The crazy thing is that they did not work on her forehand, her improved confidence is what has made the difference. Players keep going to her forehand, it is only going to make that shot more consistent.

I said it yesterday and I'll say it again. Coco is getting closer to her prime. And when she reaches her prime there is no telling the numbers and records she is going to put up.

Good match. A Coco match nowadays will be a tough one for any opponent.
Tennis fans are so hard on Coco. She's just over a year younger than Alcaraz and has achieved more than he had at her age.
Alcaraz had also won a slam at her age and was no1. So i dont see how gauff has achieved more
i think you'll find COCO has been playing professionally since age 15 (approx 4 years) whereas CARLITO has not !!
@@notis6107 They've both won a Slam but Gauff has reached the latter stages of more Slams (including another final).
Yes, Alcaraz was number 1, but only because the best player last year wasn't awarded points for Wimbledon and didn't play in America due to his refusal to be vaccinated. Had Djokovic accrued points in those events, Alcaraz would not have been #1 last year either (he fully deserved it this year).
Oh and Gauff has been ranked #1, albeit in doubles.

Same scenario as Washington final. Sakkari's only plan is to hit everything to Coco's forehand. When that plan isn't working she can't figure out anything else. Cocos forehand isn't a weapon yet but it's not a liability either and that's enough.
Summed it up perfectly. I'm here just wondering, "Wow they are gunning for that forehand, Coco really receiving some top-tier practice for quite possibly the most resilient forehand in a couple of years?"

@@miguelcunanan9855 yes. Gilbert said they didn't change her forehand mechanics. They didn't have enough time but might make some adjustments in the off-season. She just didn't hit her forehand with confidence and conviction. Her increased repetitions and confidence along with the natural increase in strength as she transitions to adulthood will make her forehand a weapon. Maybe not the best forehand in tour, but an addition to her arsenal. Add that to her backhand which is very good and her court coverage which is by far the best in the WTA and she can reach number 1. Just stay healthy and improve 1st serve percentage.
I doubt that it was her 'plan'. She just randomly hits the ball, that's all.

Coco has played well consistently since summer, even with a tough draw here, she cruised through, while Iga got quite bit gift from an easy draw. Looking forward to the Coco vs Rybakina final, these two got a very tough draw and earned their spot every round with no gift.

Coco has demonstrated a more solid and robust performance although Greek competitor compelled her capacity within this stage. Gauff always proves her dominance and quality on the court as a grand slam champion.

The day Serena when finally beat her sister Venus is when her career took off, because in Serena's mind, her sister was the better player of the two.
