feel exactly what you said.
I already loved this channel but bringing Tarkovsky in it just makes me love it even more
There's this powerful and very noticeable attraction for money that you and Casey share, apart from the obvious and natural attraction we all have for it, once Casey got there, he turned off. I hope you manage to outsmart that temptation and save the spirited man. cool vid.
Great observation. Partially I believe it comes from them growing up with very little. I also think Casey wanted to make money out of art and creativity (as they did with the neistat brothers) - maybe his disappearance has more to do with him seeing that as a bit of a shame. He is a great artist but his real money was done as a public speaker and business deals. Van in a different mix, for one not nearly as good with business but maybe more talented in raw creativity.
Casey’s wife is part of the problem
Casey's spirited videos were all of them before daily vloging and becoming this celebrity, videos then shifted to shalow bits. His spirited videos were more toughtfull and went to depth and has creative energy. Van's all video has this metaphysical feel that transcendence they simple predispotion and goes into poethic realm
Money creates opportunities/ possibilities. It's extremely difficult to overcome this thought. I, too, grew up being deprived of opportunities.
I see Van's recent appeals for money as a cancer on this body of work, when it started it felt like my ObiWan had reverted to being just an Anyone. Magic powers gone. But he is aware of it. This is a wonderful video.
Stalker himself was porcupine (he wears piece of cloth around his neck to cover the marks of strangulation)
This is incredible Van. This really took me on an emotional journey, struggling to make ends meet with my own art. You're the voice of every artist, and you're Andrey TArkovsky for me. I know it sounds real dumb but I've been a fan of you since I was a kid. After watching 2 episodes of The Neistat Brothers I felt deeply depressed and upset, because I knew I wanted to make videos like you but I could never ever do that in my life time. Years later and many hours spent making films, I realized that the curse you gave me was in fact a blessing, a sort of dream which I hope to achieve in my lifetime. I love you Van, please never ever stop making art.
cool man
Beware when dabbling with magik.
No such thing.
@@jakestroll6518 then be glad you will never have to beware :)
Van, you totally got me with this one. Stalker is one of the movies that left me most internally-troubled ever. Glad you appreciate it.
When I first saw it, it was just because we were told to do so (along with another 100 essential movies) in order to pass our Cinema Class (I was studying Computer Engineering and this was one of those stupid subjects you choose thinking it will mean 0 work). Well, turns out that Stalker... along with Pierrot Le Fou triggered something inside me because some years later I was studying cinema.
Two things really surround this movie that totally get me. 1) The fact that is a Sci-Fi movie with 0-paraphernalia but effective as hell (similar to la Jetee) 2) The fact that it almost talks of what later became Chernobyl.
Nothing is really explained, but somehow you know at the end of the movie why each of them choose their decision. And the porcupine paradox: would you accept to receive your inner desires (which you really don't know but the room does) even thought they might destroy your image of yourself?
Great, great movie.
Honestly van watching your videos changed my life around from doing nothing to being a cyber security expert for a large company, so thank you and much love to you and your family 👪 😀
You are a very smart man. I agree we all need money to get through life but don't let it rule your life.
your repairing videos brings me so much calm and also helps with anxiety
You are doing a great job Van
Love from India
this film of Van's was one of the many nails that hammered in my admiration for Tarkovsky. i had the privilege of seeing Stalker for the first time last night in a local theatre. fixated on the stillness, i barely blinked for the whole run time, and felt a certain longing when it ended. thank you Van for helping encourage the patience i'm learning to instil into my art and my everyday.
This was perhaps the most spirited of the presentations yet. Like a Wizard whose one rule is "one can not use magic for personal gain," it seems the spirited folk are not allowed to turn their cursory eye inward and express through art the crux of what is essential to the self. An odd rule. There is no external machination to stop them...merely their own construct for retribution.
Never be afraid of a truth you’re about to uncover. Be afraid of the lie that you want to believe instead. It’s much scarier.
Most videos I watch are throwaway entertainment; watch once, forget it ever existed 20 minutes later. I've watched this one twice already and I'll watch it again and again and again. Haunting.
Never fail to impress. Your videos just take me somewhere else
dude your recent videos have been some of the best content I've seen on this website in a long time. keep doing what you're doing and I hope you're happy doing it
Stalker is such a great film - literally gasped at points. And this is a great video - one of your best yet
Every video of yours grows on me. Keep being spirited my man!
Certainly one of the best videos you've made yet, great work Van
This is one of the best creators on this platform! Love these videos!
I will always take time for your channel, no matter if you make something deep, or just mowing the lawn because of scheduling conflicts! LIfe is all amazing in all its grit from your point of view! thank you for being inspirational, not just monetizational!
This is one of a few channels that I can give a thumbs up before I even get to watch the video! I love these projects.
This might be one of my favorites by you Van. Really a masterpiece. Thank you!
For once, I'm finally early for a Van Neistat video and it feels good ngl
I was first once. ahhh … memories. 🙂
felt this one the deepest yet. keeping guiding us through this chaos.
Well, I now have a better understanding of what Stalker was all about.
This analysis is not about the Stalker
me too! Thanks Van (I fell asleep while watching Stalker... 🙈)
Amazing video Van, I hope you get what you need so that you never need to go into the room. Stay safe brother.
Just watched "Stalker" this evening. Wow! What a beautifully filmed and thoughtful story. I will watch it again...soon! And for those worried about spoilers...don't. The journey is rich and the ending has not been spoiled here at all.
Amazing video as always, this one in particular hit me like a thousand bricks! This is art, no doubt!
As always, you rock!
Ah man this is amazing. Thank you for your videos!!
Nicely done time lapse at the end. Your editing and story telling just keeps getting better and better.
It was just a nylon thread. You can see it attached to the legs. But the effect is the same. :)
Years ago my brother wrote a song called 'the room', in which I sang; "Enter now into the room
bolt the door behind you
lie beside me fragile
heart is glass
bound to break".
This and your ‘details’ video are some of your best work. I appreciate this a lot. Good shit van!
The best creator out there! Get my dose of inspiration to try and go out and make some art!
Love this Van! You're doing wonderful things with this channel and reminding folks like me that CZcams can be art and can have some SUBSTANCE. Love "Stalker" and now I'm going to have to track down the book you showed us. Also love the stop motion moving chair; a subtle and smart reference to the Stalker's daughter and her telekinesis. Really enjoying going through your catalogue of work.
That ending hit hard. Fantastic job.
Money seems to be a common theme in your videos of late.
I found "A Love Letter To Plywood" about a week before your channel's first upload. I binged all of the Avante Garde visual storytelling I could find on Tom Sach's channel. Just as I felt I had exhausted all of the work from a man named Van Neistat, a familiar last name, another by the name of Casey released a video about a new outlet. I have sense anticipated every weekly/bi-weekly release. You have been an indescribable breath of fresh air and an inspiration both in the visual arts department and in thinking and seeing life. Thank you for your dedication. I would hope that one day I may have the chance to be mentored by you in the ways you have mentored by Tom Sachs and he by his. Until then, I will pour over every typed word and held shot you give us, with the great desire to learn all that I can. Your channel is the room. Thank you, Stalker.
Love this, I cant wait to watch it now
That was loopy. Loved it!
masterful video thank you once again
this was incredible
Inspirational. Thanks.
Great as always
Van, thank you for a different perspective. I have been watching your creative output on youtube and it is profound and many times haunting. I find myself thinking about what you have shared and I am encouraged to take on my own creative endeavors, so again thank you.
Waiting for next video buddy 😎 👍🏽
Every time I watch your videos, it ties me closer to the zone.
thank you spirited man!
Yes, my weekly dose of creative introspection is finally here!
Brancusi, Tarkovski, two of my favourite artists. I saw Stalker when I was 19. I can't begin to express the impression it made on me. So many years later, I still think about it frequently.
stalker is definitely one of my favorite films and tarkovsky one of my favorite directors. Brilliant video van!
This was incredible.
Loved it.
I look forward to supporting on Patreon.
Great story!!! Bring that Patreon on I'm ready to support!
This movie is a masterpiece. If you are into Stalker and into metal I highly recommend listening to the album Pelagial, from a band called The Ocean. Another masterpiece based on the movie.
I loved that album when it came out, but haven't listened to it in a couple of years. Your message is the best excuse to revisit.
Blackgaze
Best episode yet!
Very nice work sir
That was amazing thank you
i love this episode.
the storyline I realy like and the editing is wonderful to watch
Very interesting! Nice video ✌️
Dude! You went deep. 👏

Great Inspiration.!!
Absolutely incredible.

these are some of the greatest videos on this website
Дорогой, Van. Спасибо за твои видео ))
This man is a master at storytelling!
Thank you Van. Thank you for leading me into The Zone more than once.
You are The Storyteller. Amazing.
This is a good video. Спасибо, Van
Amazing video. I recently bought the same book. Keep inspiring people!
I love this film! And nice homage with the moving chair!
Funny thing is, I pray for more money.
Thanks for your work. Love it.
Your channel is the only youtube channel i have recommended to my friend.
This is a good one. Super deep.
I love your work Van.
I am fascinated by this spirited man, amazing work as usual Van!
Chills, just give me chills.
Fantastic concept and dream. I have to see this movie now. I would love to hear more movie recommendations that have inspired the spirited man. It made think about something Tom Sachs has said a couple times in interviews...paraphrasing..."how horrible it would be to make a lot of money doing something you didn't like (hated)" Here's to finding your footing as a Stalker and the rewards of money (and joy) come because you've added value to the lives of others. I find great value here...Spirited Stalker. Thank you.
This is excellent.
dude what the fuck this was the longest and best patreon ad I've ever seen literally
Loved seeing those Japanese ¥ coins. Great score for this episode as well! Awesome story.
Fascinating link there at the very end. I found myself living in Shanghai about a decade ago. I was drawn to a cafe on the far end of town called “sculpting in time”. As i walked the sidewalk about to enter the sky that had been mostly blue all day was covered in thunder clouds. A bolt of lightning hit the electrical line directly across the street and for a flash everything was indigo and ultraviolet. Now I’ll have to watch that film.
Chapeau as per usual!
Phenomenal video!
Genius video
Profound. And Brancusi too. I was an art student and went on a pilgrimage to the Atelier Brancusi. Lovely stuff,
Awesome job van
Stalker was my first Tarkovsky film, a masterpiece!!!
Bro……… Awesome video👍🏻
that's a great video!
Everyone has a favorite episode. I thought I knew mine but I was wrong. This is my favorite episode.
I think this was the best CZcams video I’ve ever watched.
This is wonderful.
