    I just recently purchased this item from Garmin. As much as I love my Garmin Instinct original, I really like the activity display and training metrics my Fenix 6 collects. This way I can this use my Instinct to broadcast my HR to the Fenix on my MTB.
    Thank you for another great video. You never disappoint.

    Ok, that Casio watch 😍 Glad it's getting so much usage. It's interesting that these quickfit bike mounts are slightly different than Garmin's older triathlon quick fit stuff that comes with the tri bundle. I know that the 945LTE not working with that tri quick release system has been a deal breaker for some people. I love that you went down this rabbit hole. Thanks for making this one!!!

    This probably works great for the MIP displays, but just a heads up for anyone looking to do this with an Epix - it doesn't seem to be possible to stop the screen from dimming after the timeout parameter (longest is 15s I believe). For me personally, where I usually ride, the watch screen isn't readable once the screen dims, so I have to reach down and push a button or touch the screen to wake to read, which can be dangerous while mountain biking.
    I bought an 840 and had issues that led to returning it - bought this and was hoping to use my Epix instead, and it works, but has enough friction that I probably won't be doing it long term. If I had a Fenix still (so the screen would be visible all the time on the handlebars) I'd probably be happy enough with this long term to not be tempted back to a dedicated bike computer.

    ALSO !!!!!!! if you double wrap your bar tape all the way to the stem you can just strap the watch directly to the bars. been riding with mine like that for years and its super easy and reduces pretty much any possibility of the watch coming loose.

    Before Garmin had this solution I took and old Fenix 3HR charger, dremeled a bit of the charger port and slabed a quarter turn sticker to it. It fitted very well on my F5X / 6X. Now that this is out I ordered it about a month ago and it's much more elegant.

    The main reason why I changed from cycling computers to wrist bike computers to call it somehow, is because during a mountain bike competition I had a crash and the thing fell off and I didn't notice, lost some bucks there, it was a Polar. Now I have a Garmin Fenix 6 pro and it feels more secure with something strapped to your wrist. I practice road cycling now. Something else with a watch you wont have the risk of someone walking away with your cycling computer while the bike is parked. Anyway thanks for the video, good to know there are all these options.

  • @scientia_potentia_est
    @scientia_potentia_est Před 2 lety +7

    This is by far the best solution available. Thanks for this super useful video!
    The next best solution would be getting an Edge and using Extended Display Mode, but at that point you might as well just use the bike computer and connect it to whatever external sensors (i.e. HR straps, cadence, etc.) you have.
    Would be super cool (and I would pay big $) if Garmin had the same Extended Display Mode but for their iPhone/Android Apps, and also included all data screens in addition to full maps/navigation features like Strava Live Segments and Course Nav. Put an anti-glare screen, and that would literally turn your phone into the most powerful bike computer that has ever existed lol bc you get data from all Garmin sensors and Course navigation in a huge display and you can also control music, have quick access to Google Maps whenever needed, etc.

  • @robj3773
    @robj3773 Před 2 lety +17

    Des thanks for exploring this... My solution in the past has been to simply wrap an old sock around the handlebars and strap the watch over that. That increases the handle bar diameter and provides padding too.

  • @hardmtnbiker
    @hardmtnbiker Před 2 lety +1

    I did the watch mount for years but this started back when my Polar watches didn’t have HR sensor on the watch. The older models all required a HR strap.
    I honestly think that the “value” from a Garmin Edge 130 or 530 is almost all the same features as the Fenix but half the price. You just need a HR sensor and of course you won’t get all the off bike data.

    45+ here. The advantage of having a watch on your wrist is that it can get as close as possible to your eyes when you are checking the data/maps. On the handlebar, as I do MTB, I find it to be less visible forcing me to get close with my head to the handlebar to check the data, not really ideal.
    I am old I know.

I currently run a Edge 530 with a HRM-Pro chest strap, with a Epix 2 on the way. I understand Physio Trueup will enable syncing, but is it smart enough to prioritize the best measurement of each? For example Im a MTB'r I therefore use the Edge for jump tracking, flow, grit, Strava segment tracking, and of course the HRM-Pro for HR. If i now add the Epix to the mix will I be able to also get live PulseOx (VO2 Max), PacePro, Real-Time Stamina etc. Yes I like data :) Do you use the screen mirror function? Which is best to set as primary etc.

      It comes with a quarter turn mount for your handlebar like you can see at 3:52. Then there are tons of other kinds of quarter turn mounts that are available depending on your application.

    Interesting video. I just checked: I have a Garmin Fenix 7X Sapphire Solar and a Garmin HRM Pro and apparently it is impossible to connect the HRM to two devices at the same time. So if you want to use the HRM Pro on your Fenix then, which bike GPS should you get then, since it doesn't need to be connected to the HRM strap? So actually the bike GPS should only be used for the maps.

    • @DesFit
      @DesFit  Před 11 měsíci

      Hmm, I connect my HRM Pro/Pro Plus to multiple devices via ANT+ on a daily basis (Garmin or otherwise). Are you connecting via bluetooth and possibly having a connection with your phone at the same time?

    • @karelvdd
      @karelvdd Před 11 měsíci

      @DesFit
      No. I don't have a bike computer. I just googled and it said the HRM Pro can not connect to multiple devices at the same time. It must be connected to the Fenix 7 via Ant+ since theFenix is connected to my phone via BT.
      I was just wondering which bike computer is the best for mais and connecting to the Garmin Connect app only then. The 1040 must definitely be too much. Touchscreen is not necessary either. The 130 might be to basic, no? 530 or 540 then maybe?

      @@Bombolotska On my Epix 2 it is always on but not with full brightness, so it will dim after the selected timeout. I think they only turn on every second pixel and move these to prevent burn-in. It only it on full brightness when I touch it or press a button. So I wouldn't worry too much.
      Usually the dimmed display is bright enough to see the information on the bike.

    I'm curious if anyone has made native out front mount for these watches, not an adapter. Seems odd that there are 2 bars in the quick fit system that seem secure and robust, that they just mount the flimsy quarter turn tabs via an adapter, also increasing the stack height.
    Anyone already doing that or do I have to build my own as usual 😆

      Yup, the Tactix can pair to any power meter that has ANT+ or BT (which the SRAM has). You can then add tons of different types of power related data fields like power, average power, 3 second average power, normalized power, etc… The list goes on and on! Thanks

    What I would really need for this use case is a Strap that continues under the watch, with a cutout for the sensor, so I can pop out the watch, but still keep the strap on my wrist. It's quite annoying otherwise.
