This was awesome. I love the story and every time i see one of these clips the more and more I think it was Alex Hirsch’s destiny to write this show.
I was scrolling through Disney + last summer and found this legend of a show
I expected Alex Hirsch to say he got the name from “Twin Peaks”, a show that’s kind of like an IRL version of Gravity Falls
Twin Peaks is definitely one of "these types of shows" that he's talking about.
I can't find any confirmation, so I'm not sure if this is true, but I heard at one point the show was going to be called Twin Pines as a direct reference to the show.
Regardless, the iconic carpet from the dreamscape in Twin Peaks shows up in the restaurant in "The Hand that Rocks the Mabel."

And also I forget when or where I heard it, but I think I remember hearing that Alex hadn't actually ever seen twin peaks when he came up with the idea for the show. He had, however, watched a kids show that was basically a child aimed copy of twin peaks. Also presumably out of all the other writers on gravity falls, I would think at least one of them had watched twin peaks.

I'm glad it was titled Gravity Falls, the title itself and the location name all played into the weirdness that the show and town had.
Gravity Falls is just a weird and unnatural name that doesn't make sense much like the ongoings in the town.
Gravity doesn’t fall, it makes things fall. But in the weirdness of Gravity Falls Oregon, gravity is a permanently falling force that just pushes everything down with it. Thus, gravity falls
While I believe the Gravity Falls we have is just a hair away from perfection, I also wish I could just peek into an alternate reality were we get these early versions of Gravity Falls seen to fruition.

I've been to a Gravity Falls house, or mystery spot. I think there's one in Knott's Berry farm. It was the standard magnetic hills type warped perspective thing, and I loved it. Km a sucker for cheap roadside Americana and sideshow oddities. It's why one of my favorite stories in "The October Country" is "The Jar." And why I was and am so entranced by Gravity Falls. And Earthbound, where the plot is almost literally saving the world with the power of cheap tourist traps given mystical powers.
Just realising how many similarities Gravity Falls and Earthbound have in common now, it's kinda insane when you think about it

It’s been 10 years and I now understand how Gravity Falls is a pun. I always associated it with a water fall or something but come to think of it I don’t even remember there being Sony waterfalls in the show
Idea: what if Alex makes a spinoff where Stanford and stanley fight monsters around the world on the Stan o war 2
I've read somewhere that someone thought that Alex wanted to do this, but disney denied. Don't take my word for it though, not sure myself.

I interpreted it, towards the end of my binge watching, as the falls part meaning “fails” more than “descends.” AKA fluctuations in local gravity were warping spacetime, allowing all the weird higher dimensions/time travel shenanigans.

@@PartnershipsForYou It's not very significant, but it has slightly lower gravity than most other places due to something about the way earth's mass is distributed. It's around the area of the Hudson bay. It's not really "low gravity" but I think that's what they're trying to convey.
