  • I found an old bird lure while organizing some tackle that I had to give a try. I had been seeing some baby ducks and bird nests all around the lake's edge so I decided to get out one afternoon and see if big bass actually eat birds. I was skeptical at first given the lure is at least 20 years old but it turns out it still gets bit!

Adam, your persistence paid off! That was a lot of cast even after editing. Way to hang in there!

Top water is fun but you have to be careful when you do get a strike , you don't set the hook too soon which is the hardest part to control. I try to wait until I feel the fish before setting the hook but that's easier said than done, if you jerk it too soon you could be wearing that bait , and I have when I was 11 years old I did exactly that and managed to hook myself in my ear bleed like a pig until I could find someone to take it out. lol

Oh definitely! I seem to miss the first bite or two from just being excited. Ouch! I have hit myself a few times for sure also

@@fluentfishing -- I'm a saltwater guy trying to learn the ways of you freshwater bass fishermen and this video was a big help!
Would love it if you made a simple, short video describing all the popular bass rigs.
A few I know off the top of my head: 1) Texas rig, 2) Ned rig, 3) Alabama rig, 4) Whacky rig, and 5) Carolina rig when appropriate. Would love to see and hear about the others, especially that one rig with two small lures swimming around each other like a school. Fluke rig?

@@jake9705 Thats a rad idea I can definitely do something like that. Ya the double fluke rig aka donkey rig. It can be deadly this time of year
