I think Coach Saban knew that the program had slipped in the last 2-3 years. The constant penalties, usually at the most inopportune times, the inability of the Offensive line to protect the QB, the defense being less than the sum of its parts. Alabama has not been the best program in America since 2020, and it probably wasn't going to recapture that glory under Coach Saban, as painful as it is to admit that. I always hoped he could get to 20 years and retire around 75, but that was just selfish. He sounds a lot happier now.
