Perfect - unlocking the secret! The allen key is 1/8" - good tight fit (3mm is a bit wobbly and may slip) needed a fair bit of persuasion + GT85 to get it to turn, but a great result after a hot day's fiddling with the whole OMC throttle/switch mechanism. Starts (like all these small jobs) with a bit of YouTubing to sort out a stiff throttle cable and ends up - like Malcolm in the Middle - with nearly a complete engine change!

@@darellmurray2860 I don't know if you can help me with this, but for some reason my throttle does not go a full 90 forward or backward. Maybe it will go 70 degrees max. It is a very smooth operation for those 70 degrees, so I do not think the cables are bad. But clearly it is not moving forward far enough for me to get to that set screw. Any thoughts? Thanks. :-)

Thank you for posting your video of how to remove the control handle. I was really at a loss until I found your video.
I have a 2006 75 etec with this same type of side mount control and it worked the same as the one in your video.
To add my 2 cents once you get the handle off there is a cover to the rear that pops off by using a screw driver. There is a slot in the middle half way down where the screw driver blade fits to pop this cover off. It is held in place by three snap type fittings. Once you get the cover removed there are screws under it, remove these. There are three machine screws also around the central hub that hold the mechanism together. Once you remove the screws under the cove and the three machine screws the whole thing comes apart. I believe you can leave the cover in place and the screws under it if you don’t need to remove the outer base, in my case I needed to remove all of it to remove the old carpeting that the Lowe factory place over the mounting plate. I did not replace the carpet but cleaned and painted the mounting plate instead, looks better in my opinion. Thanks again for your video because without your help I was pooched. :)

I am not very good yet but do have the video . I don't know how to edit so and I don't have a short tri pod yet for my camera . @@darellmurray2860 Thank you so much for the words of encouragement ! That helps a lot. I just found a really nice used 11.5 tripod on ebay. Its very well made and I got a good deal on it, Infact they just shipped it. I have been scared to death about editing and have no clue why? I will take on a re seal and rebuild on a Mercruiser stern drive but scared of editing. I know weird huh? I though of the title for the Cobalt let me know what you think. BLOWN AND INJECTED 502 COMES BACK LETS BRING HER BACK FROM THE DEAD do you think that would bring some hits off of You Tube? I bought a used JVC cam corder . Its a one of the model of GZ-MG2554U it has very low hours on it barely used. It had the zoom and all kinds of functions on it I have no clue how to use , You can even push a mode to do black and white vintage shooting on it. Just amazes me how much stuff then can get into such a small corder. I bought a Go Pro a Hero 1 years ago I am not comfortable with it . I really needed the flip out screen and the zoom that is why I bought the JVC you can get these for rock bottom prices , I barely know how to use it. But hopefully I can learn more and learn how to edit .I you ever need any advice or help reach out to me. Love to give back and help people. I can get my email address to you.
