Love these shop tours, Jay. Thanks for doing them. Lots of good ideas and it makes me want to see more about how each person approached their shop layout and fixtures. For me, videos like this also build the notion of community amongst the CZcams woodworkers, such as yourself, Jason, April, and Nick.
Been following Jason once I came across his cabinet building series. He produces exceptional instructional videos. Thanks for the shop tour Jay!
Jay, great commentary, and Jason, your hard work shows up in the way you have purchased and organized your tools. I saw a lot of nice ideas that I will be incorporating into my shop. Both of you are a credit to the woodworking profession and hobby !
You two are my favorite channels to follow. I’ve only recently discovered Bents Channel. You both have amazing shops. I’m just getting started into wood working but I appreciate all the info you guys put out! Best of luck to you both.
Mike Tatman thank you!!
Certainly an aspirational video for anyone interested in home woodworking, very well done!
Awesome shop tour I love how everything is laid out. Simple and functional.
S Squared thank you! Funny thing is I just changed a bunch of things🤣🤦🏼♂️
What a fantastic shop.
I love the layout and the light inside is great.
Andrea's Workshop thank you!
That is one awesome shop. Goes to show that hard work and grinding really will get you places! Way to go!
CCS and Sons Workshop thank you!
Nice shop Jason! Thanks for your service also!
MrBubbajohnson1 thank you!

Hey Jay, Right on!!
Just when I paid off my credit card.... along comes a video like this. Darn you Jay and Bent's
Hey Guys,
unbelivable, so nice your workshop, a dream!!
greeting from germany✌🏻
I love the shot tour tour. Helps me get ideas for my shop. Great stuff
New drinking game: Take a sip every time Jay says "Right on."
Right on
Everything is housed. Right on. All good fun, great video Jay!
You would be trashed before the video really begins lol
And I'm drunk
I died.
Right on, Right on, Right on, - this shop tour brought to you by Matthew McConaughey LOL Nice shop! Thanks for the tour. Lots of great ideas.
alright, alright, alright....came here to say the same thing!
Right on.
Right on :)
Jason is a great guy and has an awesome shop! Great choice
Penalty Box Woodshop thanks buddy 😉
Great shop tour, amazing shop. One thing I missed seeing that would have been great would be some discussion about workflow given the layout. The layout is only as good as the workflow it facilitates and that is an important reason I watch shop tours.
Dallas Wesley thanks! Funny you mention that cause I recently did a live on IG talking about that. I will look at doing a CZcams video on my channel on this topic
Crash in the background -> "oops" on the soundtrack -> brilliant :D
That was an interesting shop tour. I’ve been following Jason for a while.
WoodIce.xyz is an amazing book about woodworking. I am a graduate of a one year carpentry course from a local tech college. Of all books I`ve read during my study about carpentry, I think this is the finest book I`ve read so far. It explains everything regarding woodworking as well as complements it with helpful photos
Thanks! Really entertaining. Beautiful shop
Inspiringly organized
Such a clean and organized shop!!!
walkerandwood from time to time 🤣
Agreed on the Jessem clear cut guides, those things are fantastic. Makes rip cuts vastly easier and safer.
chiggymonkey it’s like having a third hand!
Like having a third hand at the table saw
And how many times do you see in videos people pulling wood away from the fence.....router or saw. I'm pretty ocd so it stands out like crazy. Not with these things !
It's amazing what you notice when watching a video carefully that you would probably miss normally.. Love the shop, and as mentioned, Guy Dunlap has a great channel too...I love the 'engineer' types in woodworking.
Gary John thank you!!
Right on... Another great video of another awesome shop. Nice work, Jay.
Right on.
Thanks!
Nice, very practical shop!
Kinda cool seeing you do his shop tour. I was just told over the weekend at a woodworking show in Columbus ohio that Jason Bent was the next Jay Bates in the CZcams woodworking arena. AWESOME shop Jason. I really enjoy your videos.
Handcrafted Workshop thank you so much! Quite a compliment
@@bentswoodworking you're welcome.
Nice shop tour!
Thank you
Every shop tour exposes new ideas. The Dustnado is foremost this time because drill press the work is usually far messier than poking a few pilot holes. Also, about 20 years ago I heard Sam Maloof say when he bought walnut by the tree or by the log in quantities of about a thousand board feet he was getting it for 87 cents a foot... just a thought for woodworkers with the space to air dry timber.
Great shop !
Woohoo I'm in Canton, GA. Nice work guys!
jqcargle nice! Not far at all
Right on, awesome shop!
Smoking DeWalt thanks
@@bentswoodworking is your Saw Stop a 1 3/4 hp or 3 hp? I've had my eye on saw stop professional cabinet saw and was wondering if the 1 3/4 has enough power. If I get 3 hp I will have to upgrade electrical.
Smoking DeWalt I have the 3 HP
Awesome shop! Good dude!
Zaxe Woodworks thanks buddy

Georgia has been doing me proud lately.
You need to come to Iowa Jay.
those style of miter stations take up so much room
Wow! Nice shop. I feel like an under achiever, but I'll get there. Great tour - right on?
Ben Birdsill thank you
Very nice shop~! Ditto on the abundance of natural light. Wondering if Jason would share the name of his wood source. I'm "down the road" from him at Fort Gordon, GA, and we have nada for woodworking in Augusta, so I'm often driving to specialty stores (Rockler, WoodCraft, Highland WW, etc...) for wood, supplies, and such. Also, thanks for turning us on to his channel~!
Andrew Brown I use Suwannee lumber
Very nice shop i use my apron like a rag lol
Great layout for a medium sized shop. I loved the comment "who payed for all this equipment?" Good job.
what was his answer, couldn't understand
@@krizm he paid for all of it, no donations.
I put every dollar I made back into my shop till I was happy.
Right on right on right on
Great shop tour and now I have another woodworker to follow. I'm guessing you shot this while you were in town for the two Rockler visits?
re: the Jessem Clearcut, it's awesome. I attached mine to a piece of wood cut to fit inside the top of the sawstop fence. Then I put a magswitch from rockler on each end. It's been completely stable but the magswitches let me pop it on and off as needed (vs screwing it to the fence).
This is exactly what i did as well. Just for people who don't know, like I didn't, magswitch makes a forstner bit for cutting out recesses that fit the magswitches.
@@christobar Cool, I didn't know that.
Great idea! Have a link to the magswitches you used?
@@JayBates2 I picked them up from Rockler, I don't know if it was needed, but I went with the 150lb version: www.rockler.com/magswitch-magnetic-jigs-magswitch-magjigs Credit goes to Dave Stanton for the idea: czcams.com/video/zMYbMbTJdH0/video.html
Must be the most successful woodworker of all time if he made this much profit in 2 years!!
He's got the money!!
Are those home depot red polyurethane casters? I have had 2 table saws and a workbench set on those things. They are wonderful!
That is quite a shop! And so clean! Clearly, a lot of work has gone into "tuning" this shop.
One thing: you're probably losing a lot of dust collection capacity by using small diameter hoses/ducts straight from the dust collector inlet. There are also some sharp bends in flex duct. My planer has had a sharp bend in its duct for years, so I don't necessarily practice what I preach, it seems, just thought you might want to know.
B May I agree. It’s constantly changing and was not meant to be permanent. I’m trying to see what works before I commit to spending a lot of money on proper duct work
@@bentswoodworking I know it's a contentious topic, but I personally think metal is better for dust collection ducting, as it's more durable and doesn't have static electricity issues (I think it says something that plastic ducting doesn't exist in factories). If you ever decide to go with metal, ignore what the $$-having people say and skip the fancy seamless ducting with the flanges. I used regular HVAC ducting in my shop and it works just fine, though it does require more effort to seal it up. But it's waay cheaper and far more readily available. Just an FYI. Nice shop!
B May I totally agree. I look forward to upgrading to metal in the future.
I was hoping to see what was in the mini-fridge and what brew Jason was drinking....SweetWater?
Great looking shop and Right on,Right on, Right on,
Matt
Right on.
Nope, it is Creature Comforts Tropicalia IPA
Bent's Woodworking nice! I’m out in Colorado so I’ve only gotten to try one of their IPA’s during the Great American Beer Festival a couple years ago
Drinkin some Tropicalia During the tour. I LIKE IT!!! ;-)
John Schneider oh yeah 🤣
Question on your router table. I built my own table. The top as well. I built the cabinet but haven’t installed any drawers yet. It is framed out basically like yours. The space under the router with two draws to the right. Under that space it’s just open. So my two questions, first how is your dust collection setup. I have a 3” port in the back and when I run the router I use a piece of cardboard to cover the front with about an inch slot across the bottom for air flow. It works pretty good except when I turn off the collector the cardboard drops off and of course slides under something. So I am wondering how your collector is setup and how well it works. The second question is how are you using the drawers and would you change anything. Sorry for the long post. Thanks. P.S. your shop is real nice.
That is very cool that you both built the New Yankee Workshop miter station. Another win for Norm Abrams...lol.
That's a negative. Neither one of ours is based upon Norm's.
That video was "Right on!"
Jesse Moree 🤣
Jay and Jason: thanks for the shop tour. Lots to think about even without an income stream that would buy the great tools. You guys have some great timbers in North America.
Thank you Greg!
Incra LS super is truly in a class of it's own . BUT the positioner has little ability to keep the wonder fence held down to the table surface . (lift it ) you will see why you MUST anchor the fence to the table OR the Jessem guides will not be able to securely hold the stock and prevent any kick back . Minor problem .
All these shop tours seem to show shops that look like they never get used not an ounce of dust on anything.
Walks into store: “Hi what tools do you have?” “Great I’ll take them...”
Another awesome shop tour of another AWESOME shop, Jay. I am envious of the shop space, yet glad he has built this (business) from scratch and apparently done well.
I have a question for either/ both of you: What height do you recommend for the miter saw worksurface (measured at the aluminum turntable? It seems that most TS setups and outfeeds are roughly 35" (plus or minus), and band saws are 40- ish. I am sure it varies by person and their preference/height, as Jason appears to be a bit taller than Jay. I am right at 6' tall and every basic MS setup I have done is around 38-40", as it seems the most comfortable, without partially stooping. Thoughts?
Andrew Bieger I think you answered it yourself. To me it’s more about comfort. Like the assembly table I built is 38” tall which is comfortable for me.
@@bentswoodworking Thanks for the response and keep up with the good work. I see many sources for inspiration from your shop.
Andrew Bieger thanks so much
24×20 shop. Cool, mine is the same size. I see there's hope that it can be set up really well. Mine was built as a garage so the door (16') takes away from wall space, unless I don't open the door or do like Wood Whisperer and build a wall in front of it. My "shop" also houses my lawn mower and all the outdoor stuff. I need to build an addition and move that stuff out.... baby steps...
Question on dust collection pipe: why not use 2 45s in the places you have 90s?
Bob C I used what I had on hand. I have just been too lazy to change it 🤦🏼♂️😂
@@bentswoodworking gotcha😁
"I just went blank there" about the maple. You don't strike me as speechless often, so that got a laugh.
WHOA. TIL Drillnado.
Jason, beauty shop. Did you build it specifically for woodworking? And the floor, plywood over concrete or? Thanks! And keep up the great work.
Sean Henry I didn’t build the actual shop but the guy that built it was also a woodworker. It was quite a bit different before and no it’s not on concrete unfortunately. Wish it was
@@bentswoodworking why is the plywood over concrete better? Im looking at a shop that has a concrete floor and was thinking about adding plywood. Awesome shop
Chris Land I don’t like the wooden floors. I want concrete.
All the 90° bends in the dust collection, doesn't that cause issues with suction?
He likes the incra router table setup so much... Curious to know why he doesn't have incra fence on the table saw.
I did on my last TS. Here it is strictly a space issue because I know have the end of my table saw against the wall. When i move to my new shop next year I will be adding it.
Really nice shop...he needs a nice oak floor on top of the subfloor.
Nice shop tour. Jason if you are seeing this I was wondering if you were in the Army? I also live in Georgia, but I'm in south Georgia in Savannah.
Michael Root I am. I’m a ROTC instructor at UNG
@@bentswoodworking I was an 11B Bradley Master Gunner.
Michael Root I am also a Bradley MG. 👊🏼
@@bentswoodworking That is cool. What year did you go through the course?
Michael Root 2007
Wow, what an amazing shop. Have you kept track of how much you have in equipment and accessories?
Zach Budano thank you. Yes, I have a rough idea.
I'd hope so. Every woodworker with any kind of equipment should be keeping receipts/purchase logs in case of an unfortunate accident or loss. For me, that means scanning every receipt over $20 into a Drive folder.
NayNay I have receipts for everything as it’s my business
Where do you keep your extra or spare wood pieces you don't use on the projects you bought them for?
Philip Ruhland my garage mostly
Alright
I'm always curious what phrase you'll repeat during the shop tours. On this one it's "right on". With your neighbor's shop it was "fancy".
I was waiting for your opinion on the Saw Stop table saw but it got skipped. Powermatic versus Saw Stop? Any opinions?
I have all powermatic except for the saw. It is a remarkable table saw. The safety feature is a nice added bonus.
Jason: given you have used the MFT without its leg supports, in hindsight would you get a Parf guide II and make your own table and top instead?
Absolutely not. I got the MFT so I can take it to the jobsite as well.
Bent's Woodworking . Ah. It looked like it was a permanent home there.
I was wondering if everyone thinks you need the ground wire on the vacuum hoses
Right on! lol
Lucas Black 🤣
Jason is a good Dude! We’ve followed each other for quite a while now and i was fortunate to meet and hang out with him at WBC19 He’s got a Fabulous shop setup!!!
Dimensionswoodworks thanks brother!!
Only thing missing is a Walnut Cup holder. Sooooooo jealous - such a nifty shop
“Right on”
For sure.
Can we get a “right on” count
I should have asked when I posted a comment a few minutes ago... what brand of chisels does Jason use?
Woodriver
Jason just a couple of questions.....Who is your wood supplier in GA. (I am in Jacksonville, Fl and COULD come that way if it's not TOO far). Also, as much as you love Incra (I do too) I notice no Incra fence on the table saw. Any particular reason? Thanks. Awesome shop by the way.
befmx31 thank you. I use Suwannee lumber as my supplier primarily. As for the fence, I had one on my last saw and love it. With the sawstop I just haven’t got around to ordering one cause then I’ll have to find alternate ways to mount things
Thanks.
I believe John Denver has, or had, the record for saying, " right on ", per hosting the tonight show. Millennials will have to ask their parent's?
Take a shot every time he says right on
