    • @Zenigundam
      @Zenigundam Před rokem +17

      No one argues that Bob Cousy would be able to compete against any decent NBA guard, but Russo was saying that Cousy changed the game as one of its earliest cerebral and creative players. Redick should be the last one running his mouth because his career was a failure as far as I'm concerned. Given all of his hype in college, you would think he would have it in him to be an alpha male and assert himself in the league, but he got turned into a role player almost instantly, yet he talks like he averaged 25ppg in his career. Beta males shy away from positions of leadership and authority and are content with being role players at work, at home, and in marriage. JJ's pets probably boss him around.

    • @billr5842
      @billr5842 Před rokem +7

      @@Zenigundam I would also like to add, that if JJ redick was born back then, he may not even be in the NBA. Bob Cousey didn't have access to social media, information, modern training, nutrition, AAU leagues, etc. Bob Cousey is a legend and a pioneer of the game... JJ redick is nowhere remotely close to that level.

      @@JohnnyBananas7x who else are they suppose to get in the free agency right now that could solve the ball handling/playmaking issue the Knicks have had for years? They would waste another year without much progress if they didn't find a way to resolve their biggest need. Rubio would have been my pick, but he had another devastating injury this season. Rondo has all the off court issues and he's dealing with injuries. Dragic probably doesn't want to waste the little time he has yet on a team that isn't title contenders. John Wall is the only other option I can think of, but he also has a history with injuries as well. The Knicks only have one reliable PG and that has been old DRose (who also dealt with injuries this past season). Before DRose, the Knicks haven't had any good PGs since the Raymond Felton days.
      Jalen Brunson solves what the Knicks needs. He can control the pace of the game, make plays, has excellent handles, doesn't turn over the ball, can score when needed, and has decent range. He was MIP contender when Luka and KP were injured for the Mavs and we saw what he can do during the Jazz and Suns series. Now Brunson won't be the franchise savior, but he will help them move forward and allow RJ and Randle to play to their strengths. It will be a good contract overall for the team like the Gordon Hayward or Scary Terry contracts were for the Hornets.

    It’s easy to see that most people in this comment section only watch NBA basketball. At Stevenson High School, Jalen Brunson was one of the top high school players in his class (2015). I literally watched this man play at the IHSA state tournament in Peoria; 2nd place in 2013 as a sophomore, losing to Jabari Parker and Simeon in the championship; tournament record 56 points as a junior in 2014 in a semifinal loss against Jahlil Okafor and Whitney Young, team finished in 3rd place; won state as a senior in 2015, scoring a 4A record 30 points against Normal Community (who was a conference rival of mine as a high school junior that year); two national championships in 3 years at Villanova (was the leader of the team for the second one); college player of the year, and many other high school and college accolades. May not be relevant his NBA career, but it’s what makes his journey there a special one.
    I’m not saying he should go to the Knicks (I don’t think he should), or that the Knicks should pursue him, or that he’s an NBA superstar, but he’s earned his rightful spot as a very good NBA player. HE…IS…ELITE, and stars in his role. If you haven’t heard of him before now, you haven’t really explored the game.

    Ball handling/playmaking and a PG is a position that the Knicks have desperately needed. DRose is the only reliable ball handler that the Knicks have had since Raymond Felton and Jeremy Lin back in the early 2010s. Even then Rose has been dealing with injury and would need another playmaker off the bench if Rose is starting. I don't think Brunson will be the franchise savior, but he definitely fills a need that the Knicks have been looking for and allow their other players to maximize their skills. He's young, improving every year, doesn't turn the ball over, and fits with the current roster. Maybe a temporary signing of John Wall might be better (Rubio was my pick before his devastating injury again) but those are the only options I see in this free agent class.

      @@mikeg5834 thats why lowry is injured all the time, have you noticed good defensive players are more injury prone. Jimmy butler, lonzo ball... etc its because they sacrifice their bodies on defense

    Knicks will just end up overpaying for Jalen Brunson like they did to Julius Randle because his daddy with the huge head himself is on the Knicks' coaching staff. Brunson will be trash once he gets his money.

    as a mavs fan it's better to overpay Brunson than keeping those overpaid and overrrated dudes like Burks, Noel, and Kemba. it's a good move for the Knicks

    Windhorst is right here. Hopefully the Knicks are semi-tanking and preparing for a rebuild.
