- Bought a 2015 chevy Silverado 2500 they didn't know anything at all about this truck even down to how many miles it had on it. So we took a risk on because the price was right.

It’s hard for me to finally come around to money in the 21st century my first new truck cost me 16K my first used truck cost me 9K. New trucks are now 30K plus, on the cheap side, you purchased this for 7500 not running. I’ve looked for decent used trucks 20K for a 100,000 mile truck 5 years old I cannot lay that kind of cash out knowing that I’m buy a pile of depreciation you however are very smart and now you’ve got a decent truck for a price that is really great.
That is a hell of a deal for that truck no question, even if you had to buy a motor you'd still be getting a hell of a deal. Good job Man.

Very sweet deal, especially having a good engine to put in it. Maybe have the front seats reupholstered (due to the tear) and you'll be set. That would be sweet to own.

Did it even run long enough to get the oil pumped through the engine? You said it sat for a year or more, so all the oil drained out of everything in that time. I'd pull the oil pan and clean it out, put fresh oil in it, and run it for 30 seconds before calling the engine bad.
These lsd based truck engines well any vortec for that matter ticks bad when they sit from the lifters being dry

Weston, I Have a 2004 Chevy Avalanche 6 liter with 134,000 miles with the same problem and that 2015 Chevy truck you have, seam to be a trend. I was going through your old videos when I found this vid! I love what you do! PS I change my oil like clock work!

Modern trucks in general aren't strong, the 2018 RAM we have already has a ding in the side and the 2017 it replaced, the tail gate on it was messed up a bit from lumber. I'd motor flush that one before I pulled it though, just for video content.
Great channel bro. I have a 2011 Silverado 2500 6.0 2wd. I paid 500 cash from my former employer. I needs a front bumper and right side fender and the bed has. Big dent on the right side. Under 150,000 miles. I’m very proud of my truck.

@@madbear3512 Isuzu, who makes the Duramax has been building diesel engines for almost as long as Cummins has and is every bit as good as a Cummins. The biggest problem with the Cummins is that it comes wrapped in a piece of shit. Just look at truck sales. Ford and GM outsell Dodge 10 to 1!

looks like a oil fields truck. they are all white with that same black grill.
Judging by the 2 tags on the tailgate, I believe it belonged to CDM which is now USA Conpression. And the there is a bag in the bed of that truck that read "ariel", the manufacturer of gas compressors. So definitely oil field/natural gas.
Around here we have many to and no oil fields even close to this area.. We call them bull bars ... great for hitting deer... and cows.
Too good of shape, body, tailgate and drivers seat to be regular oil field. Probably a hot shot parts highway runner.

Ya I know I was Pretty shocked too I have run across some that have not been taken care of and they still run perfectly the 6.0L Vortec is a tank of a motor

@@WestenChamplin it is a GM problem Sir . Do your homework ! Yes abuse and lack of maintenance is never good but Gm is having major issues with the valvetrane ( LIFTERS ) and oil pumps .
It's been sitting it might be the top end isn't receiving oil yet you have to wait it out same thing happened to me when I bought a junkyard motor same noise too

Check the flywheel! I've seen 6 of those 6.0 2500hds have the flywheel explode on them. I thought it was a rod knock but it was the center of the flywheel blowing out

that is odd the 6.0 usually is problem free and immune to the typical gm v8 issues like the afm lifters beacause it doesnt have afm
Yes the 6.0 is, in my opinion, the best gas engine in a truck today its really surprising to me as well

6.0 liter had issue with the oil pump , I bought one with oil pressure low took it the dealer an they replaced the oil pump for 1100.00 works great 6 yrs now , this was a great deal
Dad had a dodge with a Cummins motor and it spent most of its life in the shop till dad traded it in on a new ford truck. He has had it for 3 years now and now its got a check engine light on it. I told him to buy Chevy but he did not care about my opinion now he is looking to trade it in now. I have a 1995 Chevy and it still runs strong. Yes it has its days and could use some new parts but It gets me were I need to go. I guess everyone has their own favorite kind of trucks. I will always back Chevy because I love them.

That doesn't sound like bottom end knock..... not sure what exactly though - maybe valve train, timing chain, or something rubbing. Usually bottom end is more of a slower thump at idle. That noise was too fast.... almost like a baseball card in a bicycle spoke sound. Curious what you find out.

Sounds more like a lifter issue, run it awhile and it might pump back up
Bajaheat not to argue, but the engine oil being cold is the best chance of getting a lifter to prime back up. That engine sounded like it was a lifter failure, but it being a DOD and VVT engine, more than likely one of those control solenoids failed and caused the problem. Their best bet to get it up and running is to remove all the lifters and the valley cover, then replace them with stock LS3/7 lifters and drill/tap and plug off the DOD/VVT passages under the valley cover.
Ed H I thought the 6.0s in the heavy duty’s didn’t have dod or vvt
I bought a 2006 Dodge Dakota that wasn't running for 2 years, for $1.00 ...got it home...had it running two days later...broken wire going to the computer for ASDL relay was the issue. Still drive the truck.
U got hell of deal in my opinion be honest that first 6 liter I heard knocking like that better yet it was hammering lol
Had same noise happen on a cop car I bought. Just as fast and car still drove, didn’t shake or anything Found out I’d bent a connecting rod and it was the piston hitting against the crankshaft

@Western Champlin Its a lifter, my neighbours six liter lost lifer #2 at 50k miles 2016. Check the lifters the 6.0L, 5.3L, 6.2L all have lifter problems
Looks like it was used by an instrument technician based on the tubing and valves in the back.
Damn nice truck sucks to see that 6.0 is down good motor I have one and our plow truck has one ,haven’t a single problem with them (knock on wood)
My vortec has had a lifter tap since a year old and always clears out when it warms up, and still runs hard...
This looks like my truck LOL let me check and make sure my truck is still in the drive way it's a good truck i used to have a duramax with the Alison transmission that truck had a lot of problems it was in the shop more than it was on the road i went and bought the same truck but with the gas 5.0 engine i love it no issues yet but only time will tell

@@trentdawg2832 No not a flex plate ! Mike F is the closest . The 5.3 and 6.0 have lifter issues . One bank of lifters will collapse . Unfortunately while under warranty GM only will change one side at a time . Completely stupid on their part . Once the lifters collapse the impact starts sending metal through the engine so best not to run the engine . This is similar to the Ford 5.4 issues with narrowed oil galleries . The 6.0 also has an issue with the oil pump . I have only heard of a few but the oil pump will cavitate and essentially loose its prime inevitably seizing the engine . Just happened to a friend of mine in Alberta Canada on his 2016 GMC . Fortunately he was under warranty . It is truly sad with all the engineering and modifications that have been done to the LS family of engines that GM hasn't learned a thing or two .
I broke a flexplate and crashed the pump in the trans, it sounded like that

just drain the oil and run the thickest oil u can find and it might make the knock quieter

Guessing before start up...if it’s one of the multi- cylinder displacement engines....I bet the it needs cam and lifters...the lifters wear the lobes on the cams or sometimes just the lifters
