    Shambhala was the first ride my fiancé took me up to when we went to PortaVentura! She urged me to rush to the back of the park as quickly as possible to beat the crowds so we could ride this coaster first! I’m so thankful she did, the ride was amazing, smooth as butter, and felt like you were flying! I’ve never experienced a coaster as magical as Shambhala, and I don’t think I ever will again!

    So, I ended up visting PortAventura on Wednesday (and not Tibidabo, as I'd been musing about doing earlier--I still hope to get out there someday). It was a relatively short visit and I wasted some time getting lost and unsuccessfully trying to get cash for the lockers, but I did get in some rides. Some impressions:
    Shambhala: One of the greatest coasters I've ever ridden. An absolute masterpiece. I think I might actually still rank Superman: The Ride above it, as hypers go, but I do admit Shambhala had better cars, restraints and presentation. I love the staggered seating on these later B&M hyper cars.
    Dragon Khan: One of the most INTENSE coasters I've ever ridden. I think... I think it might actually be too long. It's telling that B&M never made another 8-inversion looper. Had to sit down for a long time after I rode it. If they'd just, say, left off the final pair of corkscrews, I would have found it perfect. Maybe I'm just getting old. Well, confronting your mortality is a thing coasters are supposed to do, I guess.
    Stampida: A joy, possibly the original inspiration for Hersheypark's Lightning Racer. I got a back-row ride on the red side and I actually found it quite smooth, though it had nice airtime and laterals. My main complaint: unlike most of the big rides at PortAventura, this one does NOT have bins for loose items on the platform, so take that under advisement.
    El Diablo: *Nice* Arrow mine train! The long swooping turn off the third lift is a bigger finale than these rides often have.
    If I'd had a second day there's much more there that I'd have done, but I had a train to catch...

This has always been a bucket list park for me, as Shambhala looks like the best traditional B&M hyper, Dragon Khan looks like a solid looper, Red Force looks like an awesome intamin, and the park looks to have a great atmosphere. I personally would've just expanded Port Aventura to include a new land rather than an entirely new small park. • @MattMcIrvin
      @MattMcIrvin Před rokem

      If you are the kind of rider who chooses violence, Dragon Khan is pretty remarkable. I think I'm not quite hardcore enough for it. Maybe I should try Kraken or Kumba since they are basically slightly abridged versions.

  • @Stampida9
    @Stampida9 Před rokem +3

    I love PortAventura. It’s my third favourite park after Phantasialand and Alton Towers, both of which I find a bit classier in terms of presentation and theming.
    Also, I found that Shambhala was the only really smooth roller coaster. Furious Baco was a one-and-done for me and Dragon Khan bruised my ears. I loved Stampida, despite its roughness - I thought the duelling and surprise hello moment with the other train were excellent. Plus, I thought it’s location in the park (Wild West) was perfect for a wooden coaster.
    I highly recommend Hotel Gold River, which is better themed than most of the park!

  • @adriacerezobertran8507
    @adriacerezobertran8507 Před rokem +5

    Although this is an incredible resort, as my home park I still feel two major gaps the park needs to fill: 1-Ejector airtime/hang time (it would be so cool to open a mack extreme spinning coaster on the polynesia area). 2- a huge and intense flat ride, like a giant frisbie, cuz besides hurakan Condor there is no major thrill flat ride in Port Aventura.

    • @CanobieCoaster
      @CanobieCoaster  Před rokem +2

      Both those would be awesome additions.

    • @StamfordBridge
      @StamfordBridge Před rokem +3

      Also, the park needs new, non-corrupt management that doesn’t push the fast passes and treat the normal majority of park goers who have regular tickets like absolute garbage. If you don’t know what I mean, try going to lots of other theme parks and you’ll realize how different PA is in its operations.

      Serpentine is probably an 8 (judge by flat rides) and I have reviews answering the other 2.

      It's cool that it goes straight into the first loop. B&M doesn't do that very often, do they? And are there any other B&M's that have a *second* vertical loop? Kraken I guess?

      I use different scales for different ride types. Serpiente would get an 8 for a flat. The coasters are 5-6ish.

      Furius Baco's since they can cause neckchopping.

    If I ask you: What are your least favorite restraints at the resort?
    Canobie Coaster would answer: I'm not a big fan of the restraints on Furius Baco and Stampida. I wish they could use better restraints.
    If I ask you: What are your favorite restraints at the resort? Are your favorite restraints found on Hurakan Condor and Dragon Khan? What do you think?

  • @cliquet3scliquet3s96

    Canobie Coaster would say:
    Number 10: Thrill Towers - Down at Ferrari Land. This is the superior S&S drop tower. This one slowly lifts you up, giving more time to take in the sights. Then you have a solid drop. There's some suspense and the start of the drop gives some decent airtime. But as fun as this is, the resort has a better drop tower I'll get to later and talk about more in a separate r _ _ _ _ _ .
