Lady Dynamite is AMAZING. It is the most incredible portrayal of what it's like to interact with the world when you have mental illness. But most of all it's just so fucking funny. Can't wait for season two.

Maria's my absolute favorite. I've been a fan since I saw her first Comedy Central special years ago. I'm super happy to see her getting more recognition over the past few years.

I love in particular how Colbert just lets her run. It reminds me of why Carson and Letterman before Colbert were the true masters of hosted comics: bring 'em on, let 'em run. I really like the depth in late night comedy and variety talk shows in this era, but there's always one King (or Queen - that'll come one day), and Colbert has assumed the mantle. This is masterful guest management.

I think what people like about her is that it's not a "routine," but genuine.

Maria Bamford is one of the most interesting people with the most interesting comedy I've ever seen. She's both compulsive and weird and high strung and completely self aware in a way that it doesn't seem like someone like that would be. It's super unique.

That's not quite it. Her brain cuts a wide swath thru the spectrum, but bipolar isn't the same as personality disorder. She knows who she is, she's fully aware of how it comes across, and she's past the years of freaking out in despair over not being able to do anything about it.

She goes out there and keeps putting out great material, her humor is honest and refreshing, I wouldn't categorize as self-bashing as a lot of insecure comedians do, she is so open and brings humor to her life, her experiences and her struggles.

Lady Dynamite, any of the comedy specials from her parents living room, her appearances on John Oliver's New York Comedy Show or whatever it was called back then, his standup show he hosted, The Maria Bamford show (20 part series on youtube), her voices in Adventure Time or Pemma and other characters in The Legend of Korra or as Screech in CatDog, Maria Bamford is truly a blessing. I agree with Stephen that she is truly my favorite comedian.
I love what she said about seeing why someone enjoys something, and seeing how (I) could enjoy it too. I'm gonna try to employ this in my relationship. :)
I like Maria, I think she has an original, kinda extreme, and dedicated voice in comedy. She's not my favorite, but... this interview was amazing. Colbert has so much respect for her, he just got out of the way and let her go. Great to see!
