- This is a review and unboxing for the new 40th anniversary edition of Def Leppard’s classic 1983 third studio album Pyromania. The new edition is a 4 CD and 1 BluRay boxset. There is also a 2 CD edition available.

Great I -depth Information on Def Leppard and the box set. Mine came in the mail Friday hopefully today I can sit down and give it a listen, can’t wait to go thru that book as well.
Thanks for posting this. I was on the fence about buying this release, as I have a few copies of Pyromania, but this looks like a great reissue!

Unbelievable, how many great albums are turning 40 this year! Brothers in arms (Dire Straits), Born in the USA (Bruce Springsteen), The works (Queen, with 'I want to break free)...they will stand the test of time for another 40 years!
Between 'Rocka rolla', Judas Priest's debut album and their brandnew 'Invincible shield' are 50 years! Anazing, too!

@@alexvigil29 You know, after this quick exchange, I got curious how man co-writing credits Pete/Rick/Bruce Willis had on Pyromania, right? He had three INCLUDING PHOTOGRAPH. So, I am guessing that’s why Pete hasn’t had to do some sad tour like “Pete Willis’ Def Leppard Experience!”
Great review. I'm actually most excited about the Blu-Ray Audio. Can't wait to hear the intro to Die Hard the Hunter in Dolby Atmos. Also, that Dortmund CD is from a show that is some of the best audio and video we have from the Pyromania tour on CZcams. Look up "DEF LEPPARD - Live In Germany: Part 1 (Rockpop In Concert, 18.12.1983) OFFICIAL" and there is also a Part 2.

I think I'm going to take your advice and get the 2 cd version and 2009 2 cd version separately, which will give me the rarities and the live concert with the remastered album. Also thinking about getting a couple of live concert cd/dvd sets as well to include in my collection. I have most of their studio albums and Rock of Ages Compilation, so these additions would be cool.
I saw Def Leppard in Sunnyvale, California just when Rick Allen was coming back from his accident and was playing his modified drum set. Truly amazing for Rick to have come overcome his disability to just as great and the band to give him the time and support he needed to accomplish that. This band are full of heroes in my book. When I first heard them before the release of the first album, I knew they were destined to be great. I have not been disappointed ever since.

Good for fans and collectors. I have all the lps from the first one(my favorite) til adrenalize. Not a big fan of them but totally respect their legacy.
My first concert was seeing them at the Forum that year. I believe they played two nights and if not mistaken Uriah Heep opened. Glad to know they recorded one of those shows. I’ll have to look for the 10 year dbl disc.
You mean the 25th anniversary edition? There was no 10 year double disc. The live at the LA Forum show you can get 3 ways; this new box, the CD Collection Vol. 1, and the 25th Anniversary edition…which is out of print.

The instrumental version on the blu ray is excellent and alone worth the $100 I spent on the deluxe CD box set.

It was Pete Willis not Rick Willis that appeared on The EP, On Through, High N Dry, & Pyromania.
Pete Willis was not on Pyromania. Phil Collen was.

I've been scratching my head as how this album is getting the 40 year anniversary celebration when it came out in 1983, hmm. And I saw them in Sept of 1983 for this tour. Maybe 1984 is when this album became big? Weird.
Pressing plants are backed up & you have a handful of mastering engineers remastering everything. Its a bottleneck right for vinyl and getting worse.
Now I need a CD player ..got used to digital stuff
I really hope that Bon Jovi can do some in-depth stuff like this I know the New Jersey box was great, but they seemed to abandon doing things like that. I know there is plenty of b sides, especially when they exploded in Europe tons of cd singles had bonus content. Though years ago they did remastering they should do much more, how "Slippery" didnt get something I have no idea, and the 40th for the debut just being digital and not very thought out was an odd thing.
Have you watched the documentary on Hulu yet called Thank You, Goodnight? All through the 4 episodes it shows Jon going through archiving cassettes of old recordings that have never been released. I’m hoping it’s because they’re working on a big boxset. But also keep in mind they already released the 4 CD boxset called 100,000,000 Bon Jovi Fans Can’t Be Wrong which featured all unreleased songs. That’s quite a vault clearing.

@@BrendonSnyder Yes I watched it all and saw all that I am hopefully they do something like that. The doc was very very interesting with the whole Sambora thing, I also find it odd he releases new songs as this doc hits streaming, but I can tell there is a lot of issues in bringing in Shanks and really taking his part away on the "What About Now" record mainly the song "Fighter" for me I am not a fan of that record and honestly I can side with Richie on that and how he felt about it, I agree his opinions may have put other band members "off" a bit but I do agree that album was a mess most of the time, a few good songs just overloaded.
It's a cool box. One correction - the essay in the book is written by PAUL Elliott - and not singer Joe Elliott.

I hope Scorpions release a 40th edition for Love at First Sting.
They already have a deluxe edition with unreleased songs though. There's some great stuff on there. But I would definitely check out a 40th.
The rough tracks are interesting. I've noticed the keyboards are more prominate especially Die Hard. For $100 I don't think its worth it unless you're a big collector.
Did COVID push everything back a year or two? Pyromania came out in 83, ACDC formed in 73, and they're putting out 50th Anniversary stuff, and Machine Head came out in 72, and it's having a 50th Anniversary celebration in its 52nd year of existence. The math ain't mathing, and it's worrisome since REO Speedwagon release Wheels Are Turnin' in 84, so they'll either re-release it for its 40th Anniversary either this year, next year, or in 2026.
No lots of bands seem to be doing their anniversary releases one year late. GNR is another one that’s released its albums one year past. I’m sure there is some logic to it, meaning it’s truly been 40 years and not released while it’s still 39 turning 40 or something like that.
It did push a lot of things out though definitely

@@JIF882 No, he didn’t say anything to that effect at all… And it’s all so very easy to come up with convenient excuses after the fact to explain away what he meant to say or didn’t say in the moment, but the fact of the matter is, in pointing out other key bands and artists that “Mutt” Lange had previously worked with (or would one day collaborate with), @BrendonSnyder neglected to acknowledge the obvious-that Def Leppard themselves had literally just worked with him on their previous album! But, of course, Brendon knew that already!! He just chose not to say it, nor did he opt to put it in his notes that he constantly looks down at. I’m just taking what the architect says too “literally”… Silly me.
Based on your review, I don't think the rarities are all that great. Then again, I'm not a fan of demos anyways. But, I think the book looks really cool and I love the pictures inside!

I am the biggest Def Leppard fan around and I of course bought this set. However, I am very disappointed. For what we get new, its not worth 90 bucks...Your basically paying 40 bucks for a book...lol
Good album but it would have been way better if mutt Lang would have recorded real drums. He programmed all the drum tracks .

Hey buddy 👍, Rick played all the tracks but mutt dumped them and re programmed them , only the cymbals are real . Details aside , Ive always not liked the synthetic sound of the drums on that record . Compare to high and dry it's not good . I'm saying this as a hard core early Leppard fan . Anyway , there great tunes and I grew up listening to that album big time.
A poor anniversary set imo. Cheap CDs and half the material already released in other sets. Why nor feature a live set from their home town? Would have made a much better set on Vinyl. Including a nice picture disc to hang on the wall. I will pass on this one.
What difference does it make where they play live? Two concerts were included. My guess is there isn’t a show from their home town or anywhere else for that matter or they would have included it over the LA Forum show since it had already been released.
@@BrendonSnyder So, the mighty Def Leppard have only ever recorded this show? They must have hundreds of recordings, from around the world, even I have several. Maybe I should give the boys a call and offer them some archive material, LOL.
