    Hi
Mistakes were made... Mistakes were corrected...
Bear in mind that, before you watch this video...
    😊
Right, VW Passat, came to me with a very rough idling when cold, and randomly throwing an engine light on...
On a scan, P0171, the engine was running lean, could also see that on the live data...
After quite a bit of wrong turns, and head scratching, found the issue!
And probably, nothing that you would imagine it could be the culprit...
Follow me on this video to find out what was the problem and how to resolve it.

I wish I had seen this video a year ago Luis, my other half has an Audi 1.8 tfsi with exactly the same problem, underside is covered in oil, runs/ idles like a bag of s-it, it has had everything replaced and I mean everything! The car has been mothballed for the last year because I just had given up on trying to fix it myself, I let a friend try to fix it who also has given up, but I will do a smoke test on it and I think I will find the same problem. This car is like a bad dog; it has a pee wherever I leave it! lol. Thanks for the video Luis, you are the maestro!

While I was watching the test, I thought that 2 bar was too much for the test and that the seal popped out. But it was proven that he was still bad, so congratulations on a good job. 👌👌

At 36 minutes I paused the video to write this. Imagine if this was a 4 motion and you were going to do this job😤😤. ( edit ) That was a nice diagnose and it might be an eye opener for people that don't understand lean and rich codes or vacuum and lack of it. Great video Luis and big surprise that the client himself was clever enough to suggest a clutch change and not asking you to clean it with some brake cleaner🤣🤣.

Hi Luis, I did think for a minute 'That smoke is coming out the bolt holes' but you did say that was a bit of fun lol, but it was quite clear that oil was pouring out the seal from all the oil in the bell housing and all around the back face of the engine, great call, love the videos, I've learned a a great deal from the videos you've done over the years many Thanks..

Hi Louis! Nice video as always. A little tip I've learn from the US guys (they mostly work on petrol engines), whenever you have a hard time finding the stft or ltft or lambda etc. go to EOBD. The pids are always in the same place no matter the engine and they make your diagnostic easier. The VAG channel system is not very intuitive if you don't work them everyday. Cheers!

nicely done there could the old pcv valve caused the crankshaft seal to go if the turbo pressure was getting past and into crankcase a correct diagnose is worth every penny and proving it with the repair bet the owner was very happy if i saw that clutch plate i would have refused to refit it it was about to fail and you know who would get the blame ps good morning Luis
