@@5610winston There are some arguments, but regarding Mendelssohn being responsible for making Bach's music popular at his time, for sure he would have ensured that he is known as author if he was.
@@5610winston I am basing my argument by ear, and if that is not acceptable, then it is fine, you do not have to hear me out. But this is all I can say: A) No other composer I know of, those two included, ever composed contrapunctally in the way we see in the Fugue. B) a hallmark of Bach is that you can hear compositions of his, in other compositions of his. Here, you can hear parts from: BWV 532, 535, 541, 542, 547, 582 and probably many others, just going off memory here. C) Similar to point B. This mystery composer, if not Bach, had nailed the "Bach style" in the Fugue down to a tee, such that I'm wondering, was it that the original composer was forgotten, or did he just make this "Bach like" contrapunctus one time, and never did anything like it again? I am not talking about who is "better" or not. My argument for this being Bach isn't because the piece is iconic, and I want to 'preserve' his reputation. To me the music, and not not the reputation, is what matters. For me, from hearing, I can see why the Toccata would be under dispute; to me, it is not something you can hear on it's own and say, "yeah, this was definitely Bach and no one else". The way the lines interact with each other, that so far only Bach was able to sustain (composers like Handel, Lübeck and Buxtehude sometimes did this sparingly, or just couldn't do so up to the same level), is not found in the Toccata. To me the debate should be on whether the Toccata was composed by Bach or not. But as for the Fugue? If you've listened to other composers and Bach, you see that this is either Bach, or someone who went to great lengths to not only copy his style, but also pick from his other compositions, and put this together quite well. No Fugue that Mozart or Mendelssohn, or anyone else that I have heard, for that matter, ever sounded like this, or sounded like any of Bach's other keyboard fugues. Take the 8 little Preludes and Fugues. Sure, scholarly debate is there, but if you're familiar with Bach, you'll know they probably weren't composed by him. Even Bach's 'simple' preludes and fugues, such as those in WTC 1 and 2 are different from those 8, in the way contrapunctal devices are used. To me all the scholarly debate can rage on, but until one day we discover another composer who could manipulate contrapunctally like Bach did, or better, I do not see how anyone we know of now could have written the Fugue. It makes more sense to me that this Fugue, with so much in common with Bach's other fugues, and written in the way he wrote so many of his other fugues, and with episodes having so much in common with episodes from other his other fugues, was probably written by Bach... ... than by someone else, despite no other composer we know of having music that sounds like Bach's. Maybe it's a musical ear thing. Forgetting reputation and preference, and just focussing on the music, some people believe the likes of Handel and Buxtehude composed similarly to Bach. Sure they were all Baroque. But Bach could mix lines together in combination for hours, and these guys did it for literal _seconds_ , just a few bars here and there. Same for Mozart, and all the other well knowns. I understand that surrounding Bach, some people think he was wildly different from other composers. Some don't see it and think he was simply different. This is not a criticism of those who think other wise. I am in the first category. Just perhaps explains why there's such fierce debate. Maybe it's like marmite. Some people see a big difference, some people don't see a big difference between Bach's style and others. For these reasons I don't believe any other composer currently known of, could have written the Fugue. Maybe the composer of the Toccata was someone else. But the Fugue is Bach all over.
Magnificent!! To think there is a man that can play one of the most heavenly pieces of music on an accordion... virtuoso. I once heard a recording of the Toccata and Fugue in D minor played on a full-scale, church-sized pipe organ. And you... you played the portable version. This is truly a treasure of a performance, and I could not be happier. Truly, magnificent. Well played.
Honestly as a complete know-nothing about the accordion, who would ever think of this instrument being played like this and as being absolutely spellbinding - what an eyeopener! Fantastic 👍
Some months ago, I had a little chat with an accordionist who played the toccata and fugue, somewhere on the street. I said: - The toccata itself may be not even from Bach, perhaps one of his pupils wrote it. But the fugue is definitely by Bach. He smiled and said: - That's right. The toccata is simply an improvisation. As an encore, he went on to play the great fugue in G minor, BWV 452. And Sergei is a fantastic musician!
Not true - Two keyboards, playing simultaneously, while squeezing the accordion in concert. Anybody with an exacting and experienced mind can see this is an unreal accomplishment in not just the area of music, but ANY physical effort that requires this sort of coordination which means there are very few parallels in human existence. It's difficult to find an analogy. But can anyone type on two keyboards at one time while doing cadence with their feet at the same time?
Have just spotted this on CZcams. What a musician!! All from memory and so true to the score. Pure joy in listening to this rendition and respect for Mr.Teleshev.😀

You prove what a versatile instrument the accordion is by playing Bach's Toccata & Fugue the way I believe Bach would have wanted it played . congratulations .
Sergei, your Jupiter is definitely the best-sounding accordion (Bayan) in the world! I absolutely love the full and rich bass register it has. I play the button accordion a little, and I have a nice B-type instrument with Stradella bass, but I have always wished I had a free bass Jupiter, like yours, so that I could play classical music the way they were originally written for the original instruments.
That's because it operates in pretty much the same manner. Music has to be written specifically for an accordion or a pipe organ if you want it to sound good on either. Not all music sounds good on all instruments.
This is a bayan, the most complex type of accordion and the most difficult to play. They have 105 treble notes and anywhere from 105-120 bass notes. There are also switches for combining registers on either side.
I just love hearing a master player on an accordion. I am an organist by training, and have enjoyed playing a number of very nice harmoniums. The tone of the accordion is not unlike that of the harmonium. I was in tears by the time the final chords died. Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!

There is considerable doubt as to whether Bach even wrote this. More likely suspects are Mendelssohn or perhaps Mozart.
@@5610winston There are some arguments, but regarding Mendelssohn being responsible for making Bach's music popular at his time, for sure he would have ensured that he is known as author if he was.
@@5610winston i personally believe that Bach didn't wrote any of his musics.
@@5610winston
I am basing my argument by ear, and if that is not acceptable, then it is fine, you do not have to hear me out.
But this is all I can say:
A) No other composer I know of, those two included, ever composed contrapunctally in the way we see in the Fugue.
But the Fugue is Bach all over.
blown away by the skill and expertise of this maestro, superb.
Fantastic 👍
Thank you for the amazing performance and for enriching this never ending source of joy that good music is.
Regards from Brazil 🇧🇷.

What a magnificent instrument. I can only imagine the years of practice it took to attain this level of mastery. Bravo!
God such a strong instrument, I go crazy when i hear the bass..this is the best
Kevin M me too
10 years after, thank you for your performance, fantastic, simply fantastic.
Some months ago, I had a little chat with an accordionist who played the toccata and fugue, somewhere on the street. I said:
- The toccata itself may be not even from Bach, perhaps one of his pupils wrote it. But the fugue is definitely by Bach.
He smiled and said:
- That's right. The toccata is simply an improvisation.
As an encore, he went on to play the great fugue in G minor, BWV 452.
And Sergei is a fantastic musician!
This sounds better then an organ. Incredible!
Wow, when I close my eyes it sounds like a massive organ in a cathedral - wonderful playing. Thank you.
Great timing, catching all the notes, just madness.. and it's great
Only the people who understand the complexities of accordion playing can grasp the brilliance of this performance. It is miraculous to say tje least
@@guydaley can you play any musical instrument?

Wow, 😱. I can't believe this man is playing Toccata & fugue in a accordion.
Actually, he's playing La Cucaracha on the bagpipe.

Two great, even genius artists meet here - J.S.Bach and S. Teleshev. The mobile version of organ - unbelievable, but true - obviously.
Have just spotted this on CZcams. What a musician!! All from memory and so true to the score. Pure joy in listening to this rendition and respect for Mr.Teleshev.😀
Stunning performance by a master of his craft. I didn't realize the range and power of the instrument.
The instrument is a Russian button accordion called a bayan.
I've loved this brilliant performance for years. From around 7.30 on you'd swear Sergei is using his fingers and feet.
I swear I've watched this prob 50 times n the last year and every time I hear more and more things I didn't hear the last time this is my favorite version of this piece sounds so full and the sound quality is amazing can't thank you enough for taking the time to master and post such a fantastic preformance absolutely mind blowing thank you!
This is a superb musician playing a very difficult instrument with a piece of music written by one of true musical geniuses (Bach). Thanks and may you have many more musical moments please!
I am in awe of your gift. You are amazing.
Superbe...
You prove what a versatile instrument the accordion is by playing Bach's Toccata & Fugue the way I believe Bach would have wanted it played . congratulations .
I'm sorry to say I'm one of those who underestimated the accordion greatly! This is just astounding!
Sublime.........
Tremendous Sergei. That was wonderful! Thank you!
Danke, Sergej!
Amazing some of the sounds that come out of that instrument. Sometimes it sounds like a big church organ.
Big applause for the gentleman who plays
That's because it operates in pretty much the same manner. Music has to be written specifically for an accordion or a pipe organ if you want it to sound good on either.
Not all music sounds good on all instruments.
CerebralDreams - True. I tried playing this on a kazoo... not as good
nnnnnngggghhhh !!!!!!!!! =)))))))))))))))))
why so imprecise? The deep and long tones sounding like a church organ
I never knew this existed on the accordion, until I tripped across a random IG reel, but my god, this blows my mind.
It’s incredible.
Very very beautiful .At several points I had chills! I really can't imagine this done better. Bravo!
wow, that was simply amazing. No words could describe this level of accordion mastery.
This is a bayan, the most complex type of accordion and the most difficult to play. They have 105 treble notes and anywhere from 105-120 bass notes. There are also switches for combining registers on either side.
An organ that fits next to you in your car.
I have never heard of a bayan before. Is this primarily a Russian instrument? Or ist it just an instrument that is not very popular?
Patricia yes, this is the Stradivarius of Russian accordions! ENJOY! 🙋
Accordion

I find the technical requirements to be astonishing! Bravo!
I just love hearing a master player on an accordion.
I am an organist by training, and have enjoyed playing a number of very nice harmoniums. The tone of the accordion is not unlike that of the harmonium.
I was in tears by the time the final chords died. Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!
