this song is a big song, not for crazy high notes or anything but there's so many fucking words especially at the end and it gets quite intense trying to breathe - man seeing him just ace it live is really nice
Love Tim Minchin’s Apart Together album. Every song is gold. His early stuff is great too, but this album hits differently in a good way.

The ending third of this song is a true masterpiece (whole song is great though). A ton of largely trite or seemingly random observations as well as the main refrain all unite together in an increasingly frantic and frustrated unity of thesis about the passage of time and the loss of our younger and better selves - it's a musical nervous breakdown that doesn't even truly resolve because, much like the people's he's observed, he's gotta go and is out of time too.
Much like life, your flight's gotta go when your flight's gotta go. Rarely do we get that resolution on our terms.

It's weird, I don't actually like the recorded version that much but I really like it live. Maybe I just like Tim more as a live performer.
