  • On February 10th, 2024, we went on a game drive from Satara to Olifants Camp. While en route, we passed by the Timbavati Picnic site turn-off and witnessed an interesting spectacle. Five male lions were running in the road, and it took us some time to figure out what was happening. It seemed like a territorial display of dominance, as the two older males were being chased by three younger males who were foaming heavily from their mouths, indicating that they were under stress and not happy with the situation.
    As they were roaring and marking territory our guest was in awe with the sighting and for the most part, we were alone on the sighting really some Kruger Park magic to remember for sure.

    Wow! What a lovely video, as always. The young guys sure had intent. And what lovely bush sounds as a background for the lion roars. Thanks for sharing!

      @@mariasileno7936 no… he’s the son of the Nsemani males. Which is the older Mbiri male + the Rockfig male. Senior Mbiri was about 2 yrs older than Shaka + Zigzag. Only 1 of these males is their son, the other 2 have different fathers.

    Beautiful animals.
    I guess the one old fellow had to be certain they young males weren't just passing through. It's a bit sad to see the King dethroned, but that is nature's way.
    The young males could easily have killed him, being on his own, but showed him mercy; letting him leave unhurt.
    Rather like an old western movie; "...just get out of town, and don't come back."
    Great video!
    I love hearing the sounds of nature, rather than a music overlay dubbed far too loud. Keep them coming!

      Not sure what you mean by "heroic", but sometimes you will see a single lion will stand his ground against 2 or more opponents. It usually!!! ends up losing, and it basically comes down to how badly it will be injured. They're not stupid :)

    • @Mapogo792
      @Mapogo792 Před 3 měsíci +2

      @@johnnybgood1 If a bunch of numerically Inferior lions could defeat numerically superior lions that would've been heroic. A lots of lions defeating few lions is not heroic at all.
      And lions that don't run away from numerically superior enemies are definitely not smart.

    • @johnnybgood1
      @johnnybgood1 Před 3 měsíci

      @@Mapogo792 Ok, but it's just when you use the word "heroic", I have different associations with that word. I think it's primarily a human trait, being heroic. Like putting your life on the line to save people you have no affiliation with at all, to name an example. But it could also be people you hold dear and laying down your life for them would also be heroic in most cases. It's not black and white, but lions are certainly very opportunistic and tough beyond anything :)
