To answer two comments here : John Norris does say his "second major label album". We all know Odelay is really his 4th, or 7th, album - depending how many early tapes you want to count. And the song at 1:40 is "Corvette Bummer" which is on the B side of the Loser EP.
(sorry 8 years later) but I think he means maybe first Major release on a major label like DGC... plus One Foot In The Grave was recorded before but put out after , Stereopathetic Soulmanure came out before but was on flipside a smaller indie label so technically this was his debut to basically the whole world but stuff like Soulmanure and Western Field weren't counted...
Marizuana is no drug and Beck and weed make perfect sense. He says he doesn't do things but I dunno, some of his lyrics feel real which some can bring upon a drug passe.
hibert boogus I mean, beck stated himself he doesn’t take drugs. He went so far to state that drugs have nothing to do with creativity and I don’t know why he would lie and state something as opinionated as that. Just because he has creative lyrics means he takes drugs?
"After we bought some 1664 beer with the loose coins we'd acquired, the others either went off with some girls they met or to some anonymous bush for a hash session. I found myself alone, picking on some ragtime..."
"I encourage it (line dancing) actually, but there's a danger in organized dancing" hahahaha- He cracks me up.
If MTV (Viacom) had any brains whatsoever, they’d create some sort of MTV History CZcams channel where they upload and stream old content like this.
I love his sense of humor
Omg I've never seen this! Brilliant! Really adore Beck
MTV was so cool
Orale..
orale..
It's a..
It's orale..
Quite a Sea Org reference there . . . LRH garb and everything.
Nowadays his subversion is more submerged in the meaning of the lyrics.
I remember watching this live on mtv

It's actually Soul suckin Jerk - Reject, from the same EP
There is a very thin line between genius and insanity, and the drugs don't help the situation...
He's a lot of both. I feel like you can't have one without a little of the other.
ExposingZionistEvil From what I heard Beck didn’t do drugs. And has always been against drugs.
@@ANCUTTER yeah same he just had a great personality
Odelay is sheer genius
Midnite Vultures is a classic
ron hubbard dress style
@1:40 I know that bassline from somewhere! It's going to bug me all day now. Maybe it's a Joy Division song?

Plus Beck is, and for most of his life has been, a Scientologist. A church that is very open on their anti-drug stance
JSYK,Odeley is Spanish 🇪🇸 for "Right On".
It’s actually “Órale” and it’s a 🇲🇽 mexican expression... not really 🇪🇸
