For those of you still wondering how Ben Reilly came back to life- Superboy Prime punched reality.
"Barry?! Did you go back in time to stop your mother's death, again?!
Well after the amalgam universe shenanigans, this unironically could be the answer lmao
Although, the Superboy Prime punching reality did make me wonder if all of Marvel’s continuity errors, characters appearing alive despite being dead and even how all the characters are living their lives throughout the different decades without seemingly aging is due to time and space being affected by time-travel and other cosmic events. Like it’s hiccuping from time to time, quickly changing things or moving time along without aging the characters.
It’s something I don’t want addressed or answered, only that it’s a thing that is happening without the characters even knowing.
Ah yes of course... The old "bringing people back to life by punching holes in reality" cliche.
@@Mike_DuboNah he stopped himself from stopping himself from jacking off that one time.
Dan Slott: I'm gonna write the Clone Saga but better.
Me: Bendis already did it.
Dan Slott: Hey, remember that event from the nineties everyone hated?
Fan: Which one?
Dan: The Spider-Man one.
Fan: Which one?
Dan: Clone Saga! I'm going to do my own version, but make it good.
Fan: I got 10 bucks on "this will suck." Who wants in?
This is the most fucking accurate representation of Spider-Man in the 90's in retrospect.
Okay, fine. What's the theme, Slott?
"Don't bring back things that should stay dead."
...
"..."
Shaking the pills might be the funniest running gag in a Back Issues.
The quality of the episode can be determined by just how disgusted and horrified they are in the thumbnail.
This gonna be good.
It's Over 9000 Productions you can tell how good a Tiffany episode is going to be by how long she talks about how much she likes the book at the start of the episode.
The problem with retconning sins past was that they would have had to actually reference sins past, and really, who wants that? I think Gwen just having no idea about any of it serves as a soft retcon.
Why not just say Norman & Gwen Stacy were Skrulls when they undo OMD... oh wait. Never Mind :(
They should have just said it was her clone or something stupid so that it's just so complicated that no one wants to even think about having to think about it
1:02:53.... funny you would mention that....
@@pickedceasar1216better yet: just pretend It never happened.
Now this is hilarious considering the confusing mess we just got recently.
Kaine's Scarlett Spider was pretty good though honestly. Wish people bought it.
Mordexai it was pretty good and I enjoyed. Shame Slott fucking ruins him again.
It’s my second favorite Spider-run
It’s
Spider-Gwen
Scarlet Spider (Kaine)
Ultimate Spider-Man
Superior Spider-Man (the 1st run)
It's been two years but I finally found outher Kaine fans hello.
jay day and the face off between him and superior? It was great. Kaine is the Red Hood to Peter’s Batman
Have Peter Parker, Ben Riley and Kaine ever teamed up together, like as a trio. It sounds like a cool idea.
I finally see why Sal hates tie-ins. I would hate it too if I was just buying this too.
Clones? Spiderman? What could possibly go wrong true believers?
This is the book where I was like, “ I never want to see, Slott Write Spider-Man ever again”.
"May there never be another one"
*Miles getting his own Clone Saga*
Lol The holo-Anna Maria joke just the right level of wrong. Can't wait for the future Back issues on the inevitable event "Spider-Man: One More Clone" written by Slott and art by Quesada. "What would you do if you only had One More Clone?"
Chi-Kid Chris does that mean it will have a clone of Mephisto?
Of course. Wouldn't be a Spider-Man story without Mephisto.
Ben Riley’s last line should’ve been “oldest trick in the clonebook”
"So all the other spider-men are like shitty" Spiderverse in nine words
Oh my God this book is a nightmare but this episode is fucking brilliant
Edit: A Phantom Menace, Batman Begins, AND Spider-Man 2002 reference? NICE
I thought Conway's clone saga was pretty fun.
This was hilarious. I’m so ready for Dan Slott to be done with Spider-Man
Just four more issues to go...
Dominic Glover whos gonna take over?
Dominic Glover I really hope we have a guy who knows Spider-man writing the new book. Dan Slott pissed me off so much in his long run. He made Felicia unlikable and look like a dummy during Superior Spider-man. Same with Mary Jane.
+stephen the dude Nick Spencer
At August he's doing Fantastic Four so hold your beer.
Sal, PLEASE do a follow-up Back Issues on the tie in issues! this was a cathartic episode for me! Reading the Clone Conspiracy last year was such a mess to tackle; watching you guys groan through it all was hilarious
I love the faces you guys are making in the thumbnail.
They've gone in the ventilation shafts.
👏
Scarlet Spider series is actually pretty good tbh
me too!...after PKD relented and gave up most of the Clone Conspiracy stuff
I read the first tpb of it and it’s pretty solid
Yeah Sal really needs to read passed issue 1. As for while there before the Spectacular Spider-man relaunch happened it was to me the best main universe spider-man title.
Adrian Castro Ben's series is the best written out of all the current Spider titles
Mr. Raygunz well bad news for you guys that series is now cancelled
“Peter Parker invented Webware give me a goddamn break” still gets me everytime
That "Mua" at the end by Sal hurted me just by laughting so hard.
Slott. The irony escaped you as you wrote this story, I see, you strange man.
Great, now I don't have to read it. Thanks for the save.
So the next clone event will probably be something like "The Clone Agenda" or "The Clone Initiative".
@@goldenstatewarriors9418 THEY WILL, WHEN THEY DON'T HAVE IDEA, THEY PUSH CLONES. SO WHEN A WRITER WOULDN'T NEW IDEA. NEW CLONE SAGA. BOOM
This story arc is what made me drop Amazing Spider-Man! So happy to see it on Back Issues so I never have to go back and read it lol
I actually like Slott's run and enjoyed this clone saga. This Back Issues episode was still funny though. The story does explain why Ben is acting the way he is. He was tortured for awhile while Jackal (Miles Warren) was experimenting with "reanimation." Somewhere towards the end when you find out Ben is still alive he ends up in one more battle with MIles Warren. As far as why Spider-Man and Spider Gwen didn't get infected, it spreads via skin contact and they wear full suits. Not saying the story is without issues but I just happen to remember those items. Love the show. :)
Slott's best work was earlier during the Brand New Day Era (when he had check and balance system) and early into his Solo run. Once he hit ends of the earth his stuff took a nose dive for me. It became The Amazing Slott-Man and his amazing fan-fics. Now that his run is sandwiched between JMS and Spencer he exposed I think even more. As a meh writer.
The whole concept is complete garbage to begin with. Let's bring back the story concept that nearly killed spiderman and remind everyone why they hate superhero comics.
Complicated retcons and character revivals oh boy just what comics needed more of
@@NeutralGuyDoubleZero don’t forget character assassinations both figuratively and literally
Clone Conspiracy aka the worst story written by Dan Slott, who begged comic book stores on Twitter to order extra copies of this because it was going to be so good he knew they're going to need them (to go bankrupt), makes the perfect recipe for great Back Issues.
I would exchange "...encouraged comic book stores..." with "..begged comic book stores....."
i am so done with dan slott spider-man
Now you're going to have him on 4F
yup oh the irony
I'm excited to read it since even if done with him on Spider-man, everytime he wrote them was pretty cool.
Clone stories are the Spider-Man equivalent of Crises
I still think Gerry Conway's clone saga from the 1970s was great.
It might as well be Shakespeare compared to the rest
Joshua Nelson It was. That's why they started mining it. Just like the Death of Gwen Stacy was great, but it was a terrible idea to bring back Norman Osborn and mine that history to death and decay.
+SirToby
I actually really liked the fact that Marvel brought Norman back from the dead because I think it made for a lot of really interesting stories. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for the constant use of clones.
There were a lot of good stories in Conway's run, partly because he was just writing Amazing Spider-Man as best he could rather than writing an "event" that had to be coordinated with a bunch of other writers and jammed into numerous titles. Clones were also just one story element that he used and not the main focus of every issue and that made a big difference for the better.
+TapCat
Conway's Spider-Man work is definitely some of the best in the character's history.
Aww great videos guys, I had a bad day and this cheered me up, Thanks
1:02:50 this aged well.
The original Carrion was actually a messed up Miles Warren clone from the 70s so that adds even more clone goodness
imagine if Grant morrison wanted to not only write Spider-Man, but also wanted to do a clone story.what would that be like?
A literal acid trip.
M.T.KaiserSoze Imagine if he were to do Moon Knight.
M.T.KaiserSoze Fun fact he was supposed to write a Spider man comic back late 90s-early ‘00s, Which was supposed to be Batman Arkham Asylum mad house on a serious earth type book for spider man with mysterio as the villain but he lost interest in writing the character
The story would be the definition of insanity
28:40 Ben and Sal must've had some ESP that day because it's so close to what's happening in Zeb Wells' run on ASM with Ben Reilly and the "Beyond!" and "Dark Web" story arcs
"Who wants to read about Ben Reilly?"
Me, who likes his character and think it's a damn shame for this character assassination. Also, the new series is actually pretty good and fun. I'm getting all the trades. 🙂
Enjoy.
@@comicpop Hey question you're a super spiderman fan? Have Peter Parker, Ben Riley and Kaine ever teamed up together, like as a trio. It sounds like a cool idea.
@@WannabeWryter Not really. Kaine was Ben's sworn enemy, so you saw all three together a lot, but not on the same side. Even in clone Conspiracy, Ben's the antagonist so they don't have the chance to team up against a common foe. Maybe during the original Clone Saga the three of them helped each other against Jackal, but any alliance would have immediately dissolved moments later.
@@comicpop Dang, could the trio idea work now in current comics? I think they're all heroes again at this point and Jackal could always have a random rainy day clone hiding around or mabye a copy cat cloner who annoyingly takes up the mantle. (Thank for responding, I'm more DC than Marvel, so I don't even know if spiderman fans would even like something like this?)
@@comicpop yeah. However, the point was here to see the original Peter, Ben and Kaine work together as Spider-men. Imagine Aunt May meeting up with Kaine face to face. That would be interesting. Would Aunt May accept Kaine as her sort of nephew or not? The samw is for Ben Reilly.
Ben's hair tells me he is a clone who is currently regrowing. Well played Ben clone, well played.
One of the funniest episodes yet guys👌🏼 killing it as usual
OK. This is one of my favorite back issues already.
This would be a cool retcon for why the Marvel Zombies universe happens. Another awsome Back Issue.
In Akihko's voice : *I've been waiting for this!* I've been waiting for Sal to rip into this for like 2 years
Gwen said that she forgave Peter for everything. She just felt betrayed that he didn't trust her with his identity but she understood why Peter hid his secret. She was happy that Peter moved on like she would have wanted to and had MJ. She even kinda helped Peter by fighting other villians at the end and went down fighting.
But it was in Amazing Spider-Man issue.
That's the only best thing in this comic.
This is definitely one of the worst stories in Dan Slott's run...which is really saying something.
Joshua Nelson What? Slotts run wasn't great. But it wasn't consistently terrible.
+Kevin Bevel Jr
I honestly didn't care for "Spider-Island" or most of the stories during the "Big Time" era (excluding "No One Dies"). SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN was flawed yet fun, but the whole Parker Industries saga was a complete dumpster fire.
+SirToby
I disagree. While Slott has had a few winners under his belt, most of his work has ranged from mediocre to awful in my opinion.
+Kevin Bevel Jr
I agree that "Mysterioso" was a pretty fun story. With a few exceptions, I honestly think Slott is a terrible Spider-Man writer.
Joshua Nelson lol that’s why Superior Spider-Man is probably the best he’s ever been. He wasn’t writing Peter Parker he was writing Doctor Octopus.
+TheHypershon 40
Slott writes a pretty good Otto Octavius for the most part; I'll give him that.
I don't think I've ever laughed so hard during a #BackIssues as I did with this but starting at 29:53. This episode is going on my list of favorites. LMFAO
Hey Sal! lol I'm not Morlun fanboy or anything but I look back on his introduction as pretty damn awesome. I was a kid at that point and had never seen that brutal of a fight in comics. Ive never seen Spider-Man struggle so hard! He may be a jackass but the dude Morlun had gravitas back in the day lol
( Sees the title after knowing about the teaser a few weeks ago. )
Oh no, here we go again.
Also please don’t skip on any ultimate Spider-Man books. If you can’t make a whole episode about a certain arc, at the very least talk about it for 10 min please.
"In a tie in" I loved this episode
Watching this while reading Dark Web is a truly enlightening experience
Yes! Thank you for doing this one. Can't wait to watch when I get home. I thoroughly enjoyed The Clone Conspiracy and all its tie-ins.
30:00 now all the ethans can shut up because every time gotta have these little pills ::shaking cup:: i love it every time i see/hear it.
(Shake the pill bottle)
7:45
Hey I forgot to ask, do you like guacamole?
1:03:00 Sal Predicts Goblin Wars 4 years early
Please keeping going with the ComicCrap for Back Issues! I love it for all the wrong reasons
Holy shit the madman called the clone retcon. This kind of precognition is too powerful, Sal.
Sal: "Remember the Web of Life?"
Ben: *Soul angrily escapes body*
Wasn't Spider-Man kind of like the mascot for Parker Industries or something like that? Because that would justify why PI inventions have spider themes like the Spider-Car or the mobile phone thing..
Tobio Smash he is
Clone in the title, instant maniacal grin on my face...btw, were you guys planning to do a manga at some point (maybe by Tiffany) or is my brain completely making this up...I would be pretty excited about Attack on Titan or Fullmetal Alchemist since you recently referenced it
#Tiff4AbigalBrand
Carrion was actually created in the late 1970s by Bill Mantlo and Jim Mooney.
marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Miles_Warren_(Carrion)_(Earth-616)
The Lizard's family actually died during the Zeb Wells story "Shed" from AMAZING SPIDER-MAN vol. 1 #630-634.
Joshua Nelson Yeah, but that was the original Carrion. The 2nd Carrion is the one that is relevant to Kaines current affliction.
+SirToby
The Malcolm McBride version? You would be correct. I just thought Sal was talking about Carrion in general.
Like how Hickman ripped this off for Krakoan ressurection.
Wait a minute. The guy on the left is wearing the same outfit from the clone saga episode.... CLONE!!!
Jordan Peeles Us proves this story was almost a kernel of a good idea.
I remember this event. I fell off Midway thru.
Honestly out of all the Clone Sagas this is by far the my favorite and the best one.
I remember when I used to thought Spiderman was just "villain of the week" and like that...
...Things were easier to follow back then.
The reason Ben went crazy was explained in a tie-in. Jackal killed him and resurrected him hundreds if not thousands of times and he remembered every single death everytime he came back and eventually his mind just broke.
Tl;Dr Ben Riley got tortured until he became evil.
I don't get it. We literally said exactly this in the episode, AND said it was explained in a tie-in.
I don’t know a lot about spider-man history other than what Sal has taught me. The thumbnail alone has me excited nonetheless.
Sal as the the new Jackal is sooo funny! Love it when Sal plays a villian that is sooo hammy!
Man Im super glad you guys got a member of Linkin Park to replace Ben on the couch
The weirdest thing about this to me is that if I talk to anyone who read comics in the 90s a lot will say the clone saga sucked but they liked scarlet Spider. Then this comes along rehashing the horrible event and says," you know what, let's mess up Scarlet Spider to."
I kinda wish Dan Slott had actually killed Kaine in Spider-Verse, instead of including him in this junk. Worse, now he's stuck in Peter David's Ben Reilly book. It suuuuuucks.
That Scarlet Spider book with Christopher Yost and Ryan Stegman was damn great and actually made me like Kaine.
Sal sounds so fucking done. Lol
Now Slott is going to be taking over the Fantastic Four?......Fuck.......
Why can they never just leave Ben as the scarlet spider is that to hard to ask i like Ben as a hero his storys as spiderman were fun and even how the used his last line from his death to inspired Mayday Parker spider girl
I hope he appears in Across the Spider-Verse and becomes a best boi to influence the comic book writers to stop doing forced villain stories with him
What a gift to wake up to this wonderful thursday morning
Ethan and Ben's various reactions starting at about 20 minutes in are hysterical.
This is, technically, the second best Clone Saga. While Bendis's is still the best in Ultimate, I don't hate this story. It's not awful
13:55 It’s a Comic POP catchphrase!
The implication I was getting from the lady getting Electro powers was because she also had a lot of his DNA uhm, "mixed" with hers when she died. And somehow the way she died allowed that dna to remain active when she was cloned.
Lol Ethan is wearing the same shirt he wore for the clone saga episode
Every time I think "hey, maybe I should give more of Slott's run a chance", I hear stories like this and immediately regret my interest.
LMAO I lost it at 30:42 .... QUALITY CONTENT
Yea, in one of the tie ins they try to explain why Ben was that way. Apparently after the Jackle found him and experimented on him he remembered being brought back and dieing over 20 times. At some point he wanted to stay dead but he kept finding himself alive again. They tried to get you to feel sorry for him but I never did.
Ben being used as a force for bad is just too tiring to get invested in tbh
Personally the only clone stories i recommend that our good with Spider-man aka peter parker our only two, one of them is amazing spider-man the real clone saga which was a mini series that actually made the clone saga good and had a way better ending then the original clone saga and plus in that series baby may is still alive and so is ben riely aka scarlet spider they get to live with a happy ending offer which made me happy. Finally the ultimate clone saga which was also good that's about it.
I didn't think clone conspiracy was bad. We got the new Ben Reilly that's tying in with Damnation, which I'm having fun with.
I just saw the Ultimate Spiderman Carnage episode! This was great hearing the referencing in this one
Actually Ben Reilly became an asshole by being tortured and killed several times by the original Jackal.
They explain in the story that the jackal mask Ben wears has a voice modulator. But anyone who knows Peter well enough could still realize that it’s Peter(to them even though it’s Ben) just by his body and chin and mannerisms
Let's ask the POPulation,
Which character does Ben and Ethan look like?
Gilmer Robles Rick Jones and shaved head Bruce banner
megamonmon Omg. So accurate
Ethan like the stranger things kid who gets lost in the upside down. Ben idk
cubencis nailed it
Like less jacked Nightwing and Red Hood. Maybe it’s the hair idk.
Oh my gonna get a Good sal rant here folks
Alex Ross' covers for Slot's run promised a more interesting story than Slot actually wrote.
*Me:*
**Sees this**
**Sigh**
*“Fuck”*
**Clicks on video**
So the fixed the problem with an annoying noise like in Godzilla vs Monster Zero.
This was AWESOME
I find Gwen being awake during the battle between Spidey and Goblin intresting I liked it made her death more heartbraking.
It could be good if haandled more well. this one feels like shit. If norman and gwen in Sins Past were real, then why there is a need to hate Peter which I feel she was hating Peter. Why there is no mention or confession or something like that. Just a Slott.
everyone forgets that Carolyn Trainer was Doctor Octopus during Ben's run as Spider-Man.
the real talent is sals impressions
Great episode as always.
