Shannon from www.house-improvements.com shows you how to install soffit and fascia on your next home improvement DIY project. - Jak na to + styl
You are what the construction industry needs more of; You are a man who takes pride in what he does and approaches your craft in a professional manner. Thank you for all the informative videos.
I'm in the construction trades and always enjoy watching this guy because he seems so real, down to earth and unpolished. I mean that in a good way.
Thanks for the tips! What impressed me the most was this video was put up 6 years ago, and he still comes to comment section to answer questions to this day. That is something you never see, props to you Shannon your a good guy!

Now 10 years
Now 12 years😂
Paying dividends. Love this. Hope your business continues to do well!!
No bs straight to the point, plesent and modest guy.
Shannon,
Thank you so much for this! Love your show! Never did a repair in my life until I started watching your videos. It's saving us a ton of money on our old, new home.
Thank you for the tip on screwing the J channel in from the bottom. I was going to cut 200ft of wood strips to nail them to. I didn't want to buy F channel since I already have hundreds of J channel pieces I got for free. you can tell that you really do this for a living, and are not just a company rep making a product video.
Hey Shannon, great videos man! Helped me get through my garage build! thanks for the helpful tips, because sometimes the hardest part of a project is getting started and your videos are a great push in the right direction!
Thank you so much for producing this great video. I appreciate it so much. I have to redo the soffit and fascia on my garage and I was having a hard time getting motivated to do it because I had never done one and this is going to be just what I need in order to do it properly. I am going to get out there right now and get hammering......:) Thank you again.!!!!! Barb.
It's been said a million times but seriously, your videos are fantastic. You explain things very well and it's greatly appreciated. I've viewed many of your videos for guidance and always feel confident I do things and do them well after I watch them. Keep up the great work and again, thank you very much.
Shannon, you're a true craftsman and I really appreciate the time and effort you took to share your knowledge. Excellent job.
Nice work, Shannon. Your vids are fabulous.
One of the best channels on CZcams for this kind of video.
Thank you
Thanks Shannon- Over the years I've learned alot from your videos. This one in particular really helped me. Thank You
Awesome video! I've done a lot of renos but have yet to do soffit. Went from being very unsure to very confident in 15 mins. Thanks for the detailed vids!
Thanks for your videos. The instructions are very clear and easy to follow. My husband and I built a garage this summer with the help of your videos. We are novices and couldn't have built the garage without your instructional videos. The garage looks great! Thank you!
Fantastic, thank you. That trick with bending the soffit up at the corner is a great tip, I'll definitely be doing that on our project as well.
Truly excellent. Every little detail was covered including how to make the fascia cover almost magically hold itself up until nailing it. I may be putting up new soffits for spring Break now!
Thanks Mr. Shannon, your awesome videos helped so much and saved me piles of cash and time.
Checking the fascia for square is a HUGELY important tip, otherwise it'll get crooked and then you've got problems. I love how you do the corners too! A tip on house wrap I didn't realize until after - line up the marks on it with studs! It will make siding installation much easier.
Also in my experience, get help installing the fascia - it flexes vertically incredibly easily and the upper edge can get caught on anything sticking out on your fascia board. Then if you don't see it and put screws in, it bends and looks crummy.
Before installing security camera, I want to know the structure of the under-roof and exterior wall to run the cables. This video gives me very good answer. Thank you Shannon.
I wish I had hidden my cameras under my soffit. Since they are 4K cameras and standard size, people think my house is a security compound. But at least they are easy to access if I need to and I can also redirect them. I don't think I could get any with optical zoom, or with much maneuverability, that are in a dome or smaller format.
I appreciate all your videos. I like how your very honest and transparent about the projects you do. Very informative. Your a great teacher.
Very good demonstration. I haven't installed in decades. Was a good refresher, thanks for showing.
Thanks Jason looking forward to seeing your video.....oh ya, you don't have one thats why you are watching mine.
Everyone does things slightly different, this is how I was shown as an apprentice and thats how I do it.
Gotta love the people who have no "how to" videos, than tell you everything you did wrong. Thank you for your videos. Please keep them coming.
Lol that was savage 🤣. Tell them how it is😂
Lol , Don't know where you think you see drywall screws being used but there are none used here. Thanks for watching!
Dont like that corner. The rainwater is going to travel down that gable facia and go behind the gutter facia aluminum wrap water behind there cant lead to anything good
@@VoteBlueNov.2024 What would you suggest?
@@soulmist2163 Perhaps do the outer (lower) one first, and then the one that goes up the roof... that way the lower one folds under the one that comes down from the roof, so rainwater can't flow inside anything. Probably will be fine for a long time either way though.
what kind of screws am i supposed to use?
I have been a bit of a handyman for many years but I always learn something useful from your videos. Thanks for posting!
EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED! MY FASCIA ITS ALL OPEN AND I WAS WONDERING HOW TO DYI IT! THANKS!
I recently became a secretary for a construction company mainly dealing with roofing and gutters so I've been looking for videos that would help me better understand exactly the difference between soffit, fascia, leaders etc. being that I had no prior construction experience. Just wanted to say thank you for this video, you are a great teacher and extremely easy to understand, I really enjoy your tutorials. Almost make it look as though even I could do it ;) Thanks again!
11:01 Oh man I forgot my drill. CLASSIC!!!!
Awesome video, as always. Just ran across an issue while installing soffit on my toolshed and you, Shannon, helped me tremendously, and not the first time either. Thanks for your work!
Yet another excellent instructional video, Shannon. Great job. Thank you.
If you do measure ahead and find one length will work, stack a few sheets of soffit together, clamp the edges with vice grips so they stay lined up, and cut through them all at once with a thin cutoff wheel on your grinder. Saves oodles of time on a big job. The Skill saw with blade backwards trick works too but it sends metal shards everywhere and will often bend corners as Shannon mentioned. AWESOME video as always!
can I just use a normal trigger clamp or two? also wouldn't the vise-grip leave some dents in one of the soffits a bit?
Or you can use a metal cutting Skill saw blade.
Thanks for the great videos couldn't do it without you!
Thanks Chris
+1 on that :)
This and That with Ch booris
Have never worked with aluminum or vinyl covering materials before but your video explained things so well I will give it a try thanks.
This video is 10 years old and I've referred back to it a few times. Thanks for the sharing.
really good job man. getting ready to do that chore.
Good luck
awesome instructions, and ignore the haters! great vid
Thank you for your video. It made it easy to convince my husband we need this & it wouldn’t be too hard for us. 😊👍🏼
Thanks, I'm a descent pipe fitter but not to good at making home improvements the right way. I appreciate you taking the time to help.
oh man you're amazing thank for teaching people the easy way.
your welcome
HouseImprovements can you use soffin as a siding i have a mobile home just wondering
@@HouseImprovements - Hey Shannon, can one put the J-channel onto the 2" rigid foam exterior XPS, by using longer screws? I want to extend the foam all the way up to insulate to the roofline.
Thank you for the Vid. Very helpful.
Wow...are you ever good at what you do...you hand coordination is fantastic...and the info was really extensive...you're a real asset to the buildind trade...
Hey, listen. I really appreciate you taking the time to do this. I had a general idea about how to accomplish this and you sure as hell cleared it up. I really feel confident that I can handle this myself. Saving me thousands of dollars.
I would love to work with you! your like the Yoda of home improvements!
thank you
Nice and clean work.
His was alright the roofer was a hack.
Thanks for the videos! I'm a big DIYer, and I have learned alot from them and saved myself big bucks doing the work myself!
Thanks Shannon I have some fascia & soffit work that needs to be done and now feel much more comfortable in tackling this job myself. I always enjoy your videos.
gotta love the critics, good job as always Shannon......
Always some critics
ouch!!!!
Russell, Where is the link to your How To Install Soffit And Fascia video?
I know, these guys and gals spend a lot of time making a video. It is not polite to diss their hard work...
Russell, the truth is that you are damaging your blood vessels to the extent of posing catastrophic risk. Don’t have a stroke. You are trying to educate people, but your legitimacy has been destroyed by your particular use of language.
Eve trough. AKA rain gutters.
Canadia eh?
12 year old video and still the best one 👍
Thanks alot Shannon, youre the best on CZcams I have found my fellow Canuck! Much appreciated
Shannon, great job! but it would have been nice to have seen the J-Channel being installed. I don't mean to offend you, but sometimes you take for granted the audience is more experienced than some of us are. All CZcams demonstrators never seem to manage to have any difficult jobs they are willing to show a person how to do, or show anything out of the obvious simple projects. Please don't be offended. It is meant as constructive criticism. Been over 40 years since I have done any of this and a lot has changed. Now I am trying to build my daughter a house and learning from you. Keep up the good work. We appreciate you! Thanks.
I do the same thing. I get it up there and forget my drill/tool on the ground.
Robert Clark tape measures and utility knives. I try to begin each job with a quantity of 2 tape measures so that I can save (a little) frustration.
Thank you SO MUCH for your help!
This is the absolute best video/resource online for understanding soffit and facia!
Thank you for cutting the stress out of my Friday just when I needed it most. You’re amazing.
This was excellent. It makes the 'chore' simple. Thank-you!
Ok so lets get this straight... People who are giving negative feedback and saying this isnt good, WHY ARE YOU WATCHING THIS IF YOU ALREDY KNOW HOW TO DO THIS SHIT
Everybody knows youtube is a douche magnet.
you are a true Profesional not only the ways to accomplish the task at hand but also verbally explaining how to. i appreciate the straight forward information .thank you
Because the reason they know how to do this stuff is that they watched multiple perspectives. I'm one of those guys. I've installed tons of this stuff, but I'm always interesting in seeing what other people are doing. This guy makes a lot of mistakes. He clearly hasn't seen how most people do this.
awhodothey, how do you do it? Care to contribute something of value? I'm looking forward to seeing your video.
Steven Darden
This is nowhere near a correct way of doing this. I don't have time to write up all the reasons you should not follow this video, but a glimpse at the other comments should tell you some basics. My contribution is to warn you not to follow this. You're probably better off googling and reading about it rather than watching videos. And really that would be my advice: do what this guy has never done and research different techniques and you'll figure out why people do things differently. That goes for anything you want to do well. You are never going to do a good job at anything following the first random guy teaching you on the internet. Shop around.
"Oh man, I forgot my drill" 'then the first bit falls off' HOW MANY TIMES DOES IT HAPPEN TO US AND WE DON'T LEARN!
I think he was putting the screw on the bit and trying to screw it into the board and the screw fell off, so he got another.
Can't hear a word your saying
Thanks. As a subcontractor i use tips and tricks from everyone. I damaged some soffit the other day installing aome seamless gutter. This video helped me do a perfecr repair. I might get into thw soffit business now too!
Been building a 18x24 garage and your videos from tyvek to soffit/fascia have been a great help. Thanks so much.
good to hear
im no carpenter but you def wrapped it the wrong way all the water coming from the gable is going to run behind that piece
Brandon Henderson could use some sealant at joint
that corner looks like pig shit, not a clean way to do that, you are fired
You have no idea how helpful this was. Thank you!
Im a new home owner who bought a major fixer upper and have been learning as I go. I ripped apart our rotted edge boards of our garage yesterday and this video here pretty much has me all set to finish it up after work this afternoon. Thanks!
This video was massively helpful as I am about to do the soffit and fascia on my shed. Thanks for a great video!
Hey Shannon. Thank you for the videos. I'm a pretty decent DIYer and found your videos add extra detail and thoroughness when I have questions regarding my own projects. Keep up the awesome work and thanks again! Cheers.
You are so welcome!
I am a home remodeler been disabled for quite a while these videos have helped me so much to remember how to do the job right I really appreciate all the different videos I like your style you helped me to be a master of Jack of all trades thanks fellas great job on your videos all of them
Looks like I have to do my fascia this weekend thanks to some wind damage we had. This video is a HUGE help. Thanks for the post.
Honestly thank you for your video, even over a decade has passed and people like me still use it for my small dyi projects.
Thanks Shannon by learning from your videos I saved thousands of dollars, and also learned a new skill, keep up the good job, and thanks again.
Thank you. I went through about 10 videos looking for this one, that matches the roof I am doing.
This answered so many questions. Beyond helpful. Thank you!
Very informative video. I now know what is underneath soffit and fascia, and feel confident locating something solid to hang flower baskets from. Thank you!
I've never seen that detail done that way before, where the soffit meets the other soffit, you kept the facia at 6" the whole way. Looks very neat! I'm going to do mine that way.
Thank You so much for taking the time to make this video!....I have had a problem with contractors starting a job and then wanting more money than what they; quoted me to finish the job.....We will have to finish the job ourselves, it seems....You make it look so easy.....I just wish I could have hired you to do the job to begin with.....I appreciate this......
u will need to know how to build a soffit box===i have requested it already

Another grateful person about to attempt this in the next day or so and seeing how you did the corner was exactly what i wanted to know. Awesome!
Solid video. Thank you for not losing your cool when the screw didnt go in.
This is helpful! I'm installing a new piece of fascia for my mom today that got blown off in a storm. I appreciate the well explained video
Fantastic!
Great Video. I have watched a number of your videos and they have all been helpful because you show step by step, assuming nothing. The internet has become my own free contractor's college.
Thanks for the good instruction video, you make it look easy. Glade to see I'm not the only one that forgets the drill and has problem screws.
Wow, after watching other video's that were more confusing than helpful, I hit your's & you are an expert @ doing the job, but even better you are a fantastic teacher that presents every step clearly. How you teach/explain the process is everything. You are a great teacher & contractor. Thank you so much for your clear, simple & straight-forward way of explaining how to install soffit, fascia & j-trim. THANX!!!
Glad to help out!

Thank you this was super educational! I feel confident to try and tackle this job now!
I'm a 62-year-old female, and still a DIY-er; my shed needs this, only 12 feet on both sides; I studied the build of it for days to figure out how, then I watched this; most excellent video.
Wonderful tutorial. I was able to do mine with no problems after watching your great video. Thank you very very much.
Glad it worked out well for you
Thank-you Shannon. I've watched several of your videos. You are very professional & informative. Keep up the great work!

10 years later, this video has helped a lot!
Great video. Audio was a little low at times, but this gave me the confidence to tackle this job on my own and hopefully save some money! Thank you!
Run a white silicon on the corner, caulk always turns brown if you don’t paint it. Great video! Thanks for taking the time to make it!
