    Worst er experience I ever had was when I was 18. I had a bad stomach cramp that prevented me from standing up straight and I was nauseous. Because I didn't act like it hurt very bad, even though I gave an 8 on the pain scale when they asked....I was sat in a nearly empty waiting room for 5 hours, watching a drug seeker, cut finger, and over paranoid mom and baby get called back. I ended up having appendicitis, and was rushed into emergency surgery after the CT scan came back showing an extremely hot appendix. I was treated like a liar up until that point. Needless to say, I never went back to that hospital in my life and encouraged everyone I knew to avoid that place if they needed something more than just a bandaid. Sometimes, small town hospitals suck.

Since then I researched how to fix it myself and it's SO simple!!! Infuriating

      @@mswetra2610. True but they now treat EVERYONE LIKE ADDICTS AND CRIMINALS because of all the chaos the real addicts caused. Us chronic and intractable pain patients are treated like lowlifes while now the addicted get love, care, free treatment and their drug of choice while being coddled because they are “sick” while Us real, legitimate patients are called liars even when we’ve had the surgeries, X-rays and permanent disabilities to prove it. We are dismissed, under medicated, have to pass outrageous and unnecessarily often and painful blood draws and urinalysis every time we have an appointment. Which is mandatory monthly now. The addicts have hurt us so bad and unless we start making legal complaints nothing will change. We were never the abusers, or the dealers and our medication doesn’t make us high. It just allows us to live a somewhat normal lifestyle when we are dosed properly. We have a legitimate and legal right to receive whatever medication, in whatever dose that makes it possible to want to get out of bed. Care for our basic needs and tend to our families. I will continue to fight for my rights regarding my health and medication but I can’t do it alone. There are legal complaint departments we can write to. We can report our doctors to their board members and administrators and the medical associations they are a part of. We need to start doing these things. Google the information you need. Talk to attorneys and medical boards. Let’s get our lives back . We can also sue for our rights to receive our medications. These doctors have a duty of care to us which they are ignoring. The amount of non emergency cases that come into an ER is crazy. I still remember when I first started working at the hospital and being surprised by the amount of, I joke not, stubbed toes, that were in the waiting room. When I am there screening people and we are over capacity(which is basically a constant thing), I recommend either the other hospital in town, or the urgent/quick care places depending on the day.

    • @sonipitts
      @sonipitts Před 2 lety +4

      I think a lot of it is because trying to get an appointment to see your GP is a week's long wait (and most of them will simply suggest going to the ER in any case), and as he noted, a lot of people don't realize that's what urgent cares are for. When the next GP appointment is weeks out and you're not sure if you broke that toe or not, the ER can seem like the right (and/or only other) answer.

      People who call off sick need doctor's excuses even if they get sick or hurt outside of office hours. Even in areas with urgent care patients often don't want/can't pay to go there and then be sent to ER anyway.

    • @ValleyOakPaper
      @ValleyOakPaper Před rokem +3

      Urgent care is cheaper and faster, particularly if they're in a hospital. E.g. I went to UC with an infected toe one morning. Doctor says it needs surgery and he was going to get the foot surgeon to give me a call. Podiatry called after lunch and I got an appointment for surgery in the afternoon. Get this - I waited for the call at home! So much more comfortable than waiting in the ER. Insurance hardly ever tries to deny an UC bill either.

    As someone with hypermobile ehlers danlos syndrome whose left shoulder dislocates usually at least once or twice a day (along with several other joints), your explanation of dislocations was hilarious. I'm fortunate that my joints tend to pop back in pretty easy, just like they pop out pretty easy. Less fortunately, the torn labrums and muscles don't heal so easily lol. Genetic mutations in collagen suck. But at least I've only ever had one ER visit for a dislocation - you get used to putting them back in against a wall or with a friend/family member to help.

      Very religious people will. Usually women who are concerned about their modesty. My sister took the ultra conservative Christian religion we were raised in pretty zealously, and she refused to remove her blouse, even though my mother (in the same religion) assured her it was okay. In some religions, it's forbidden for a woman to allow a man to see her body (chest, hair, but below the belt is the big one). A friend of mine was a traveling doctor in such a country, and he wasn't even allowed to see a female patient if she had to remove her clothes, even if that meant she would die. It wasn't just religious tradition, it was actually against the law in that region.

      I've heard of a lot of birthing people who don't want to wear them during labour, because they feel dehumanizing. There's actually a few companies that make nice labour clothes that look better, are more comfortable, allow easy access to the spine for epidurals, belly for monitoring, and breasts for feeding. They also keep your bum covered if you want to, contrary to hospital gowns that just leave it on display.
      Two brands I have found with a bit of quick googling are Lila Mama and Pretty Pushers

    When the gowns are the backless style rather than the wrap kind, I always ask (politely, & saying I understand if there's a shortage) for two, so I can put one on backwards for both modesty & warmth.
    I have a spinal injury, & letting cold get directly into it/causing the muscles to clamp around it ramps up my pain like nobody's business.
    I always wear nice - but modest - underwear when I know I'm going to hospital, just in case. 😅

    I dislocated my shoulder when I was like 4. May have been partially dislocated but I had no idea what was even going on at that age. And my sister knew it was dislocated but still thought it was a good idea to try and keep it a secret from my parents cause she was the one who caused it to dislocate. Yeah, no way I would’ve stopped crying when I was in that much pain.
