Excellent! No band playing this style of music is better than Tuba Skinny! Just perfect.
Ant time things get depresssing I just listen to these guys and the world is ok again. They are really first-rate.
🇬🇧A really well thought out programme played meticulously by every member of the band! I tell you these jazz musicians are the very best in the business! I’m a retired double bass player by the way and 83 years old so I know what I am talking about! I can’t think of enough words to describe just how awesome this band is! I’ve lay on my bed alone and listened carefully to every note played! I must say again these guys are the best! ❤️👍
Pero falta Erika
Couldn't agree more Bill. IMHO, Tuba Skinny will be remembered as the top Jazz
Band of the 21st Century, with no less awe & wonder as we Honor & Remember
Satch with.
I am also 83 and played G Banjo and entirely agree , the best ever band of their type, l do hope they continue to keep together for ever
I've been listening to them too and though I'm not able to be analytical I think I have not heard better. And what a team - the bulk of them have been together for so long they must know each others thoughts. Long may it continue! Just wished they'd toured here or advertised France - easily reached and great venues.
Bill just discovered Skinny Tuba last 2 months in lockup of our care facility. Also 88 years young and have played my gut bucket bass with our church up-tempo gospel brass band. Love Ericka on her drum and vocals. We miss her and hope she can return soon. Shaye, go girl ! Love the sound :)
I just found out they are playing in Washington DC in May. I am flying from Vancouver to take in the show, as my daughter lives there. I have been dying to see them live.
Beautiful and exiting composition of Shaye Cohn
How about that! Have you ever heard any New Orleans sound with this much talent! There should be a resounding explosion of applause for Tuba Skinny! 5 STARS!
Well said, I totally agree
Tuba Skinny doing their thing! So good
Great band. And still use the washboard. 87 yr old fan
Who on Earth can dislike Tuba Skinny?
people who dislike must have a hearing disorder .....
maybe Fat Tuba??
New Orleans jazz doesn't get much better than this.
Try adding Erika Lewis.
It does not get any better, they are the best ever
Shaye Cohn is so subtle directing the band. I'll bet she's a taskmaster in rehearsal. She's the BOSS of her cornet, too!
I grew up in Chicago, and I have been a fan of jazz since my teens. During my 90 years, I have enjoyed a number of jazz greats, including, of course, Satch. Today, my best music moments are spent listening to Tuba Skinny, who I definitely rank among the jazz greats that I have enjoyed.
I would like to be the trumphet and be played all day without stoping by this wonderful and beautiful lady.
It’s a cornet not a trumpet
Shaye beatifull your band..i love you..
I love the music, but I am deeply in love with the lady who plays the trumpet.
Мне 66, но Шей мне тоже очень нравится... Она вся светится....
TUBA SKINNY...FOREVER...!!! 👏🎶📽️🖋️📖🖌️🎨🎺
Excellent show. Shaye and the boys did Satchmo proud! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐😊👍
1.10 Savoy Blues (Kid Ory and Sid Robin, 1925)
5.31 Them Things Got Me (by Clarence Williams and Mike Jackson. Recorded by the Clarence Williams Jazz Kings, 1929)
10.49 Alligator Crawl (Fats Waller, 1927. Also on Tuba Skinny's CD 'Pyramid Strut')
13.55 Some Kind-a-Shake (Shaye Cohn, 2018. Also on their 2019 CD 'Some Kind-a-Shake')
17.41 Fireworks (Clarence Williams and Spencer Williams, 1928. Recorded by The Original Memphis Five and by Louis Armstrong's Hot Five; also on Tuba Skinny's 2018 CD 'Nigel's Dream')
21.13 Any Old Time (Jimmie Rodgers, 1929. Also on Tuba Skinny's 2018 CD 'Nigel's Dream')
25.56 Sugar Foot Strut (Billy Pierce, Henry Myers & Charles M. Schwab, 1927)
29.49 Oh Red (Recorded 1936 by The Harlem Hamfats & later by Blind Boy Fuller as 'New Oh Red'. Curious 11½- bar tune [Bar 10 has only two beats!]. It's also on Tuba Skinny's 2018 CD 'Nigel's Dream')
34.06 Keyhole Blues (Wesley 'Kid'. Wilson, 1927. Made famous by the Armstrong Hot Seven 1927 recording)
37.32 Too Much Competition (Alden Bunn, 1952; standard 12-bar blues)
42.05 Oriental Strut (Johnny St. Cyr, 1926. Also on their CD 'Owl Call Blues')
45.44 Proximity Effect (Craig Flory, 2020)
i wonder if 'Some Kind-a-Shake' is a deliberate play on words - 'Shaye-ke' !
Thanks Pops!
Thanks, Pops! You are always helpful.
Didáctico y precisó como siempre Gracias Pops!! (La Biblia del jazz)
Argentina en el fin del mundo chauuu
Merci beaucoup, Pops.
Thanks a lot, Pops. I'm now retrieving the sound from the video and 'cutting' the songs into individual tracks. My ears of French people , poor in English, sometimes make it very difficult for me to understand the presentations made by Robin (I understand better the ones made by Shaye).
This band never disappoints well played guys..
...
Wow. When you talk about a band being tight, crikey these are so tight they could be glued, impeccable timing, superb. On the Erika subject, Erika has been part of TS from the virtual beginning. Her voice is amazing, word clarity and facial expression is the best. Yes TS are superb as an instrumental band but for me TS are 9 including the brilliant Erika.
This program should be its own CD. There isn't a weak (relatively speaking) number on it.
Tuba Skinny are my favorite band at all. I never get tired listen to them.
Pero falta Erika
i do..
this is beautifully engineered sound, dozens of mics in a proper studio setting...but if you want the real tuba skinny you have to be on the street in New Orleans with folks walking around, some dancing, and dogs just hanging around...but also know that in the hearts and minds of these musicians are the collected years of New Orleans musics...this is as real as it gets...god love em
lots of mikes but far too rhythm section heavy
Well said. I travel from NH just to hear TS.
@@Ultramaximiser Totally disagree. I think the bass is just right for once (it's always recorded way under what you hear in performance), and this is the best that Todd has ever played.
You have to agree and the fact that they have stuck together so long is a testimony to their bond. Great to watch a group grow like this one - just hope that they are able to stick to their roots on the street in New Orleans.
@@johnbrewster5520 you make a good point. I don't think any of them are making much money this way. They have stuck together for so long because they love the music and appreciate each other. God love 'em!
Tuba Skinny makes me sooooooooooooooooooooooooo HAPPY !!!!! so miss not being able to see them this year !
Brilliant as always. I hope those of you who can will consider making a donation; both for the sake of the members of the band, and to make sure the World does not lose this treasure.
Good notion
Very good set!
13:49 to 17:20, Some Kind of Shake by Shaye Cohn definitely has a timeless sound!
Very good!
Thanks, Tuba Skinny, for your gift to America right when we need it most. You make me believe we're going to make it!
TS is a gift to the world.
We are not going to make it but let's enjoyTS while we can.
This is My cloud 9
Do you think these guys know just how great they are? All thanks to the leader Shaye the Cornet player!
Perfect in every detail! Awesome!
@@behjoh Those are guitars, (one is a resonator and the other appears to be made of metal) not dobros. But yeah, that was annoying how the camera was on the wrong player.
Shame went Juliard so no doubt she picked few hints along the way. But the whole band is brilliant. I have been listening to them for years and years.
Great Programme is You Tube. Great work!
I dont know how they do it! Whether Perfectly Mic'ed up and Engineered like Here, at a festival, in a Cafe, in some beach town or casino France or just Busking on Royal Street in NO to a crowd or just one person Tuba Skinny always sounds Great! Shout out to Shay Coen for running such a tight ship, and the talent and the obvious passion for early jazz and blues shared by all the the artists in the band! Shout out to lovley but absent Vocalist and Base Drummer Erika!
I love this band, they not only play this music, they live it...great.. all are excellent!
I've only just found Tuba Skinny on-line and have become a complete fan. Fantastic bunch of musicians at there very best. I'm now 80 and a retired banjo player who played in London from the 50's with a band called The Jimmy Lougher Jazzmen. I'd love to see them live. Thanks a bunch !!
Yes indeed it's my third week of Tuba Skinny on U Ain't heard a bad tune in hours of listening Luv Em!!!
There are 50 dislikes that don't agree with you. What a waste. Continue to sit back an enjoy.
I was lucky to see and hear Satchmo when he came to Australia in I think 1967 and you guys are the very best tribute to him and all those other great musicians far too numerous to mention. I make sure that all my grandchildren are exposed to plenty of your performances.
Shaye, Louis in this moment is happy listening you perfomance with tormpet.. Saludos a la banda.. wonderfull..
Wonderful band. Greetings from Holland.
Thanks for the good acoustics, thanks for the good work of the operator. My very, very favorite musicians are Tuba Skinny! After playing them very professionally, you cannot listen to any other traditional jazz musicians. There is a lot of love in their game. They just revel in traditional American jazz. My heart from Russia is with them!
And mine from the UK
А я из Хакасии, это направо от Москвы, не доезжая до Аляски...У нас очень любят Туба Скини. Я психиатр. Предложил нашему главному врачу пригласить Туба Скини к нам на День медика.😂
The best band in the world. Makes me dance always
What a pity there wasn’t a live audience to witness this magnificent set! Lets be grateful for the beautiful video with truly exceptional recorded sound . They have never sounded better.
ankle and shoulder twitchin...
sweet notes too
🇬🇧Timing is perfect 👌 in every number! How these guys remember all the tunes is amazing! 👏👏👏
.......a "Perfect Storm" of talent!!!
I just love you and your wonderfull musik!
Keep on.
Gunnar.
Real music, the like of which the world of 'pop' can never, ever produce. Ed sheeran, eat your heart out, you will NEVER have talent like this !
Absolutely adore listening to this band! Bloody fantastic!
The clarinet player is just fantastic!
The band continues to sculpt these little musical monuments to my and everyone's satisfaction. Congratulations to Shaye Cohn and "accomplices". Particularly interesting this "Tuba Skinny performs at Seven Days of Satch!".
In this corner of Europe, to the west, there is a small, charming country, called Portugal, that would be very happy with your visit. Think about it!
This band is Continually Excellent ,amazing.. thank you all. "Stay safe "
Superb recording...TS has never sounded better!! Sure do miss dear Erika though. Wish her & family all the best!
sorry I may be late off the mark, but I love skinny tuba and I'm a long way from there, being in the original Acadian home of Nova Scotia. However, where is Erika! I miss her. Tell me more
@@rogergreen4275 Yes me too.. Where is Erica? ⚘
Jmkllookl
Yes! and Yes! But I don't understand the applause for Erika. I think they sound better without her. Her musically and voice and stile aren't up to the extremely high mark set by the rest of them. She is ok but they are marvelous!
@@jimhogue5544 While I really like Erika’s “earthiness” and her “bluesy” style, I understand what you mean when you say you think they sound better without her. I really prefer instrumentals over vocals-and the players all really shine as soloists!! By the way, I believe I read somewhere that Erica had gotten married.
Shaye is absoloutly amazingly talented! So is the whole band! Really hope Erika will be back!
Super performance Tuba Skinny !And a super recording sound. The timing of this band and the quality of the musicians is amazing.Since i met TS on youtube in 2017 july for the 1st time, i am a big fan.Eventhough faraway (The Netherlands/Europe), im so happy that we can watch these performances on youtube nowadays.Stay safe all, and lets hope we meet again in the near future somewhere in The Netherlands !Thanks for the music and best regards.
They were at the Breda Jazz Festival in 2018. Did you miss them?
@@bobmenorca1 hi Bob, i was there at the Breda Jazzfestval, 11th may2018.But i hope to see them again in good times again.Thks for yr mssge Bob, and if u can give my best regards to all Tuba Skinny members.Take care , Andre Klippel, The Netherlands
It really is a privilege to be able to hear and watch these truly great musicians.
If you ever watch Shaye and her movements she is one ball of rhythm. It so deeply embedded in mind and body.
goodoleusa perhaps you have noticed she has a distinctive way of keeping time, shooting a foot forward and back with the beat. She usually does that with her right, but she can do it with the left. And she will tip her head left and right at times. None of that is planned, and she probably isn't even aware of what she's doing. I think she's just deep in the music, really feeling it.
What a talented musician she is - and beautiful too.
@@davidbrown8763 Hear hear!
Surely this will throw the group into world wide acclaim ! Lets hope they keep their hats ON and On and On and ON. Awsom! Can it get any better than this?
Some of the best of America. I needed this. Vote in November.
How good can Tuba Skinny be? This video gave me goosebumps...😎 🤠
A dry studio-quality audio, as befits this superb band. Best played through big speakers to get that bass out. Utterly brilliant and tight playing as always, and new tunes every time I hear them. Just magic. Gonna play this at Christmas for my folks ! Huge thanks for the upload.
The sound was the best ever. The vocals were really great. Any old time was right on.
Any old time is one of my favorite s
Love this band!, this is my favorite concert!
Splendid!! Please come to the UK when all this madness is over.
you bring a great feeling in your music which is much needed in these trying times, please continue, you lift us out of this gloom and give us all a wonderful lift-thank you
Jeez but she's gorgeous. Shaye, music be the food of love.
Love to listen to greg sing. He has that old time style nailed down. Keep singing from the heart.
Agreed; well said.
Great performance by Greg on this, one of his best I reckon.
@@ianbaird9252 Yes; agreed Ian. He somehow 'gets inside' a song and brings to it his own emotional sincerity, which I believe is an ability you either have or haven't. He sometimes alters the melodic line to suit where he's going, occasionally sings behind or ahead of the beat (his timing is captivating) and enunciates in a distinct style, dropping consonants or blending the close of a phrase while segueing into the next one. I could see him in a solo show with his favorite songlist; he has a long career ahead of him.
WOW. This one really jumps.. And listen to thtt incredible TUBA.
It's a Sousaphone, and still great!
@@dennisdurzel5899 Good. This is Todd at his very best. Listen to the ensemble in the last piece.
The greatest real music of this generation!! I dance all night in my little kitchen... guaranteed happy!💗
I think this is the RIGHT setup for this group. Mic'd properly. Right members. No bass drum. No female singer. Just the male singer sometimes. Washboard man a must have. Perfect.
Pardon me for disagreeing. I think Erika is essential. Just compare the songs that Erika sings when she is there and when she isn't. Also, a bit of male/female duetting is necessary with some of those songs. Shaye sings OK, but she's already got too much to do during a performance.
@@BudgieJane I've never seen a recording with Shaye singing. Here are two songs I absolutely love Erika in: czcams.com/video/DmIrEr6MsxU/video.html czcams.com/video/hTainjvzeoI/video.html
My comment was a cup of tea moment and not sure I would even write this now.
@@aspencrest For Shaye singing, look for "When they ring them golden bells". There's also one with her singing "Freight Train" with Greg, at czcams.com/video/rceYiDTOYsM/video.html
Smile, all y'all! This is very fun music. Great playing.
Great as usual. I used to miss N.O. music but not anymore.Moved away 50 years ago. T.S. is the best, love you Shaye
Glad to see TS is alive and well and better than ever. So enjoyable
After listening to each of the songs in this series I am so terriibly proud of this marvelous group of musicians. .ON EVERY TUNE HERE TYHEY PLAYED RIGHT AT THE TOP OF THEIR GAME.. AND I’[VE NEVER HEARD TODD’S TUBA SO CEAR AND STRONG. Just a magnificent performance. Tuba Skinny is certainly a band for the ages. HOORAY FOR NEW ORLEANS ANd AMERICA..
Wallace Harper Notice the brown microphone wire going into the bowl of the Tuba
Wow what a treat, Tuba Skinny thanks for indulging our ear and soul, with the prof set up, good acoustic and proper mixing your flawless tunes are really shining bright, this is where you're belong.
Tuba Skinny: Your commitment to doing it right is so heartwarming. You always sound so damn good. More power to all of you. Much love is being thrown at you all the way from OZ, Kansas. Vini Demon
The sparks really fly when this superb band strikes up !
Lots of us applauding at home. Always a treat to hear TS! Bravo!
My goodness, how these musicians just keep improving and improving. Everything is perfect. I really like how the bass has mastered the John Kirby sound. And when Robin gets that back beat going, it just drives things into glory. They're all soooo good at this. I'm stopping now, lest I become boring.
Wonderful! They are always fantastic!!!
7 days of heaven from Tuba Skinny 😁👌👍👌👍👌👍👌👍👌👍😉😎
This is a simply fantastic performance!!! 😁
Great Band, beatifull Shaye, with yours , pandemian is in the hell, New Orleans Music, is here.. seems heavens, saludos desde Chile octava región --
There's a lot of LOVE IN THERE! What A FABULOUS SEAMLESS GROOVE IN EVERYTHING THEY PLAY! EVEN THE STOP TIME HICCUP IN 'OH RED!' DAMN! SO MUCH FUN TO LISTEN TO! L'AISSEZ BON TEMPS ROULEZ!!
Great as always! Thanks for making us smile (and cry a little) in these crazy times. From UK.... Retired brass band tuba player... If only the world was run by musicians we wouldn't have half of the problems.
Fred Little, ha ha, like the Dorsey brothers, Sinatra, Coxon Dodds, Buddy Rich, Van Morrison, Elvis, The Killer, Marc Bolan, Bobby Womack, Larry Williams, Little Willie John, Guitar Slim, Wicked Pickett, and that's just for starters. It'd be mayhem, man.
I forgot Chuck.
And Ike.
Whole bunch of talent right here. love 'em...
Hadn't heard Alligator Crawl before. Nice piece.
Always a pleasure. Skinnies forever 😍
Just love Tuba skinny!
This makes you happy!👍😃
I would really like to listen to this great band live in New Orleans. Zdeněk Czech Republic
"Them things got me" TS opened their sunday night set at Andernos last year, and the night just got better and better. Beautiful warm night, appreciative big crowd. A night I will not forget for a long time
Yep agree the best current sound ,thanks to you all. Cheers from OZ
I'll be glad when this damn virus crap is over so I can come see them live in N.O. !!!!!
This is one of their best performances. They are all excellent!
Great as always, maybe a little better sonic quality because of the setting. Hope Erika is ok.
¡El blues del cerrojo! Pure unadulterated Jazz, no fakery whatsoever!
Another fantastic set from one of the most amazing outfits around today. Real old fashioned jazz played from the heart by these talented musicians. Thanks one and all.
Fantastic as usual!!!
Superb performance from beginning to end and beautifully recorded! Loved it: my thanks to all concerned.
Tuba Skinny musicians Shaye Cohn - cornet Craig Flory - clarinet Barnabus Jones - trombone Jason Lawrence - guitar Max Bien-Kahn - banjo Greg Sherman - guitar, vocals Robin Rapuzzi - washboard Todd Burdick - sousaphone! With loving regards to Erika Lewis and her young son, bass drum, and top vocalist! The best New Orleans Band EVER!!!!
I believe that’s Jason Lawrence on banjo, and Max Bien-Kahn on resonator guitar.
Love them all!! Great sound from the guitar-banjo! NH
Faantastic!!!!!! Superb talents. Beautifully harmonious. The joy of the music radiates. Thanks to all the sponsors for bringing this to us.
On my 'bucket list' to come over from the UK and experience this 'in the flesh', can listen to this 24/7, always puts a spring into my 67yr old step and a smile on my face. Keeps safe all.... :-)
Tuba Skinny, LO MÁXIMO 30/8/20
Thanks for this very fine recording of The Best Band playing today! I Love these guys. T.S. Your playing superbly here. Thank you.
Pleaseee, come to Brazil!!!
I already know I’m going to like this...
I'll see your "like this..." and raise you a "love this..." (just joking around) :)
