  • In this video I share the ideal firewood setup for the homeowner.
    Tractor: Kubota L2501
    Chainsaw: Husqvarna 572XP
    Wood Splitter: County Line 40-Ton
I know "ideal" is relative, but this setup works well for our use and our purposes here in rural New Hampshire.
This setup might not be ideal for you but hopefully these demonstrations can help you make an informed decision for you and your family when it comes to producing firewood and heating your home with firewood.
It was a pleasure using our Kubota L2501 Compact Tractor, Husqvarna 572XP Chainsaw, and County Line 40-Ton wood splitter on this near-spring day.
    Thanks for watching!

Scribing a line on the saw bar to quickly measure the length of your next cut/firewood…. BRILLIANT!

It's the easiest way I've found. Tried the zip tie trick and the bar magnet trick but wasn't a fan.

I just found your channel, and subscribed. Looks like we have a lot in common, chainsaws and tractors and firewood. Cheers from South Carolina!

I will add safety glasses too! I had a hydraulic hose burst on my work truck and was thankful I had them on at the time. 😮 Another relaxing video to watch! Fully agree on the carry-all. There are so many ways to customize them for your specific needs; I have PVC pipes mounted on the back and carry shovels, rakes pruners. What a handy item to have.
What was that ramp thing in the background where someone was dumping a wheel barrel? Interesting!

It certainly crossed my mind when the spinters were flying. Safety glasses should have been on!
We call the a manure ramp; just a way to heap manure... there was livestock kept on this property for some time without a tractor. That was my son, Jonathan tackling chicken chores. He's outgrown me by quite a bit now.

Ever think about bringing a few sharp chains with you and swapping out instead of sharpening in the field? I bought a cheap chain grinder from harbor freight and I’ll just sharpen 4-5 at a time and bring a couple spares when I cut. Saves a lot of time and grinder produces more consistent results than filing.

I had not thought about that. Still trying to hone my hand filing skills and to be honest, this is the only chain I've got for this bar. It'll be worth a shot when I get some spares. Thanks!

I've never, EVER seen anybody "pull" a file on the sharpening stroke before. I'm not going to say that "you're wrong", as I'm not an expert, but I've been cutting and filing or 30+ years, and have also watched a lot of CZcams videos of the claimed experts, and have never seen that. But I guess, if it works for you, so be it. I'm not going to hate on you or talk smack, as it very well may just work for you.
I may have to build a carryall for my 3pt as well. I've seen quite a few videos on how to build them, and different versions, but have just never gotten to it. And there's no way EVER that I'm going to spend the 2K for "The Big Tool Rack" version. To me that's just plain crazy.

I’ll be the annoying safety hawk: wear some chaps when running the saw. You never know when something could go wrong. I’ve seen them save my Dad’s leg, or life (from bleeding). You’ve got a wife and young kids, so wear that safety gear every time. Accidents can happen to even the most experienced operators.

All good points! I'm far from the most experienced operator to be certain. I suppose there's no excuse to not suit up in the full PPE. It does no good sitting on the sidelines.

On the predators, play, a radio with gospel music keeps raccoons and other animals away from chickens. That’s what we do here on our farm.
