  • In this video we dive into the groundbreaking RM Noise software, a must-have tool for all HF ham radio operators.
    RM Noise is an innovative software designed to significantly reduce noise in HF (high-frequency) ham radio transmissions using AI. This video provides an in-depth look at how RM Noise enhances your radio operations by filtering unwanted static and interference, ensuring clearer and more reliable communication. I’ll be demonstrating its use with the Icom 7300 in this video.

    I use NVIDIA Broadcast on my GPU to remove noise. It's magic. AMD has one too if you gave a recent AMD computer with an APU or a Radeon card. No internet required. There is an open source version called noise-suppression-for-voice. Not as good, but also offline.

    • @K0LWC
      @K0LWC  Před 5 měsíci

      So it can accomplish the same thing only locally? Whenever I think of Broadcast I’m thinking about improving sound for livestreams, etc. But I’m curious on how it compares to the neural network that is trained on RF noise - if it can do noise reduction on audio from the radio locally that is.

    • @ZiggleFingers
      @ZiggleFingers Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@K0LWC yes its all local. It is a neural net AI as well. It sounds better than RM noise to me as I think it reconstructs part of the voice that may be missing. ModernHam here on CZcams has a video with timestamped demo's of NVIDIA Broadcast and the opensource one I mention in a video titled "Using Noise Suppression AI on Ham Radio to Remove Static"

      RM Noise is pointless if it requires an internet connection to operate! Might as well use the internet to perform the original communication. Same goes for FT8 which uses the internet to synchronise the communication. Thank you for mentioning NVIDIA Broadcast and alternatives! If RM Noise was provided as an app, they clearly wouldn't need to pay for servers. RM Noise is clearly a bit of a scam.

    I heard a guy using an Anan 7000 something with & I think without Thetis. Thetis runs on your pc. I think. But, the second vid I watched he didn't use Thetis. He had Horrible powerline noise. As do I. If I need to, I will buy a new Anon. That's how bad my noise is. His sounded exactly the same, but I don't know if his level of noise was as high as mine is. I worked with PGE last summer and the chaged out at least 3 arrestors that were bad. Unfortunately I have more bad equipment from PGE. It's a very long story.
    It takes forever to first pinpoint the bad equipment but depending on many factors, getting them to fix it can be tough. If I can I would like to cut the power company out of my noise loop.
    Now.....for RM noise. Not that I need to of course, but I'm confused as to why I shouldn't include the problem noise in the sample. Don't they need to "hear" the real noise in order to progam the AI properly? I will of course follow the instructions. I just loke to know hiw things work if possible.
    I am also open to try noise phasing hardware. Unfortunately the highest quality unit I'm finding is the DX Engineering NCC II . There are less expensive units. But the NCC is $950.00. And that doesn't include the high quality plug in modules. I just bought a FTdx101MP about 2 years ago. I LOVE THE RADIO. But I sure like the interface on the Anan better.
    There only only one for sure outcome though. I ABSOLUTELY MUST ELIMINATE THE POWERLINE NOISE. I had a noise free winter last year. I did my first long path contact & my first Antarctica contact. Not to mention an uptick in just tons of great easier to work DX like Israel & Afghanistan.
    I hope we can touch bases a bit. I'm very excited about doing SOMETHING to mitigate that horrible poweline noise.
    Take care,

      Yaesu's NR is pretty darn good - but it's not AI-based. It's some unique engineering where it has a hybrid direct-sampling and analog receiver that really helps it accel above what we have in the Icom 7300.
