The funny thing about sliced bread, is the advertising slogan for it was "The Greatest Invention Since The Wheel." So originally people were just being ironic by saying "The Greatest Invention since Sliced Bread" but ages passed and much has been forgotten.

San Diego's Belmont Park wooden roller coaster, the Giant Dipper, is still functioning and is my favorite to this day. It was built in 1925, but Coney Island is fine, too ;)

Actually I believe The Thunderbolt at Kennywood Park in Pa is the oldest working coaster (opened in 24, Cyclone in 27)
