- Two clips of TX5S on Clipperton Island. One from 15 meter CW, and one from 12 meter FT8. Given these two examples, which would you prefer to work TX5S on?
Transceiver: Icom IC-7610
Antenna: Mosley MP-33-NW
#TX5S
Excellent video Scott. Thank you for making it. I'm not a CW op, but such behaviour is still a huge shame. 73 VE3GKT
We see this bad behavior on many modes. I'm just getting tired of it...thank you for your support and 73! de WX0V
Pretty much same thing on SSB. I don’t mean on this particular dxpedition but on many others. I love your videos. Keep up the good work Scott. Steve NN2NN.
Yep, I agree; SSB ain't much better, sadly to say. There was some DQRM on my 10m SSB video of TX5S, but no where near like it was here. Also of note; this DQRM video here was done in ONE TAKE (after trying for over 20 minutes to get a good 3 minute run)...kinda says it all. 😔 73! de WX0V
Excellent video
Just showing the difference as I was seeing it. I wish CW operations would have less DQRM but that has been going on forever. 73! de WX0V
Cool video scott!!73!!
I missed this comment so sorry for the delay, David...thank you!
for as much as I dislike FT8 I agree with you. the situation has really got out of hand in the last years.
Agreed. Both FT8 and CW ops should be on common ground here on this issue...glad to see there's another out there that would prefer things improve. Thanks for your comment and 73! de WX0V
In all my years in and out of the hobby, I've never witnessed DQRM like this in the past...it's soooo outta hound
DQRM has been there forever, of course, but I agree with you; it sure seems to have ramped up notably as of late. It makes no sense...why would they do this? They are literally shoving more and more to FT8...oh well...73! de WX0V
P.S. TX5S Qs as of 1515z on 1/23/24;
FT8 - 22,655
CW - 9,998
*EIGHT* FT8 streams in one signal?!?!?!?!?!?!!
Well, not actually. I use JTDX, which divides each call sign into a separate line. WSJT-X will send two calls in a line, so it may have been just 4 streams. Regardless of the software used, TX5S was working 8 stations simultaneously. 73! de WX0V
Sadly accurate and the same experience here on the rock to.
"Sadly accurate" is right on the money. No CW operator should be happy with this clip (and I am also a CW op), but the reality is CW DXing is in decline, and behavior like we see here is not helping. Thank you for your comment and 73! de WX0V
Im sure ssb just as bad
Why do those (more ons) do this ?
...because they get away with it. When you reward bad behavior, you're going to get more of it, unfortunately. 73, my friend de WX0V
No issues with ft8 because its not a human doing it.
It would then seem that machines are better behaved than humans...at least in this example they are...😎

This video is a short clip of the same sort of selfish behavoir that we had to put up with in Macau, spending over four thousand Euros to fly to the other side of the world. Having driven from France to Madrid in Spain for over 30 hours (round-trip) on my own, to then fly out with my Spanish friends (having been together on our C37N expedition) and have some jackass do this is what put an end to me going on DxPeditions.
I watched the clip. Just lovely to have that Jackwagon pull that. During 3Y0J, some parasite dropped a key-down carrier on their 30m CW signal for 10 minutes. Wish there was an effective way to find these losers and have the local authorities remove them from the air, but that's pie-in-the-sky thinking. However, there is FT8 for an alternative now, as shown here. Thank you for your previous DX efforts...XX9 is good DX for just about everyone. 73! de WX0V
Still rather do CW. As for DXpeditions, covering every square inch of the world with RF is overrated. Some DXpeditions are even costly affairs done in inhabited countries. Why not spend some of that money developing ham radio in those countries?
I agree. I'm not much interested in talking to a brit that setup his kit in another country. Not very exiting to me for DX. Uninhabited places sure I get it but if there is locals, that's who I want to talk too.
I'm with you on your preference for CW (318 confirmed DXCC on CW), that is part of why the bad behavior frustrates me. That said, if it's a choice between dealing with the CW crap shown on this video, and FT8, I'll go with FT8.
I'm mostly a DXer so I have no issues with DXpeditions, but your point of how to better spend the resources is very much on point. We are seeing some of that with the recent ET3AA operations. Thanks for your comment and 73! de WX0V
@@chublez I'll chat with Brits no matter where they are...usually excellent QSOs! 73! de WX0V
Thanks for another cool video. I appreciate the raw, unblinking look at CW. VY 73 DE KA8SYV
...of course Frank, you know I do ❤ CW...that's one of the reasons I put this out. We need Space Cat to find these bad actors and spray their gear 😼...for sure...take care and 73! de WX0V
