  • Each year, the title of "best smartphone under $300" gets harder to snag - and each year, Motorola nails it yet again. The Moto G5 Plus is a worthy successor to its affordable forerunners, with smart software, useful features, and a price tag impossible to ignore. Even in a world of Honor 6Xs and Axon 7 Minis, I still think it's the best phone under 300 smackers - but will that hold true for you? Find out in MrMobile's Moto G5 Plus review!

    Seeing a lot of comments regarding the compass in this phone. The G5 Plus I tested has a magnetometer (compass) and it works just fine! It appears that the standard G5 (i.e., NOT the G5 Plus) lacks a compass. The G5 Plus *does* include it.

      MrMobile [Michael Fisher] I pre ordered it on amazon. I was on the fence about it but your review cleared up all the questions I had about it. my last two phones were over $500 and for what I used them for there's no need to spend that much.

    This is why I love Mr Mobile channel. By having sponsors that are not related to the product you're reviewing, you get to produce unbiased reviews. A lot of other big name Tech reviewers only review phones sponsored by the very company that makes the phone. Talk about conflict of interest 🤔

    your review is what convinced me to buy the Moto G5 plus, and thanks for the mintsim ad. This phone has everything I've been waiting for. 64gb storage, charging port and audio port on same side, micro SD card storage is a plus, stock Android, and the price is still flagship killer like the OnePlus One I'm upgrading from. The Amazon discount was icing on the cake. I almost bought the OnePlus 3T, but wasn't ready to change all my cords to USB-C yet, and I've never used my Android pay. I could wait any longer for Nokia's smartphone to come out in US, plus it looks like they wanted to charge flagship prices anyways.

    As I get older(soon to be 30), I'm starting to care less and less about specs and devices and more about price...
    With solid devices like this G5+ on the market for its price point it makes me furious and feel like an absolute idiot knowing I paid $849 for my current 6S+....
    And with the current trend of devices creeping into the $800 range. It's making devices like this G5+ REALLY appealing to me!

    • @deborahgimbel599
      @deborahgimbel599 Před 7 lety +2

      TheAverage Joe agreed! Now that I'm 40 with a kid and a mortgage etc...I can't justify the cost of flagships anymore lol. Especially flagships like my months old Galaxy S8 that randomly reboots and now freezes at the drop of a hat. Have the Moto G5 Plus in the mail right now.

    • @shawng4886
      @shawng4886 Před 7 lety +6

      Deborah Gimbel they're getting ridiculous... idk wtf I was thinking when I got my 6S+... I mean, devices like the Moto G5+ weren't on the market at that time, but still...
      The sad part is, it looks as fast if not faster than my iPhone, with the same or better quality camera, yet it costs 1/3 of the price... like wtf... that's just bullshit and really puts things into perspective for me about Apple and other flagships....

      And even worse; you CANNOT unlock the bootloader or root the phone. Thus buying the prime discounted phone literally locks you in on being stuck on the original ROM/OS. That's the primary reason I bought a G4 directly from Motorola instead of Amazon.
      I gladly paid that extra $50 for that nagging feeling that Lenovo/Motorola wouldn't uphold release dates for the OS updates they promise.

    1:09 - 2:06 Great way to nail it on that part. A budget phone must be honest with itself and shouldn't try to hard to be what it shouldn't be. Also, there are those who prefer the warmth of the premium plastics as well as the variable colors that can stand out from the samely metal. Extra credit if it's customizable and the back plate is replaceable, and even more so if the battery is easily replaceable!
    And another great, objective review as always! It's a shame that updates are getting slower since Lenovo bought Motorola. Could that also explain the choice of materials for this G5?

One thing i noticed about the top tech youtubes is that they show their face to much in their videos. examples unbox therapy, mkbhd, Austin, Jonathan and so on. maybe this is the key your channel needs to grow up. I have to say that every video you make is a piece of art but i think CZcams "has to face you" more often.

    Those home button gestures alone is really interesting. I just wish Motorola had more of a mid-range. Other than a low-budget or a high end phones.

    The Moto G series are pretty cool for midrange/budget/starter handsets... My previous phone was a Moto G 2, and for the money, it had some awesome features such as front-facing stereo speakers, a gyro, proximity sensor, compass, LED alert light... Quite a few features you would find on a flagship, but usually not on a budget... Only had 8 GB of on-board storage and 1 GB of RAM, but what do you expect? For two years, I used the shit out of it... Still have it and now use it as a mini-tablet...Just no carrier functions enabled, strictly internet, photoediting, and image storage...

    • @Jhihmoac
      @Jhihmoac Před 7 lety

      Negan Lannister - Woww! I just went in the opposite direction... I upgraded to an HTC 10... With the Moto X Pure now out of production, and on limited support, that left the Moto Z, which I did not like because of all the optional and expensive mods... My sister has a Galaxy S7, and I was not impressed with that handset's on-board sound quality through wired headphones... Then I ran into a few friends I knew who were still using old HTC M7s and M8s, and got a walk-through of their handsets... After that, I was interested in an HTC product, and the rest is history...

    hey i'm gonna get this phone! :D
    edit: i got the lunar grey/platinum and i f*cking love it so much. I don't mind the camera bump, or any small flaws that were talked about in the video.
    The camera is good, but that's coming from someone who barely uses it (LUL)
    Also over here in Brazil - we got the NFC, but it's not really used..
    The battery is decent, but if i use too many power-sucking apps it's okay.
    and the front-firing speaker- _amazing._ for music or calls, it's great.
    i switched from a Samsung, but.. I quickly adapted to the difference.
    And i've walked around with it naked ever since I got it, and it survived a fall hitting the floor, and i thought it would damage the camera - but i am careful, and it was one fall only, with no damage.
    in general, _I love this phone._

    Always great reviews! If i hear budget, i always think of xiaomi. You can get a mi5/mi5s for 220-280$, which is basically a flagship. A direct competition for this Moto would be Redmi 4 (snapdragon 625), which way cheaper.

    I hope Otterbox makes cases for the Moto G again with this one. The Moto G3 combined with the Commuter case was one of the most durable devices I've used. Might even abandon my S7 Active. (Unless they start showing up unlocked on places like Woot or Amazon for a similar price)

    I was a big Motorola fan. My first android phone was the Moto g 1st gen. But after the acquisition by Lenovo, i think all the things i use to love are gone.
    My view changed after i bought the Moto g 4th gen (last year's Moto g). The phone worked pretty good in the beginning, but after the use of a few months, i started to notice some problems.
    1. The phone use to heat very quickly, even after mundane tasks like web browsing on LTE network.
    2.Also, one of the biggest issue is that the display on this phone isn't a good one. After 2 months of use, i noticed some ghost icons n display bleeding around the edges. I looked it up online on the forums, and found out that i wasn't the only one who had this problem.
    Although, the camera n battery life of this phone are still pretty good, but the display issue indicates that lenovo chose some low quality display to cut the production costs and bring down the price of the phone. This never happened before Lenovo's acquisition.
    My 1st gen moto g still works pretty good as my mom uses it and can perform day-to-day tasks.
    I wish Lenovo realises this and makes the required changes. But for now, my next phone will not be a Motorola phone and i would suggest you all not to get this one either.
