- Time to get the '54 to shop to get this restoration started! Had to put some decent tires on her and get her on a trailer. Several family members came to help send her off. Family friend and dad's cousin, Jimmy Walker, is going be the guy in charge of the restoration. His shop is about 30 miles north of us. This video is of us getting the truck ready and delivered to his shop.

Long story short, my grandmother gave me her 1953 Ford F100 pick up, 50th anniversary edition with 73,000 original miles on it all numbers matching, ran fine was used to haul leaves in the fall for several years that’s what grandma used it for. She saved this truck for me for over 20 years. I lived in Phoenix, and she lived in the St. Louis area. By the way I love cars and trucks. I was married and had saved my money to have the truck transported to Phoenix from St. Louis,I had the truck shipped to me and started to restore it, but didn’t have the money or the time at the time, oh my dad who also loves cars and trucks had just retired ,and I figured he needed something to do so I signed the truck over to him, no money exchanged and After dad and I rented a U-Haul trailer and used his other truck we spent two days car trailer hauling it back to St. Louis where my dad lives. Dad did a two year frame off rotisserie restoration of the truck, and it turned out beautiful, the best part of the story is my grandmother seen the truck all taken apart in my dad‘s garage and said you’ll never get that back together in my lifetime and my dad did get it back together in her lifetime and she was the first one to ride in the truck after the restoration was complete And grandma said it was nicer than when she had bought it when it was one year old,that has been over 20 years ago my dad still has the truck and is going to will it back to me when he passes. My parents have had fun with the truck they’ve entered it in parades and auto shows.And the numbers matching truck now has about 79,000 miles on it.
It's an absolutely beatiful time capsule exactly as it is. If it's not too late to suggest it, maybe just start with a mechanical restoration and put some miles on it for a year. Whatever you decide to do with it, I'm happy for you and hope it becomes exactly what you want it to be.
I'm a Mopar guy myself, but i've always liked the old ford trucks. Its really cool what you're doing with it. im hopeful an update video is coming soon.

I hope we'll get a third episode from you all. Looking forward to seeing it. Was sad to part with my 1980 Chevy K10 (same year as me) last fall that had always taken a sticker. Didn't have the time to keep it going how it deserved, and a gal restarting their family farm needed a good farm truck and wanted to restore it like she did with her dad growing up. I knew he was going to a good home. I do miss Buhbuh.
This is not only one of the most impactful and emotional car videos I’ve ever seen, but it’s shot beautifully as well. They way you talk about your dad’s love for this truck, I’m sure he’s got a huge grin watching you give new life to it. Keep up the great work and can’t wait to see the finished result!
I subbed after watching the first video. What a fabulous job you are doing on the video production, from the footage to the narration, to the music. Its like watching art. You can really tell everything about this is a labor of love. Even mom pointing out the scratch she made all the years ago. I bet pop was none to pleased when that happened. As others have commented on both videos, please please leave this old girl as close to original as possible, dents, scratches and all. Repairing and painting over moms scratch would be akin to filling in and welding the crack on the Liberty Bell and I think once all the battle scars are gone, you will miss them terribly. I cannot wait for the next installment.

OMG... I'm sitting here with tears rolling down my face watching this! Please don't change that paint! Every scratch holds a memory. I love this and it makes me miss my dad! He had a F100 Unibody that I grew up in. I'd give anything to have it! At the 1:35 mark of this video, I completely lost it! Absolutely awesome!
I have the same truck with a nearly identical story. My father-in-law bought his 1954 F100 at the local Ford dealership in Pawnee City, Nebraska. It's a straight six, though. Used it on the farm for years, drove it back and forth to California several times, etc. It was last licensed in 1982. Being up here in the rust belt, to say it's in worst shape than yours is a huge understatement. I look at the clean metal on your dad's old truck and it makes me envious. I don't have the money to make it as nice as I want, but I will make it drivable, safe, and fun.

Great video! What a great tribute! A few years ago, I restored my dad’s first new car. A 1965 Plymouth that my dad stop driving in 1985. What a great time to stand with my dad and see my son and his new bride leave the church in my dad’s newly restored, old Plymouth.

The more I look at this truck the more I would rebuild it the same way Davin Reckow at Hagerty did his 1960 Chevy.
He wanted to not rebuild but put the truck back on the road.
It was a very interesting serie to watch this old truck come back to life.
This brings tears to my eyes. It's nice to see you guys keep the memory and legacy of your Dad and pass it on to the next generation.

Man, that thing is way too clean to justify a restoration, especially with all its sentimental value. Every mark on it is part of its story and history with your dad. Clean it up, fix any issues, and enjoy it just as it is.

My initial thought aswell. After seeing the pressurewashing in the first video and saw the result, it didnt really look like the car needed much fixing. Maybe wear'n'tear parts in the engine-room, brakes, oils, some dusting/cleaning of windows inside the car etc.. it looks very good for its age, hence standing dry under a roof since its last drive..
Nothing is better than original paint. I think it would be awesome to take care of all the problems and keep the original paint only if possible. Otherwise it would be amazing to see the truck brand new again.
They're only original once.

I can't wait for the rest of this series! I agree with the comments about fixing any serious metal issues and just clear coating it to preserve it and just getting it running. It's beautiful!
Been thinking of this series since day one of the second part. It is a shame that we never got a part 3 so far of this series. However, from what we have seen it is certainly a story to behold.
I would like to assume that it did get finished - and that they never got around to getting the video put together. That it is now in the family and well taken care of.
Regardless, the stories presented to us are something special and I am very grateful they were shared.
In 1950 my granddad got fed up with his Buick eight destroying transmissions and bought a 1950 ford sedan, I was 6 so it was my pleasure to ride in the backseat while we toured the country round. (Saskatchewan farm country) when I was fourteen he replaced that beauty with a two-door '56 ford sedan which I leaned to drive in. After that came the Mercury highway cruiser and I went away to sea for seven years. I got back from Vietnam in '68 and the family contracting firm was still using '54 Ford pickups and that was my ride until motorcycles took over. love what you're doing. Johnny Tripp
Man I love these early F100s. Had a few of them years ago. Lots more to the custom cab than the radio and dome light though. Bright trim around the windows, door panels, and(get this) the key hole on the drivers side door. Standard cab only had it on the passenger side.

Just come across this video. Don't think I would have done a full restoration. Only wiring deep clean. Engine seals etc. Nice set of tyres. Polished up the original paint work. Up rated brakes. Good storie about your dad and I guess you know what he would have wanted. Good luck with the build.

Working on my Grandfather’s 53 F-250 stake bed. Quite the ranch truck. Learned to drive it when I was 14.

I was very close to my Dad, also. (Actually, both of my parents of course). I wish I had one of my Dad’s trucks to do the same thing, but I’ll just live vicariously through your restoration of this one. I restored a 53’ Ford pickup. Someone had turned it into a 4x4 ditch runner. I stripped it down to the rubber tires. Went back all original. My hardest part was getting to the rear cab bolts and finding some glass for it. Took me 5 years for the restoration. I took my time and did the research. I would love to have posted some pictures of it, but they were lost in the house fire and the truck also. The house was insured, but the truck wasn’t. I did manage to collect a little money from it, but not enough to replace what I had put into it. I learned a lesson in making sure everything is covered under insurance when it’s on the property.
So nice of you to honor your dad like this. My dad had a 1965 Ford. Wish I had never of sold it. He had a little 7 acre farm 5 miles out of a little Louisiana. He spent his retirement years enjoying that farm and I have lots of fond memories going over on weekends to help him garden and work on fences. God bless. A Louisiana boy.
I think it's commendable of you to honor your dad by resurrecting and restoring his first-ever new truck. It's even more priceless that you have original old photos from the 1950s, of him and his truck. Always had a fondness for the Y-block OHV Ford V8s. I think '54 was the first year for the OHV Y-block. God bless you and your family for making this a reality.

Stock 1953 should be a 239 ci flathead. The 292 Y block didn't show up till 1955, not sure if it was offered in trucks.

I'm not sure anymore. I've had my '53 for 40 years and is pretty much bone stock (except for the color and now it is 12 volt). I thought I knew a lot about it. 1953 was the last year for the 239 flathead....so, I thought.
I've read that Canada made them through '55.
The French, I think, STILL make it or up until the early 90's!
The Y-Block came out in '54 but, I've read it was available in '53 as a 239 Y-Block.
I'll have to break out my shop manual tonight and see what it has.

I have also a Ford F100 ´54 in Restauration here in Germany. It was so much work, but when ist was Finish it was a nice Pick Up Truck. You will be lucky when your Dad´s Truck was finish for a great Honor to him.
From Australia. Guys great videos, your Dad will be extremely proud. I've owned a 1980 Australian XD Ford Falcon for almost 40 years. It was my first car I ever bought back in 1982. I bought my daughter home in it 30 yrs ago. Recently it was her wedding car that drove her to her new husband. My daughter and my 2 sons feel about the car as you do about your Dad's F100. I have to opportunity to my grandfathers 54 F100 inline 6 for purchase that's been sitting for 35 years in a shed. She's fairly rough but am considering. Fond memories of riding in the back of "the ole" truck on those hot summer TN days growing up. Definitely would love to see a part 3

This video brought back so many memories of me as a kid and our '53 with a flathead V8. Learned to drive a stick shift with that old truck back in '61 when I was 10 years old out in the pasture. Wish I had one now.

I subscribed for a couple reasons. First, I love the truck and will really enjoy watching it's resurrection. Second, and most important, I love the story. It is obvious that this is a labor of love, and that makes any project worth doing, but the love for your dad seems to be the biggest motivating factor for this restoration. That alone will make this worth following. I would also like to comment on what a wonderful job you have done on the two videos I watched. You have provided both a visual and audio storyline that allows the viewer an informative and relaxed experience. Most of us love nostalgia, and the tone you have set provides us opportuity to soak in days gone by. Looking forward to more.

I'm a huge Ford fan! I love the truck! It reminds me of when my dad passed away. He left me a 61 Chevy Belair. It was a 4dr and it had the 283 with a power glide 2spd and dual exhaust. I was 21 at the time and was so poor I couldn't afford to fix/restore it. It was so rusted in 1990 that I sold it ( I was an idiot) but I wish to God I'd of kept it. Please let us see video 3 and so on! Thanks for the experience.

My dad and I are currently restoring a 1956 Ford F100 that was my great grandpa’s whom he handed down to my grandpa, my grandpa used it in his early teen years to haul different types of construction materials from Mexico to California and after years my grandpa handed it down to my father for his first car when my dad was in high school, my dad has told
Me he spent hundreds of hours getting the body straight from all the damage the construction hauling did, took him all 4 years of high school and his senior year of high school he finally got it to run just down the street before the engine gave out after that life happened, he met my mom, and eventually they had my brother and I so my dad didn’t have the time nor money to spend into the truck, fast forward 28 years later for my dad, I entered high school (2011) and after 28 years of sitting my dad tells me we’re going to slowly start working On the truck so he can hand it down to me and When I start a family I can hand it down as well, 2011-2015 we spent 10’s of hundreds of hours thought those years working on the truck, fixing dents, rust, everything and upgrading it little by little money was always tight so we’d do our best to save extra to buy parts for it every couple of months and so on, after 2015 times got really hard there wasn’t any money for us to spare to put into the truck unfortunately, 5 years later life is changing for the better and just last weekend 08-22-2020 I was finally able to buy 80% of the parts we need to just get the truck on the road, no paint job, nothing extremely fancy just the essentials to get her going again, if all goes well these next couple of months I’ll be able to buy the rest of the parts needed and should have her on the road by the end of this year or I’m 2021..My Father and I have been working on our F100 since I was 13-14 I’m 22 now and it’s been my dream since the day we first started the project together.. I want to get her running again because it’s been my dads dream to get her on the freeway since the first and only time he ran it some 28 year ago.... may your father Rest In Peace and may you get your F100 running to make him smile In the afterlife

Beautiful old truck you have there. I love the story, and the legacy. I've got my dad's '59 Skyliner. While she's been in the family for 42 years, he didn't buy her new, and she's always been the show car in the garage. Not the same as a working vehicle that earned its keep. I'm very much looking forward to watching this process unfold.

Personally I would not change much, even the paint I would try to salvage. Maybe pull the engine and check the clearance and reseal if needed maybe rebuild. Replace the clutch and put fresh bearings were needed. That truck has a awesome patena / 60 plus years.
