Usually you can undo and redo in medibang using the volume keys on your device. I discovered it years ago when I was drawing on my phone and listening to music at the same time.
And the solution to the eraser problem mentioned in the video is to choose any brush that you want to use as an eraser then select the empty square beside the 2 color squares on the top and then erase as you please :)

I was using MediBang on an iPhone and the problems are ten times worst since the screen is smaller. It feels like as if you’re were drawing by pixels and you fill them in when you draw. It doesn’t even give you the colour wheel so the colour always looks really weird as well. And also yes the lasso tool really sucks compare other apps.... I don’t really recommend it if you are drawing on an iPhone like me.

To be honest with you, I’ve seen someone draw excellent art in MS paint and the Samsung notes app. Which proves that it doesn’t matter what you use to draw on, it’s just the skill you have and the knowledge you have around the software. Just because the good professionals use a certain art software, doesn’t mean your art skills will immediately be the same as theirs. You can still draw excellent art in a low budget software. Just to let you artists know...

I really like how you "review" drawing apps because it just makes it easier to determine what app would work the best and it shows the pros and cons and how much of an effect they have when drawing. No matter how many times I've used medibang paint I've never been able to use it, it didn't have any help popups like ibis paint x so I didn't even know you could get other brushes I only found out now, I never could work out the selection tool and it was just overall hard to use. I never had the color problem that you have, I think in the top left corner of the color thing there's three little lines that take it away but I can't remember. I think I spent more time in the settings then actually drawing. Also there's an another pro of medibang paint that I don't think a lot of drawing apps have, I know ibis paint x doesn't have it and it is when your drawing doesn't save properly or something happens which makes you have to completely reopen the app it has a backup of your drawing but it doesn't backup frequently but I think you can change that in the settings.

    • @ergojosh

    • @Indigo_Lemon
      @Indigo_Lemon Před 4 lety +2

@@ergojosh Yeah! I found it really helpful because I would often exit out of it without saving. I've never really "gotten used to" medibang paint, it's kinda difficult to navigate and there is a lot of other things that you can use but aren't in the toolbars and you have to add them from setting, I found the best way to use the app is to mess around with the settings but still everyone's not going to have the same experience with the same drawing apps. I also don't think medibang paint has an filters/effects like ibis paint x which are helpful when creating backgrounds ect and I don't think I've ever seen a tutorial from the actual makers of medibang paint but ibis paint does. But I do think both apps have their pros and cons and it depends on what you prefer. If I messed around with medibang paint more I would probably know more about it but I've spent most of my time drawing digitally on ibis paint x. Sorry this is so long but I find the comparison of different drawing apps so interesting and I find the experiences from different people interesting. It's really nice to know your viewpoint on different drawing apps! Loved the vid! What other art app art you considering testing out/"reviewing" next?

For some reason I feel like there are far more options that allow me control over the piece I'm working on. Plus being able to have way more than 100 layers is a plus. Tend to duplicate layers just incase I go over beyond the redo threshold.

I’ve used MediBang in both iPad and Desktop, and I must say I don’t like the iPad version of it. I don’t know why, but it just feels so confusing and difficult, I couldn’t understand it. I’m guessing it was just me, but my artworks there never saved. I remember creating a piece that took me for three hours, and closed the app for a while, and it didn’t save my work. At first, I thought it was just because the app crashed, but this continued for the rest of my works.
Honestly, I’d prefer iBis Painf X than MediBang for iPad. The only issue I had with iBis was the stabilizer. Other than that, it was fine. But Procreate is still a win.

Yo! I used Medibang always, for Windows, and it's way better than any of its mobile versions. Completely free, and as other comment I read, it has only one ad when you just open it, and is even from Medibang itself, so nothing to worry about.
I don't remember if the Android version also has those ads you had, I think not, but I haven't used that version in a while.

You made a 2 second mention at the end of the vid about the real strength of MB, which is the comic book work. You’re mostly right about its downsides, although as with anything, a lot of that goes away with extended use/practice.
My experience was the reverse of yours. I started w MB then moved to procreate. I still use MB quite a bit, for what it is good at, but procreate is by far the superior app.
U also mentioned that the review may have been more relevant if it was constrained by older gen iPads. That is really key. I’m on an iPad Air 2, so no Apple Pencil, no pressure sensitivity, no pen buttons, less ram, etc. From that perspective, MB was a great free starter app, and the jump to superior apps was not as crucial. That said, procreate STILL was a great upgrade, even without a newer gen pad+pencil.
    Great video. Thanks.

I found that MediBang was more tailored to manga or comics creation, as it has many tools in that regard. Plus it has better cross platform integration (vs. Procreate only work on IPad or Mac). I usually do my manga names on my Android phone, then draft it up on my IPad, then finalize the work on PC.

The interface is better suited for computers i tried it on my android smartphone and its harder to use in the computer version you can rearrange, change the size and close windows you don't want, you can make custom brushes its way more customizable.
This is a problem i see with many cross platform apps and sites they focus on either smart device or computer use and neglect the other by locking features or not thinking about the usability.

I have been using Medibang on my desktop for around 4 years now , i used to use SAI but I found medibang 's features more attractive .
Also you can easily make your own brushes in medibang. The only drawback is that I couldn't find a similar "gradient " type brush like the watercolor brush in sai ( the one in medibang only blends ) but I made one which is the closest possible i could get .
Also medibang manga / comic options is a huge plus , with the tones and everything built in .
Also in medibang making brushes from a png is easy rather than downloading a file like in Sai's case .
this is just my opinion based from experience though .
the desktop version is great , i couldn't get my head around the phone version though

I agree. I use Medibang for cleaning scanned lineart and placing flats and basecolors on the ipad; then I go to CSP on my laptop for all the details and edits and any stuff I couldn't fix in Medibang. Sometimes I use it for sketching or simple cell-shaded pieces, but it just can't do the detailed stuff I want to do on the ipad. One thing about the eraser options: Completely right that the real eraser sucks. However, every brush can be an eraser if you change the color to transparent (the white box next to the 2 main color choices you can switch between), and that works waaay better as an alternative. What drives me insane, is not being able to select and adjust multiple layers at the same time. Not having that option really slows down my process a lot.

Medibang was my go to app for digital painting when I was a student. It worked perfectly fine on my ancient gen 2 ipad back in 2016-2017 and I really enjoyed using it on my PC. After taking a break from digital art for a few years, I came back to medibang recently and was greeted with video ads every time I exit from the canvas. The canvas also keeps freezing on me every few stromes and I couldn't zoom in/out of my canvas unless I close the app and start again. I updated the app, updated my ipad (now I'm using the ipad pro from 2018) and restarted my ipad and the problem keeps happening. It was really frustrating so I went ahead and finally bought procreate. Now I'm having a much easier time painting. It's so sad because medibang was my holy grail back then but now the app just gives me such a hard time. I still prefer how the watercolour brush blends on medibang more than procreate blending though...

Thank you so much for this video! I got the app because of the Comic features but I had a really hard time learning simple tasks. and all tutorials were either screanshots in Japanese or not very detailed at all. Even the comic features are frustrating. I know it's free but I wish it would mask outside the panel lines automatically. You can disable the color picker if you tap on its icon but like you said the icons are not intuitive AT ALL. I also don't understand the primary and secondary color thing and if white is the same thing as transparent. Coming from just Procreate and how it handles reference layers the concept of sketch layers was also poorly explained and it took some messing around to understand the layer vs canvas thing where your fill bucket stops at limits on the current layer or any paint it finds anywhere on the canvas and how a sketch layer is designed to be ignored by the canvas setting. The gradient tool and the extra screantones and backgrounds you can download ignore this and can only fill a specific area if you use a clipping mask which I'm not a fan of (just personally find them confusing) or make a selection which is what I tend to do, otherwise they just fill the whole canvas, but you already talked about the issues with selection. Also if your canvas is not completely straight if you were rotating to draw, any shape, whether with the shape tools or selection, draws so that it's parallel with the size of the physical iPad rather than keeping orientation with your work. Lastly I was surprised when you said that the app doesn’t crash as I found it crashing frequently. Sometimes it’s not even about where the features are as much as it doesn’t make sense how the app handles certain things and their explanations and tutorials do not cover that. Everywhere else I looked everyone is praising the app so thank you for bringing to light some of these issues. It’s nice to know that other people have experienced them as well And I also hope that this additional rant can help anyone looking for information on how this app works. This is a very good review and if you are considering the app, do pay attention to some of these workflow issues as they can pile up
