    I love the small details: end cut nippers, using a washer as a spacer, and a large ballpeen hammer for solid striking. No guessing the height or using a nylon or rawhide hammer here. I feel confident in rivets now, thanks.

      FYI - Douglas Tools has retired. Rocky Mountain Leather has a few sets left but that's it. Buckleguy does have their own sets since Douglas stopped making them. They're nearly identical except for the knurling.

    Really good video! I especially like the pre-domed textured and buffed look. Going to have to try that.
    I noticed that you strike the setter with a metal hammer. I was told that it would mushroom your tools. Is that not the case with those setters?

      Thanks !! Possibly using some steel decorative stamps would be fun experimenting with. I have stamped the peened burr side with a steel sunburst stamp with mild success. I don’t know how to attach a picture here but it’s on my Instagram Cheers!

    Wonderful video. I will be waiting for more. I really like the idea of predoming the rivets. Any ideas where I could pick up a similar stage block? Buckle guy also sells those rivet sets. I did purchase my first set from Douglas though. His are extremely well made. Thanks again!

    I really like the video, learned a lot. Could you show doing it with thick leather folded like a holster or knife sheath? I have bent a few using that tool on #9 rivets.

      Thank you Woozman! If I understand your question I think by setting it on the edge of an anvil and even having someone holding it level and flat while you set the burr.

      Thank you Leah for the kind words Currently those 3pc setter tools are available thru rmleathersupply.com (Rocky Mountain) and thru buckleguy.com I believe buckleguy has the size 9 setters as does rmleather but their pricing is far apart not sure why tho Mine came from Douglas Tools years ago The size 14 3pc setters are harder to find but I’ve seen em at the SW Leathercrafters Trade Shows (AZ - TX - WY and Europe) Good luck

Seems like I can only find them in the US, which is a bit of a bummer since I live in Europe. Do you, by any chance know of any supplier here?

    I am amazed that you use a metal hammer on your good Douglas tools., Take a look at the copper rivet video made by El Paso Saddlery for an excellent example of what happens to those beautiful tools when struck with a steel hammer. PLEASE use a rawhide or poly maul or mallet and save the life of those good tools.

    I used the old style setter 30 years ago and have tried to avoid copper rivets. Now I may have to get a set of setters so I can up my quality of work.

      Check with your local industrial metal supply they have a large assortment of round or square hunks of metal. Mine is an old elevator counterweight

      The number 9 copper rivet setters can be purchased at buckkeguy.com Those will set the size 12 also but the size 14 rivets require its own size specific setters which are hard to find unfortunately

    after starting leather work when I was a kid, 50yrs ago, I have never heard of doming. I always hated the edge that was left doing the copper rivets. You can teach an old dog new tricks, now to find the new tool, any suggestions?
