The Dam - An Extreme E Bike Climbing Challenge | World's Steepest Climb

- We thought we’d found the craziest E Bike climb after visiting the slab in Bristol, then the rock in North Wales. We've been searching since then for somewhere to push the boundaries even further…
Standing at over 100 metres high and at an angle of 46 degrees the Malaga dam might just be a step too far.

Sick! Didn't think that would be possible to be honest, nice one!!
Imagine drifting down this on the trike 🤯
Now you have to do it! and clear a 3 gazillion foot gap backwards!, we admire you sam, you can do anything you put your mind to! so as soon as this quarantine ends, let´s go to Malaga:)
No grab bomby on the tall bike 🤣
46° thats cray cray
Need to wait until Crack A Mone O'clock
Surprised to see you climbing my grandparent's way to school!
Haha!
I'm sure the way back from school was exactly that same steep climb with snow and ice up to the waist and a huge headwind both ways.
@@dushk0 Not to forget the
wolfes and bears they had to deal with.
@@therealcbumstead April 1st
That's easier than they told me
Would love to see someone take this on using a non ebike for a comparison
The footage made it look like something you could achieve on a rigid road bike
Not possible
Love to see it tried nonetheless.
There are ebikes that are much more powerful than this, starting at what 5000 euro. They can go 100 K/M iirc.
or motorcycle for that matter
Why would anyone put a thumbs down to this video? i mean it does what it says on the tin so not sure what they are expecting, some really odd people out there
And this is why we should never underestimate the magic of a E bike. 😁. I recently purchased a 2020 Giant Fastroad E ( I live in the United States) . I usually ride in Economy mode ( this way I do most of the work) but I was out on a long ride a few days ago but didn’t realize how strong the wind was blowing so I switch to the Power mode ( now I usually try to maintain a pretty fast cadence at Around 70 - 80 % of my max) ... well I went from 17 mph to 22- 24 mph. Now here in the United States the 2020 Fastroad is considered a class 3 ebike so it will assist a rider up to 28 mph.
Mines assists upto 99mph hahahahaha
I will give myself a pat on the back for being first... to comment, not climb this ridiculous slope - Awesome effort...
Chris: I'll just roll down it now... does nose manual down 46 degree concrete incline whilst still not wearing much protective gear...
You made that look DAM easy...
You can see your way out sir 🤨
Ahhhhh, I see what u did there. 😂
dam, son!
Damn!
@@dushk0 you can follow Mr Williams out
Really crazy climb, we love EMBN pushing the limits!!!
You could at.least wear gloves. Maybe something more...
Yeah i would wear full body armor bullet proof XD
Fantastic effort! A real 'watershed' moment in EMTB climbing!

Respect! And awesome demo of what these 250w eMTBs can do! - Shared to "eBike Smile eMTB Community" fb group
Well! I got my turbo levo 2020 at the weekend. Oh! My! God! What a bike! Chuffed to bits!
That is absolutely insane. Great job!
Everytime I pass by the dam on the motorway, I give it a quick look and say, one day!!! Lol
Really love climbing with my Decoy, it makes the impossible possible so easily
Absolutely brilliant, well done ,never gave up
I feel like it might be possible on a regular bike with extremely low gear ratios, with bars dropped really low, nose of saddle dropped way down. Combine that with a rider that has supreme fitness with lots of experience on steep climbs.
Blake Beyett if the gearing is that low, wouldn’t you not have enough speed to be stable? I’d think you would just tip over
yeah and do extreme zig zags it wouldnt be too hard
Put a ratchet on the rear wheel.
You could do it in a regular MTB. Not me but I bet regular MYBers could.
On such a steep climb torque is a bigger concern than drag.
Proper equipement, proper technique, proper physical ability and proper mentality took you up the summit, Bravo for reaching your goal 👍
Thanks Rejean!
Imagine the death grip challenge on that. Scary
Dam! That made my palms sweat.
Great job ⚡️💪🏽⚡️
Appreciate it! ⚡️
I can imagine this type of work puts a huge strain on those electric components / motors. Would this type of stuff cause damage to an e-bike?
Possibly not as this is what it's made for, don't forget that the motor is only assisting, you are doing most of the work, i do suspect that this would be different if it was pure motor and not under pedal power, the e8000 is a 250 watt motor and what a motor it is awesome, very impressive...
If you have a decent bike it shouldn`t, because a 800 Watt bike for example should support all 800 watt of power without getting damaged from it. When you build a motor it should handle its full performance without any problems. A motor with 70nm of torque should have components that can easily handle 70nm of torque, otherwise why would you build a 70nm motor onto a frame that can only handle 50? Would be a bad manufacturer.
Finally something steeper than the streets of San Francisco! San Francisco's steepest recorded street is 43 degrees.
Are you sure? Quick google search is saying steepest street in san francisco is 31,52% which is barely over 17 degrees.
@@maximemineault8117 search "real steepest streets of san francisco"
Although it is percent, not degrees. Many of SF's steepest streets are not documented.
Some of those are just sidewalks, not actual driveable streets.
holy moly! That's incredible!
Bravo captain brave, I doff my cap to you Chris, that looks crazy
Had my heart in my mouth all the way. Respect!!!
Thanks Dave! So did we!
WOW Great Success, excellent ebike Canyon Spectral ON 9.0 But the realty is it's the
Ability of the rider, impressive.
Chris your a legend man!
That was a tough one for sure...nice!!!
Awesome!! Great job!! DD
Very nice Chris. I think i won´t do that cause this injury that occured on another climb challenge a few days ago. My respect to you.
I was on the edge of me seat! Great video
Great vid 👍
Bloody brilliant Chris. Love these climb challenges.
Super górka i jazda BRAWO!!!!
AWESOME!
i’ve personally tackled this climb and it’s a lot bigger then it looks well done
nothing a unicycle couldnt easily handle
Well done!
Nice one mate
My lord! Great job!!
Awsome 🤘
Well done, that took guts!
Anyone else get anxiety when he does a stoppie down it ? Lol
Yep!
@@embn maniac!😀🤘
I don't have an E bike ,can't afford one but I really enjoy watching watch you do.Thanks for the material.
This surely helps as an easy entry to downhill mtb. Im sure it will help the mtb community and not ruin it.
That had my heart going just watching from the couch, amazing stuff!
29" on the front & 27.5" on the back, would 29" on the back and 26" on the front had made it easier?
Hell of a climb! Good job!!
Cheers! Very happy to get up it twice!
NICE VIDEO GUYS!!!
Cheers Nikolaj!
Holy birds eye view, that's incredible.
Your legs must of been on fire🔥good job🤟
Chris didn't go back for third try 😂
Nice one chris
Great job Chris. I’ll take my hat of for you. What heartrate did you have on top?
Proud of you bro
Didn’t look very steep until he went downhill with the rear easily floating.
Wow, I’ve done steep long climbs on a non-motorized bike and saw stars dancing around my head from exhaustion. (Always ride with a partner on extreme ride conditions. It’s just not worth the challenge)
Yoooo boys 🤘🏽
Well this is pretty amazing and shows that ebikes are not lame at all 😎👍👍👍
GREAT!!!
Sick!
This made my hands sweaty..
Even a Landrover Defender would be is on it's limit here!! Good job! Well done!!
GREAT....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great video. Crazy steep! This is not a dam btw, its a spillway👌🏻
Should have taken the Kenevo.......that long geometry would help you keep the front wheel down, and also 90nM or torques. Pro-tip, drop the seat post before starting a steep climb out of the seat like that, so you can get your foot down when you bail. Also, armoured gloves.
Mr Scrofulous Why not Flyon with 120Nm that’s even more powerful ... but it seems he was able to do it with the Spectral/E8000 70Nm so it’s a mute advice...
@@tamasvarga67 The flyon comes with a massive 40-42t chainring stock so they'd have to change it.
Wow 😲 nice !!!
Cheers Danny!
well done chris
Hectic, I got really nervous for you there. Can I suggest that you encourage wearing safety gear. Even better, like with extreme off-roading they use a safety line to help prevent flip overs. You know this challenge type videos will encourage a whole host of thrill seekers to try it, so at the very least add a disclaimer mate!
Oh and ps, well done for making it up that thing, looks insane!
Respect 🤙
omg i am shitting my pants watching this. much respect for that feat
So what kind of watts are you putting down to climb this?
Top!!!
Increbable well done.
Cheers David!
Wow ...I wouldn’t of thought that possible
With a Bosch, it goes up on its own ;)
Like a motorcycle, I guess
@@michaljambor7772 Not really, they are powerful, but most of the power seems to go to motor whine.
Danny McAskill would have ridden up the top of the wall for a challenge. 😁
Cant believe you're brave enough to endo down that
As much effort as I put in getting out of bed. ⚡🔥
Didn’t look easy mate😂 nice job👍 have you thought about doing it on a non assisted bike?
Nice one!, you could also lower the pressure on the forks or get a smaller front wheel, it helps me climb stairs:)
5:17 The dam gates open and u hear water gushing 🌊
Ffffffuuuuuuccccckkkkkkkkkkk
It so scary... riding down on the front wheel
You’d get a nice bit of regen on the way down with a hub motor 😀
great!
Kind of spoiled it for me when I realised it was on an electric bike
Sick
Great effort Chris Maybe some New Gloves from the Easter Bunny soon if your lucky
Sweet! question, could you do this with a standard hill climb bike, or is it impossible without the assist? P.S. there are great dirt bike glove that are very airy that would protect your finger better.
No only e mtb can handle this torque
Hey embn, how do we ask you questions, I need your expertise on modifying my HT turbo levo.
You can ask us questions by using the hashtag #askembn
Nice work! What's your low gear? What chain ring?
shitting pants while going up but doing wheelies the way down :D respect
thats climb is slightly over 100%, envisioning conversations with roadies
That looks DAM scary 😄
😂😂😂
when he first turned the corner I thought. That doesnt look to bad. then I realised it was the "WALL" in the distance he was talking about, not the gradual incline to start with! OMG I would have no chance.
Sam Pilgrim was on this a couple of months ago but coming down :D
I wonder how the e-bikes would fare on the way down
@@chengyousong7486 I wouldn't go up this or down on my e-bike :D
I thought so, but wasn't sure if it was the same place.
What was Chris’s heart rate as he did this he looked spent at the end ?
wow!
I HAVE TO SAY WHAT A GREAT CLIMB THAT WAS. SO THE TYPE OF BIKE PLAYS A BIG PART ALSO HUH?
That's not the top 🤦♂️it's the top of that bit 😂 still bloody impressive 👍✌️
Now back up and try that nose manual all the way down again, then back up again if you dont get it,lol🤣
Hey Embn! Is that the stock gearing on that ebike? Or was the front sprocket changed to a smaller one or the cassette a larger one? Next time that info should be in the vid! I live at the base of the north shore mountains in Vancouver British Columbia Canada and I had to change the cassette and front sprocket of my Bulls Monster E FS to more uphill friendly gearing! There are some very steep fire roads around here! Ride ride ride!
Hey Eric! Good point! Stock gearing on this guy! 34 tooth ring with a (we think - don't have it with us right now to reference) 11-50t cassette 🤘
@@embn It's an 10-51 casette, SRAM, Sunrace and Ztto make the 11-50 casette. This is a Shimano one.
Why would you not have an ebike, Chris nice work 💪✌
