Sure it has 2 less airblasts than stock but it's compensated by its insanely fast switch-to speed, essentially allowing you have airblasts on-demand regardless of your current weapon. for me, the Gas Passer is a good idea bad execution sort of stat(same for TC Hydro, just increase the capture rate of the game mode from 10 seconds to 45 seconds), which can be done quite easily, plus the stats are a good concept for grenades and mines(no item on respawn, has a cooldown you do damage or heal in medics case aka have to earn it, it's own slot so no Team Fortress Classic style strongest weapon and nade spam at the same time, can also be used for utility items as well as pocket shotguns, pocket revolvers, pistols, even one shot nades and even everything alread non gun in the game excluding Demo's shields), right the improvements.
Gas passer, make the cooldown in Casual either 30 seconds and 350 damage or 45 seconds and 450 damage, make the Gasoline count as Wet to combo with the Neon Annihilator, and give it a "press R with item active to switch between Gasoline Cloud mode and Gasoline Bomb mode(50 damage with no falloff and causes Gasoline afterburn)" as a way to make the gas passer better.

11:07 Speaking as a Pyro main, there is actually some strategy involved in fighting enemy Pyros with your flamethrower, the winner of these duels is the one who can keep the fire centered on the target for longer whilst avoiding being caught by the enemy flames, a very effective strategy is to backpedal when you are doing this as it means more fire will be hitting your target while you will be kept away from their effective range due to the travel time of the particles, if I can give an advice, avoid being right in the face of your foe because it will make extremely hard to aim the flames properly, rushing down the enemy Pyro is a viable tactic and if the enemy does the same, airblast him away and keep your distance.

Great video, but I would say that Pyro's placement in Offense *does* suit the intended design of pyro with stock flamethrower, just a more supportive role rather than being a power-oriented one. Easily applied damage, with average mobility and decent health of the pyro made him suited at the head of the frontline, easily spreading fire and making holding a position more difficult for a large number of enemies regardless if the pyro lived or died from the encounter.
The Dragon's fury is a decently big departure from that. However, since it works best with the flares that share the similar design of easily applied afterburn, it doesn't completely abandon pyro's initial role but rather makes it subjugate to its single-target damaging role.

finally a dragons fury video that addresses everything I love about the dragon's fury, except for one thing... Its pretty much the only flame thrower that pairs well with the thermal thruster. with other flamethrowers its rarely worth handicapping your range and damage to go for flanks instead of supporting your team. The dragons fury solves all these problems however, with higher damage, slightly longer range, and poor supportive abilities. the fire rate boost also makes it better for ambushes, giving you more damage in the small window where your target is surprised.

@@skadoosher7747 Hmmm, maybe he should have explained that in the video. With stock I do focus on tracking the closest target, but I assume good piercing is done when I see 3-4 players light up on fire all at once. That said, I notice with stock my random crits (or intel crits) can usually demolish the front target while the ones in the back die quickly when lined up in a straight line (since they all take max damage) and usually don't die otherwise (presumably the times they do when not lined up is when they are low on health already). Toasting un-revved Brass Beast Heavies backed by the Quick Fix is something I've done, but often the Medic is lit on fire but I still have to follow up with a flare or shotgun volley.

A projectile DPS weapon with rapid fireballs that are actually controllable (unlike the god awful current/former flame particles) would be much better, something like the primary fire of the link gun (Medium Speed rapid fire projectiles, requires "CHAINING")
Chaining is a concept from TRIBES ASCEND (as far as I know) where players CHAIN together every single projectile for automatic projectile weapons landing every hit "chaining" the projectiles. This would make pyro a high skill primary weapon user class as chaining is actually pretty hard considering strafing or erratic movement make it harder to get the DPS off.

Presumably it is to kill Pyros who don't use the shotguns since even after airblasting one of them the Pyro can only tickle them with flames if he doesn't disengage. But given that Pyro and Heavies are supposed to the kings of close-range combat (yes the flamethrower actually has more DPS than the Scattergun see toofy's videos) and now you give a subclass of a class that's not supposed to be good in melee the ability to not only go into melee range and win, but also beat one of the two classes who are supposed to be good in CQC. At least stock Pyros can still win and if you're a detonator Pyro I suppose you can just airblast and then run away. Even with the backscratcher this isn't a fight a flare gun or detonator Pyro wants to be in.

If you truly think the phlog is better than stock/degreaser I think you are the dumbest person ever. Low skill floor doesn’t mean shit tho. In fact most weapons with extremely low skill floors are really bad. What makes a weapon good is the skill ceiling. Sure the phlog itself is easy to use but countering it is just as easy if not easier. Just shoot his ass while backing up. The phlog is only "OP" when your team is already winning by a very big margin and if you're team is losing or when the teams are even, not even a pocket medic can make it viable. Even then, every weapon is good when you're already winning or when the enemy team is noticeably bad so it's not something special about the phlog. Actually why am I even bother explaining it to you, you're probably too dumb/inexperienced to know about game dynamics. Also seems like you’re the type who never airblasts and only walks forward to surprise enemies and hope for the best. Which, my friend, is not how you play pyro. I find that the design of the DF inverts Pyro's target priorities.
Scout, Demo, Heavy, and Engi are the worst matchups normally, due to longer ranges and higher DPS, but having a burst weapon makes it possible to shred these otherwise troublesome enemies.
It also makes it possible to avoid the snooze-fest of Pyro vs Pyro fights by just corner camping or back pedaling from them. Same for Sniper, assuming he doesn't tear your head off as soon as you get near him.
Personally, I use Det, Shotgun, or Flare, for mobility, close range damage, or long range damage, respectively.
I find pretty often someone will be just out of my range, but the Flare can reach out and punch them when they run, and since it does roughly the same damage as a DF shot, it's like my range is just bigger.

  • @charlesmorey4298
    @charlesmorey4298 Před rokem +1

Yknow, I was going to create a cool weapon concept for Pyro, but we already have one. It's the one that looks like a jet, along with the flare gun that came with it.
The idea is, just like a jet, you gotta hit hard and not get hit in return. So, we give it a quick 3-5 round burst (it's not random, I just haven't decided) of a medium range jet of flame. It has longer range than the Dragons fury, allowing for a more position mindful strategy than a lot of Pyros weapons. The drawback is, when firing, you are immediately slowed down, to the speed of a walking heavy. This is only while firing, however, and ends immediately once the last bit of flame has dissipated. Your base movement speed is upped to a very specific 106% speed. This is to allow spies to still be able to outrun the Pyro. There is also a damage decrease if the target being fired at is not already set aflame. There are also no random critical hits (because good God that would suck to deal with), and the Flamethrower would suffer from a little gimmick where, if a target gets too close (roughly 1.5x melee range), you will be set on fire with afterburn. This sounds gimmicky, but it again encourages the Pyro to be mindful of their surroundings (the slow while firing as it makes you easy pickings) and to be wary of where the enemy team is so they don't get too close.
Now for the flare gun. This, going from the machine gun on a jet to the missiles, has 2 firing options. When tapping left click, you simply fire out a single flare without afterburn. However, it does not have damage falloff and can hit multiple players. It is also very fast. For the alt fire, you charge it by holding right click, and fire by tapping left. After a couple of seconds to arm the flare, you fire out a much slower moving explosive flare. It has a blast radius similar to the Soldiers stock rocket launcher, and will provide a long afterburb effect. NOTE. THIS DOES NOT DO CONTACT DAMAGE, ONLY AFTERBURN. IT ALSO DOES MORE DAMAGE THE CLOSER YOU ARE, NOT LESS THE FARTHER AWAY THE ENEMY IS.
The synergy between the two is that it gives Pyro a unique method of fighting where he has to be very aware of who and where he is fighting. The main flamethrower provides reliable burst damage at the trade off of less damage if the target is not already taking afterburn, and the flare gun provides an effective yet simple weapon to use that can provide great utility to the Pyro.
    Here is a few footnotes:
There is only a small window of time that the Pyro can get the bonus damage whilst using the Axtinguisher from the Flare guns alternative fire afterburn.
The main gun has enough ammo for 15-20 bursts.
The flare gun has only 20 ammo period, alternative fire costs 2 ammo to use.
If you cancel the flare gun alternative fire, it will explode on the Pyro dealing decent damage.
Tell me if this is balanced or not below!

Pyro's original design was to be an offensive class with guaranteed damage, but they realized that was kinda stupid since other classes can just guarantee their damage by not missing so they added the airblast after a year of release in 2008 to kind of respec him into a supportive/offensive/defensive mix and just left him as is. The Dragon's Fury feels like if they put actual effort to create a coherently designed class during his 2008 rework and should just be the design of his stock flamethrower imo

Dragon's Fury is, in my opinion, the antithesis of Pyro's intended weapon. It's a weapon that spits in the face of the other flamethrowers, demanding skill and timing in order to be used effectively, and rewarding those that can use it with an incredible damage output. Now I just wish we had a strange variant..
(It's also really good with any flare gun since you can immediately get triple damage from the Fury by simply igniting someone as your approach with your flare gun.)

Hell, you don't even need an offensive secondary to go with the weapon; you can slot in the Thruster alongside it and be just as effective with how the Thruster massively helps in closing the distance.

I actually found out about airblasting the fireball a few hours after Jungle Inferno dropped iirc, and proceeded to harass some enemy pyros with the knowledge.

I main pyro, and this video is what made me keep the Dragon's Fury when i got it from a random drop, I had no idea how good it was because its first impression made it feel clunky and hard to use that i almost scrapped it. But then I see this, and suddenly I see this weapon in a whole new light, it made me commit to trying to craft a detonator and master it (I only recently crafted the Detonator and im still trying to master both it and the Dragon's Fury).
Also out of respect for you for making me see the Dragon's Fury in a new light, I also committed to never using a Scorch Shot if i get one (despite how incredibly tempting having the mobile god mod gun would be)

I’ve had a lot of fun using the dragons fury, detonator, and powerjack or detonator. Glad Pyro can actually be an offensive class like its supposed to be.

Just watching the stock flamethrower comparison makes me wanna reinstall and go practice hitting the people with the very tip of a single flame particle again. It's so satisfying when the stars align, you airblast someone, pop a single flame particle in their landing zone and axstinguisher them. Took me too long practicing it on walkway to be able to replicate in game. Thanks be to sketchek for always showing how high the skill ceiling is on pyro.
(Thought I'd moved on when I mained sniper and scout last time I reinstalled but this video is giving me pyro conniptions)
Edit: you have given me more fuel with that airblasting the dragons fury fact. I already relish in teaching people you can airblast huntsman and crusaders crossbow shots. Thankyou for one more in the pile!

If Valve were to ever hit the gym and finally start on that treadmill work, I would love to see the Dragon's Fury turn into its own sort of subprimary similar to how the Flare Gun has its variants, having a Dragons Fury esque weapon that worked in its own way while keeping the fundemental rules of burst damage would be really fun to toy around with

  • @DrTrayCreeper

Honestly, i physically cant play pyro anymore without the dragons fury and detonator. The combo is sooooo fun. Detonator is just scorch shot but it needs skill and the video perfectly explains why i love the dragons fury. From there the detonator gives decent mobility so i typically run axetinguisher. The loadout is so fun. The ONLY reason i ever switch off this is for MvM.
