Too bad there wasn’t a huge studio closure just yesterday before this script was finished. That would be bad timing.
LOL!
Would ShillUp even report on it?
😅😅😅
Can't even use the timing as an excuse..it's just the new system he's got in place that caused this to fall through. This definitely deserves to be covered this week imo
Nice bait
Sony "I've had the worst PR of any publisher this week"
Microsoft _hold my beer_
Not really, they didn't lose anything they got exactly what they wanted They just use one game as a scapegoat to push it forward for other games. Y'all just fell for that...
@@aguinchico6536 in terms of PR, Microsoft was way worse...
@@aguinchico6536wow look at this expert over here 😂😂😂 shut up

Isn't it magical how all those _"technical issues"_ and _"safety concerns"_ disappeared once Playstation realized the backlash they caused?
They were either excuses or it just wasn't worth losing a lot of the player-base over.
Too bad xbox couldn't see that hint too lol
Back when I used to be very active with Tekken 7 I got my ass handed to me by an Eddy player.
After a massive losing streak I turned and said to him, “I don’t know anything about this character”.
To which he replied, “I don’t know anything about any character”
If Sony is Drunk and Nintendo is High, then Microsoft is straight up suicidal, genuinely don't know what they're doing closing the studio to what is arguably their greatest game in years
Meanwhile Valve be out here like...
Because the big name left. And as awesome as Hi-fi is, i don't think it was very profitable. Probably why its releasing on PS5. To recoup more costs
@@samreddig8819and yet it's never the execs that are accountable for...not promoting their more niche games enough?
Execs are afraid to take chances on new things, even if they’re profitable. They’d rather hash out the same old formulas because it’s what’s guaranteed to make a profit. They’re motivated by short sighted gains because it makes them look good to shareholders and they speedrun that 5 million bonus even if it costs good people their livelihood.
You tried way to hard to be edgy😂
Yup steam giving refunds was a GOAT move. Hit Sony where it hurt
All hail to lord Gabe!
Should all in for the refund tbh, after switch and bait on ff rebirth, stellar blade, and now this whole psn bs in helldiver 2, everyone should avoid Soyny all together
@@KABLAMMATSafter all the Microsoft studio closures everyone may as well ignore Microsoft completely….
Now you can see how stupid that argument is, if everyone took that stance we would never buy another game again
@@KABLAMMATS Yep. I really want Stellar Blade, was really looking forward to it coming to PC, even after the censorship (mods ftw!), but this Helldivers and PSN thing has me really hesitant to buy any Soyny published game in the future. Maybe if they start behaving themselves I'll reconsider by the time Stellar Blade makes it to PC. Soyny is going to have to be really well behaved, though!
@@Dr.AkakiaFriendly reminder that Valve had no refund policy whatsoever prior to being sued by the Australian government, and fought tooth and nail to avoid implementing one.
Alan Wake 2 could recoup its costs in a single day on Steam
Though another issue may be its unusually high system requirements making it unplayable for large swaths of PC gamers. My own PC can comfortably handle any modern or "AAA" game at medium settings or so, *except* for Alan Wake 2.
@@mikek9491 all the more reason to make it available to the biggest audience of PC enthusiasts
It isn't about making money. It is about spiting Steam. Sweeny really, really, hates Valve.
Games do not sale like that on Steam. People talk about Helldiver's 2 like its sold 10 Million units on Steam in one day. Spider Man sold 33 million on PlayStation, 1.5 million on Steam. Sony says the sales for Helldiver's 2 is close to 50/50, PS5/Steam, which is the exception. Why do you think GTA6 doesn't even have PC release window? The biggest game EVER not going to be on PC at launch. Single player games on PC is just feeding the Pirates for not much return.
@@blackrahk2037 I hadn't considered the console angle, but it still doesn't help sales on PC to not include the premier storefront on that platform
Just a quick throw-in: Arkane Austin "only" made Prey and Redfall, Dishonored was made by Arkane Lyon, which is still active (for now), so at least we're still getting Dishonored, even though Prey was also a masterpiece
No, Austin assisted with Dishonored 1. They were a satellite studio until after Dishonored released and then they scaled up.

its so baffling why they sold HD2 on 177 regions without PSN services in the first place
Likely incompetence. Whichever Sony team is in charge of making the Steam page and listing the game likely checked all the region boxes and didn’t even bother looking at the game requirements or didn’t cross check the game requirements with regions that could make a PSN account.
Or even more lazy reason, they checked all the region boxes and thought “oh well the PSN requirement will sort it out”. Then when the game bypassed the PSN requirement, well they sort of found out this weekend.
At least people could buy the game and link PSN from any region. Now people refunded the game and can't buy it again, because Sony delisted it
I'm not sure if Sony ever resold HD2 on those countries again. Is the game still unavailable?

Helldivers 2 players literally killed over 2 billion bugs in 14 hours to complete a major order.
Sony had no chance.
We dive together or we don't dive at all✊️
In the latest patch Arrow Head revealed that number was calculated wrong. It was counting kills of the whole squad and adding it to the total per player. If a 4 player squad killed 200 bugs, that match counted for 800 bugs.

But let me fire the person who tried to help the community save the game. We are learning how to dea- I mean LISTEN to the PC gamers but that guy's gotta go 😂
What I learned from this whole Helldivers 2 debacle, is that the official community managers and moderators are very unprofessional. Spitz and Baskinator were very aggressive and demeaning to the community. Misty basically just went completely silent, deleting her Twitter and everything, offering no communication. And Purple Squidgeon made sexual assault accusations against someone he didn't like. I personally would fire all of them. Two of them did their jobs very poorly, one of them didn't even do their job at all, and another one made SA allegations against someone they didn't like on the official server which is definitely not the place to be doing that kind of stuff. If they acted like this in any other profession, 100% they would be fired. The only CM that actually did their job, and did it well was Twinbeard.
THANK YOU! So glad someone said something EXACTLY how it is.. They are all immature children and should be fired.
What did you think Misty was going to do? She gave someone and answer to their question and she had legions of you dweebs telling her to kill herself.
90% of community managers are like this. all community managers are, are just people who sit at home all day and are unemployed, its the twitter "people" if you know what I mean. the kind of people who sit in a discord voice chat with random people. **Those** kind of 'people'...
Yeah, I dont know why Baskinator is still a CM. Its asif shes protected by DEI. She openly mocked Helldivers for RPing superearth. And was found doing bans on her own feelings. She should be the first to go. She dragged Arrowsheads Image through the mud. And then she has pronounces and flgas in her bio which is a huge red flag.. yet shes still there.

As a Filipino myself, the addresses or regions you have to make for PSN accounts are usually Hong Kong or Singapore addresses.
I didn't get this. So, entire countries can´t actually have PSN accounts? What's the reason?
@@martinargota They would have to get PSN accounts from other regions. Because Playstation doesn't provide any services and addresses when making an account for countries like the Philippines.
@@Jago-pl7op Why though? I imagine Philippines has a bunch of potential Sony customers.
@@martinargota Two things.
1) Some countries have a very restrictive view on western companies demanding data from their citizens. Especially as the console itself is a blackbox and many countries' top officials are nervous about having one in their living room. So they ask very restrictive measures to have PSN instituted in the country. Heck some of legit countries had you entering your biometrics like face and finger print to make a PSN account.
2) Because third world country currency exchange rate is not good at all and the number of people who can even afford a PS5 is very less in those countries.
@dikkeroege I don't really know about that. It could be those times when Sony tried to make an HQ in the Philippines, but the workers kept going on strike and they shutdown the one in the Philippines.
I shit you not, the second you talked about Spits possibly losing his job over this I got a notification from twitter confirming that Spits has in fact lost his job.
Fucking wild coincidence.
He should’ve swallowed
Spitz realized he fucked up bad, so he fell on his sword to save the game lmaoooooo
Spitz is no longer a mod on the discord apparently so that is an accurate report on that one
Good, honestly. He didn't suggest putting those refunds and negative reviews in because it was for the benefit of the game, he did it so people would leave the Discord alone. He already nuked the HD1 Discord when it wasn't going the way he wanted it to.
There’s another one who should be fired for slander, too, I heard.
Baskinator, a community manager, is the worst. She literally said she is happy with players abandoning the game as then she has an easier job when it comes to banning people.
Bro, AH are based, but their mods and community managers are fucking tools.
Did he spitz or swallow?
good, but the entire community interaction staff need to be fired. ban all the unpaid janitors (discord mods) and fire the community manager.

Let's not kid ourselves. Sony backed down once refunds started flooding in. Those reviews are as useful as thoughts and prayers. Money speaks loudest.
If I go to steam and see a game that has mostly positive reviews. I'm more likely to take a look. If I see a game that has negative or lower, I leave the store page and I don't give it a second glance. Steam reviews definitely play a role in purchases.
Idk much about the Xbox or PlayStation reviews but in terms of steam they play a pretty big role imho. If I see a game on steam that has negative reviews or even “mixed” reviews then I’m straight up not going to consider buying it, on the flip side, if I see a game with positive reviews then I’m more willing to give it a chance. Might just be a steam thing idk
the review bombs created a feedback loop with the refunds - the numbers of refunds wouldn't have happened without a coordinated community push, and the steam reviews helped make that collective action clear. No, the reviews didn't directly influence Sony, but the flurry of both the reviews and the refunds brought Valve's attention to it, and that led to a wider scope of refunds, which Sony in turn noticed. Not all collective action is direct, a lot of it is just building hype and cohesion, but you don't get the numbers and the result you want without appealling to people's social desires as well as their financial drives.
Not entirely true. Sony still probably uses reviews as a metric but it definitely is not as valuable as mass refunds tho lmao

It’s really hard to be excited about gaming these days because of the seemingly omnipresent specter of death looming over every developer, especially those under a big company
The tweet of the week is from game developer Maisie O. Dorchaidhe. She wrote:
“things that will no longer keep you safe in this industry:

You can apply that to everything. Capitalistic hell hole.
You know what i love most about the helldivers 2 shitshow? It heavily reinforced Swen talking about how bad conditions were when thry were under a publisher.
Line that up with the success of indie devs the last few years and im hoping we can pull power from pubishers and give them back to the developers.

"30 countries only able to sign up for PSN"?
I believe it was more like 69 actual countries who can sign up for PSN, but the ~120 countries that can't got blown out of proportion due to non-existing countries, states etc.
Still, 177 vs 120 - it doesn't matter. People who buy the game should be able to play.
edit after fact checking:
Some countries in that 69 can only make accounts if they have a PlayStation Console. Effectively making a PSN account an up to 500$ account.
A Ukrainian for example showcased that they couldn't make an account, and PlayStation support told them it's because they need to make it on a PlayStation.

Wasn’t Spitz the same person Arrowhead had to apologise for before? For mocking players who were upset about nerfing.
Spitz as a CM won the award of jumping the gun without understanding the whole situation, taking sides without literally having discussed with the team what is happening, without information he then proceeded to blame the player base, then he sided with the player base to then blame the publisher (he was right on this though) and then he got fired, probably the most interesting CM story in gaming.

Really happy to see ol Shillup give Dread Delusion a highlight in the video. I’ve gone through almost all of lovely hellplace’s (the dev) previous work leading up to the current version of DD and I loved seeing the evolution over time. It’s become one of my favourite games and I know it will earn the success that it deserves.
There were so many huge indie games that landed on the 9th, I wish there was more attention given for how many neat entries there were. My shoutout would definitely be Rabbit & Steel, an insanely well made Roguelike meets Shmup meets FFXIV raid mechanics??? It is genuinely quickly one of my favorite roguelike games ever, it is insane how well it works for being a solo dev project.
Besides that there's also 1000xRESIST, Cryptmaster, CorpoNation, Asleep and Brocula. There were so many entries just for the 9th. We're in an insane space for indies currently.
Tango closing gutted me. Both evil within and hi fi rush had amazing potential to continue. Rip
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 was great, really sad they won't make 3+4.
Okay, porbably the most important fact in regards to the Helldivers 2, the reason Sony backtracked was most likely legal reasons, as on their public website, it stated "Signing in to PSN is optional when playing a Playstation game on PC", which they changed (the same day the update hit) to "Some Playstation games may require you sign in and link to an account for PSN."
And that's false marketing, which they would most likely not win, as that's their official website. So that was most likely the reason they backtracked. Not saying the other part might not also have had an influence, but it rarely does for these huge companies.

Points to make about the Helldivers situation:
- Spitz's comments were childish and people should stop behaving unprofessionally when representing companies.
- Sucker Punch's statement makes me wonder if Sony's future plans involve blocking online functionalities behind a ps plus subscription on PC as well.
- AAA studios, as DJ Khaled says: are "suffering from success", because as greater the scope and popularity of the studio properties become, the greater the chances for the publisher's executives to destroy them with greed.
I genuinely don't understand why people are making Spitz out to be some hero. Most of the CM's at Arrowhead are showing how mentally unstable they are and one of them is literally making up false rape accusations against one user
WTF does PS+ have to do with anything? You had to sign up for a FREE PSN account, not a PS+ subscription. The same thing Microsoft, EA, 2K, Ubisoft, WBGames, etc. require.
It was also said out loud before the game launched, at launch it was literally in the ELUA screen, they literally said that they were giving people until May 30th....I cannot stand people who cry about everything and are so pathetic they feel the need to make things up, a PS+ subscription was never going to be a requirement on PC.
If they try PS+ on PC... they'll be in for an awakening. Microsoft tried that with Games for Windows Live... that failed so hard that Microsoft isn't doing that anymore.

7:02 I read a review on Steam of someone saying "My friend can no longer purchase this game in his country, so I bought myself to leave this review and get a refund", so yeah screw Sony
Seems counterproductive to give them money if that's what you wanna do
is it really surprising that they delisted it from those countries considering one of the main points of criticism was that it was available to those countries to begin with?
@@Calebe428 thats the unintended consequence of of making an issue over it. Technically it shouldn't have been available in those countries, however circumventing it was as easy as selecting an available country when creating an account to link to the game.(note this is how it works with nearly every other publisher) But now going forward you cant they are gonna go by the books and just not sell it where in places where PSN doesn't operate in
As a Homeworld fan I’m both beyond excited and also very nervous. There were some issues with the demo which left me feeling uncertain with if they’d truly pull it off.
I truly hope it does, it’s crazy that two decades have passed since HW2. I did get an email about my collectors edition being delayed though which sucks, I want my model ships :(.
Microsoft is the equivalent of Kendrick Lamar if he wrote diss tracks about himself.
The Sony thing has been dwarfed by the MS thing
Nah fam, not really 😂
At least they walked it back. Ain't no walking Tango Studios back...
@@Chopzi11alog in, Phil Spencer.
Remember a few years ago when journalists campaigned to get rid of public facing reviews and tried to frame review bombing as harassment and hate?
Thanks for the shout out about Alan Wake 2. I've played every Remedy-verse game up to this point. Love them all in different ways. Well except Alan Wake 2. Won't install epic. Would buy it instantly if it was on Steam or GOG, etc.
Modern video game news make me miss gaming as a kid, when i had no clue what was going on behind the scenes, or that there was a behind the scenes
Much love but I don't know about the 'best headsets on the market" when there are so many audio companies to compete against.
Content is on point as always, cheers.
Same thing with keyboards (as a custom mech kbd snob, I think I can speak to that). The mouse I have from them is really nice though, aside from the software lmao.
@@gracelandtoo6240 Yeah, the two Steelseries mice i owned were absolutely solid. Software hasn't changed then, huh? :D
Yeah their mice are good, and the software is… optional at least.
Uncle Phil screwed up ShillUp yet again lmao
I did my part. Bring our divers home. No man left behind.
Idk why he didn’t mention it but Bungie is letting anyone play Shadowkeep, Beyond Light, Witch Queen, and Lightfall plus the 4 seasons from this year until Final Shape releases
The best part of my week every week. Thanks, as usual Mr. Up!
I'm doing my part 👍
For democracy soldier!!
I’m doing my part. 🫡
Btw Sony still has helldivers unavailable to a lot of countries and no ones really paying attention to it
I really love the cape idea. Shows that they recognize what happens and not just sweep it under the rug
Arkane's closure sucks, but Microsoft didn't kill them, previous management's push for Redfall did. You can't just "Ship of Theseus" through 70% attrition, it will rot a studio to the bone
Pretty sure they never wanted to make redfail.... MS made them make it
Production started and was announced before the Microsoft acquisition of Bethesda.
MS is a true blue American capitalist with all the classic sins of leading cartels, bribing politicians, and strangling innovation in the crib, but Redfall, for once, ain't one of them
@@chadstudd1616 Production on Redfall started way before the MS acquisition, hence the cancellation of the planned PS5 port
What do you mean only 30 countries can legally make a PSN account when the actual number is around 70?
Some countries require you to buy a PlayStation console in order to sign up for a PSN. Ukraine for example.
@@Ceece20
This is not true, on reddit many people from Ukraine were able to create a PSN account on their phone
Well considering the official statement from Sony is that you need the console, I'm more inclined to believe Sony over some random person on CZcams. No offense.
Don't forget Sins of a Solar Empire 2 confirmed on Steam this summer !
Respectfully, I don't think the PSN thing was about data. I think it was about showing investors the 100k PC players as "active PSN" users to investors during quarterly earnings calls.
Schill Up . Pretty much sums up best of the best games without drama. Please let me find more channels like this

It's sad to hear about Tango. Others I understand, 2 mobile game companies and other Redfall creator. Core Prey team was already gone. So it was a shell left.
Hi-Fi Rush and Ghostwire Tokyo were liked by many but didn't meet sales/players quota. 3 good back to back games not played by people much.
I don't know why western based companies want to move their studios away from Japan. First Sony moved yheir PlayStation HQ to USA and vlosed all Japanese studios and now Microsoft closed their only jaosnese studio in history that they just got.
They made such good games. Not a single bad game in their portfolio. This makes me concerned for Ninja Theory and Obsidian.
Hope Tango was closed because of talent leaving with Shinji Mikami to his new studio.
Arrowhead should do some deep review of their community management. As a whole. Spitz absolutely is not the only one not doing what good CM should do over there.
Glad the whole situation got resolved tho. Rare occasion of gamers pushing together and winning.
One of the other CM is literally making up false rape accusations against one user
@@charliem5604 Yep. And there are some stuff going on around the main mod as well, quite anti-gamer behavior.
Sounds like the industry needs a review of their CM as a whole. its too common of a occurrence.
spitz is fired now
I don't think gamers really 'won' , i thenk we shot ourselves in the foot with this one
RIP to KSP2 as well. Intercept Games also lost 70 staff this week.
I can't believe SkillUp themed PC is a real thing LMAO.
