    Thank you brother. I am closing on a property here in Utah and going to be building my own home. I would pay you to come consult me on how to do some of these things if you were closer.

    Nice work!! How would you mount a ceiling fan on an already constructed porch like yours? Thanks and keep Making these videos. Missy

      Thank you Missy!
      if you are going to mount a ceiling fan on a porch roof like mine, you can either surface mount or remove ceiling and install wire and ceiling box. Depends of if you have electric nearby or not. Many times one can tap power of an exterior from the inside and run conduit with wire in it to the ceiling. Once electric is in the ceiling, you can install heavy duty light box and wire to it. It does require more work to remove and reinstall ceiling, but looks much better!
      Hopefully this helps you!

    Curious as to what you were saying that the music replaced. Expletives?

      I was trying to explain some things....but the wind in the video made it so I had to mute it.

    Can you show how you finished the corner and tied it in with the eave?

    Thanks for the video. Would using screws vs staples to attach the soffit be overkill? I have been looking for lightweight material to cover insulation on my living room & master bedroom vaulted ceilings. Soffit sounds like an inexpensive, lightweight material to use, you agree? I know it's a little unusual to use soffit but I'm ok with the look. My vaulted ceilings are basically the roof up there with no insulation & my condo unit is on the south east side of the building in Southern California so I get the direct morning sun to about 2p so very warm to hot much of the year.

      Your welcome, thank you!
      Screws would work just fine for a ceiling! I would recommend getting a small enough screw to land in the v grooves in the panels to be less noticable. Also you could use steel panels as well, like corrugated, just another idea. It might be worth putting some insulation up in the rafters as installing your ceiling, it will help regulate the temperature.

    if you were to do with this 1x4 t&g wood, is there a j channel for something like that? also what about venting it?

    • @buildingwithjosh
      @buildingwithjosh  Před 3 lety

      Good question. To my knowledge, they don't have a j channel for 1x4 wood material. Usually the siding goes right up to the soffit in this case, one could trim it out with a 1x2 as well.
      To vent a wood soffit, you can cut in individual vents like 4x16" spaced evenly apart, or use what's called a strip vent

    how much it could cost for that type of front porch?

    • @buildingwithjosh
      @buildingwithjosh  Před 4 lety +2

      Mine cost maybe around 4,000-4,500 in materials but my beam was pricey. My glulam beam was over 1,000 by itself. If you did more posts and conventional lumber you could save yourself some money.

    Sorry Josh it is hard to see what you are doing or referring to when the camera man is pointing the camera in the down position.

      Thanks for the feedback, I apologize for the video being difficult to follow. There was a difficulty working on the uneven ground grade at the time.

  • @frederickleutzinger1114

    It would have been a big help if the camera hadn't bounced around so much. It gave me a headache.

    What’s the math of this ? I’m doing planning and estimating what would be the math to calculate how much wood you need for the soffit and fascia.

    • @buildingwithjosh
      @buildingwithjosh  Před 3 lety

      I might need a little more information to understand what you are trying to accomplish.
      Are you framing a soffit and fascia in wood and the wrapping them in metal? Or are you doing a finished wood soffit and fascia?
      Let me know and maybe I can help you out.
