- Which double action revolver do wheelgun collectors covet more, the Smith & Wesson Triple Lock or the Colt Python? The Colt may be better known, but the Smith… We're not getting into that debate! Instead, Brownells GunTechs Steve Ostrem and Keith Ford are at Rock Island Auctions to show us an all-original S&W New Century First Model Hand Ejector, or "Triple Lock" for short. The name refers to the three locking points for the cylinder: at the back, at the front of the ejector rod, and one on the crane. The N-frame Triple Lock is renowned for its beautifully tight lockup, which explains its exceptional accuracy, aided by the inherent accuracy of its .44 Special chambering. Steve and Keith explain the Triple Lock's history and why it was discontinued.

Neat! Thank you Brownells for supporting the Lightening Project!
Perhaps the very best factory revolver the United States ever produced. A glorious masterpiece of American manufacturing, perhaps never to be exceeded with the current trends in human capital and manufacturing mentalities.
Ummm......ever heard of a company called COLT?
@@wizardofahhhs759 Colt made a lot of fine firearms. However, in terms of absolute quality, the S&W triple locks are considered the true creme de la creme of US factory firearms. A level of quality and craftsmanship that set them apart. The high water mark of US non custom firearms. The registered magnums from S&W in the 1930's are considered not far behind.
Beautiful piece!!
Wait a second... YOU’RE NOT IAN!

Hasta yo quiero piensas de uno igual que tengo
What would the greats like Elmer Keith think of the x-frame today?
Before or after he blew it up?
@@RyeOnHam lol, great point.
He might be asking S&W why they sawed off the shoulder stock.
Say, that's a nice piece...
Elmer Keith was 9 years old when the triple lock was introduced.... I don't think he had anything to do with it. Lol
He had a lot to do with using the gun, not in its development. As mentioned at 2:54, he used it when "hotloading .44 Specials" - which would eventually lead to the creation of the . 44 Magnum.
He even described the Triple Lock as the finest revolver ever made.
@@paleoph6168 Consider Elmer's age versus the time this particular triple-lock was designed.
Y si les digo que una persona encontró uno así mismo
Hey Ian You need to show the Browning Automatic Rifle.
