    Thank you! Was double checking if I needed to send this as an fbx file, cause I was having some sizing/texture issues with just objs!

    How did you get the UV and Normals files? We’re they automatically created during the Maya FBX export? Did you export them separately? None of this is covered, but I’d love to know. Thanks!

    • @ModelingWithAnimation
      @ModelingWithAnimation  Před rokem

      The UV and Normal map files are separate from the FBX export. For the video I already had both of these files set and ready to go so I just dragged them in. Most of the time the fbx export works well for the geometry, but sometimes the material does not transfer over from program to program. This is why I had to add the textures to the material. Usually if you are doing this process, you will already have the textures and you would just have to import it into Unreal Engine. Hopefully this helps!

    • @ModelingWithAnimation

      @@omnibus01 When I say finalize the smoothing I mean committing the smoothing face. When you export an item it does not transfer the maya modifications so everything that is exported has to be permanent.

    Should i exoport a Mesh from Maya to Unreal engine with soften Edges or with Harden Edges?

    • @ModelingWithAnimation
      @ModelingWithAnimation  Před rokem

      I would say it depends on what you want. If you want it to not show the edge loops, then do soften and if you want them to show do harden.

    Hi, is that possible to import in UE with texture set in maya?

    • @ModelingWithAnimation
      @ModelingWithAnimation  Před 2 lety

      If you want to do that it depends. If the material is straight from maya like a ai standard material you would have to extract it from maya. If the material is a pbr material you can just use it in unreal.

    • @rain-2779
      @rain-2779 Před 2 lety

       @Modeling With Animation Oh, I always re-set texture in UE but trying to export Fbx with the material. Btw, do you think it's better to combine all components into one mesh model, or set them as impendent objects? because when i combine them together, it's kind of hard to set material in UE

    • @ModelingWithAnimation
      @ModelingWithAnimation  Před 2 lety +1

      @@rain-2779 It depends if you need to combine the model. If you are animating the model no, but if you aren't it is a good idea to combine it. If it is a problem setting the material you probably need to adjust the UV map for the object

    • @rain-2779
      @rain-2779 Před 2 lety

      @@ModelingWithAnimation Thanks! So, for the UV map, do you set in Maya before export, or it doesn't really matter.

    This is for small projects what if we have a huge models..like hut,car ,treee,character..if we keep importing and adding materials it will take hours

    • @ModelingWithAnimation

      I have never had that problem before. It could just be a computer-to-computer thing. This video's purpose is it show someone how to do this quick and fast. I am sure there are other ways of doing this, but the method I showed works the best for what I have done with unreal.

    Is there no way to preserve the shaders of a model you import? I've been trying this to no avail -- despite the fact that one other tutor managed to accomplish this. If you import a complex scene with dozens of shaders, it would be great to be able to bring them all right into Unreal -- or, save the texturing stage for Unreal and leave Maya / Arnold / Redshift / V-Ray out of it.
    Could my problems be due to the fact that I'm using Maya 2022 (.FBX 2020) and UE 4.26?
    Thanks.

    • @ModelingWithAnimation
      @ModelingWithAnimation  Před 3 lety

      I don't think the software you are using is the problem. If you want you could just import the model into unreal without any shaders/materials and do that process in unreal. The other solution would to use pbr textures if you are not already. The problem with pbr sometimes is if you use application based edits to the pbr that the game engine doesn't recognize which could cause issues of it not being plugged in when you import it.
