Stratocaster Blender mod - The best Stratocaster mod?

- The stratocaster blender mod gives you 7 sounds from your strat which is why it's often referred to as the 7-way mod or 7-sound mod. You get the standard 5 positions then Neck & Bridge together and all 3 pickups together. In reality you actually get more sounds than that as you can blend either the neck or bridge into those 2 new sounds.
The Strat blender mod can be done without buying anything extra for your guitar but I personally do it using a 250k no-load pot instead of the second tone pot (nearest the edge of the guitar). this leaves the volume as a master volume and the tone as a master tone.
This Stratocaster mod makes your Fender Stratocaster or Squier Stratocaster just that bit more versatile as you can dial in the neck pickup when you're playing on the bridge or dial in the bridge pickup when you're on the neck settings. You're even able to have all 3 pickups of your Stratocaster on at the same time in positions 2 and 4.
This is a great easy mod you can do to any stratocaster. I've currently got this on my Squier Affinity Stratocaster but would also love it on my Fender Player Telecaster. it doesn't take long to do and it's one of the best Stratocaster mods.
Other great Stratocaster mods include having the pickups wired in series like a humbucker and adding an out of phase setting. If there are comments requesting these Stratocaster mods then I'll make a video on them in the future.
Could this be the best Stratocaster mod? In my opinions it's one of the easiest and most effective Strat mods so yes. In fact it's the only mod I currently have on any of my Stratocasters.

I regularly use a similar mod using a standard pot instead of a No Load pot. Mine only allows the bridge to blend because I link the Bridge tag on the switch 1 to the Output on switch 2, then run the Neck position tag on switch 2 to the middle lug [2] on the blender pot (with lug [1] to Earth/Ground) and lug [3] to lug [3] on the Volume pot connected to the hot Output jack. Your mod is more versatile, so thanks for sharing. I love all 3 pickups on as it adds more "cluck". Great tones BTW. Nice down to earth presentation too.
Would love to see an illustrated schematic of your setup. Cheers!
I do this too and I also swapped the bridge pickup of my Fat '50s with the middle pickup so that it will hum cancel in the neck+bridge combo (sacrificing hum canceling in neck+middle, oh well, that's my least used position anyway). If you wanted to sacrifice bridge+neck instead, just swap the neck and middle instead. (Might matter if you have a highly overwound bridge that stands out in other positions. The one on my Fat '50s isn't so overwound that I notice any issue.) Note that this only works with pickup sets that have a RW/RP (reverse-wound/reverse-polarity) middle pickup.
Oh and put a no-load pot on the tone too. Then you can get the straight-out "ice pick" sound that standard (vintage) Strat wiring provided. (Modern non-reissue Strats are usually wired so the bridge and middle share the 2nd tone knob.) It not only lets you adjust bridge tone but also have that straight-out option for every pickup instead of just hard wired on the bridge.
I really like the idea of a blend knob
Any clue where someone can get a knob that's says Blend instead of tone/volume?
I got mine back from the shop with this mod today (I tried doing it myself buy apparently I'm a moron). I was a bit confused by the '10 is off' aspect. It seems counter-intuitive. But the sound is amazing. It's easily the most logical way to wire a Strat.
Love it! This mod is quite complicated in fairness. The ‘10’ aspect is due to the no-load pot.
Such a great mod and so many extra sounds. How are you finding it?
I also think it’s better having just the master tone on a strat anyway
I like this mod and funny thing my strat looks amazingly like yours. I would prefer the tone knob bypassing the neck pickup and being just for the bridge and middle. But can't find this wiring diagram. Great vid Thanks.
I just did this mod using your wiring diagram. Absolutely amazing! I'm loving the new tones. Great video, great diagram...made it easy to wire this up. Thanks.
I have a Vintage Guitar Stratocaster with 3 P90 my tech suggested a blender pot, but he will need to add a tone control to the guitar since it only had volume and one tone, but now watching this I cannot wait to hear it all those extra tonal options with a blender knob
That’s an unusual but very interesting strat setup. A blend pot would make that seriously versatile
@@PherotoneStudios Fender has their alternative series but this is a true alternative series guitar, it was design byTrevor Wilkinson for Vintage it's different that's for sure the P90's are stacked Wilkinson's, this will be the first phase of the upgrades, the next in the following months the P90's will be upgraded but these are great P90's but why not take it to the next level with decent stacked P90's , any suggestions for stacked 90's which are hum cancelling,
How did you find a knob that said "blend" on it? I can't find one anywhere!
Oh no. You’re going to hate this. I drew a black circle over the top of the pot in a programme called Canva, then just added the text in a similar font.
Think it says tone in real life. Sorry
I have been looking for a knob that says Blend/Blender for years, wish they were available somewhere as I have 4 Strats with that blender mod.
Great work ! I would love to ask, what kind of pickups are you using ?
Thank you.
can this blended in series wiring?.
I'd love to do this with Peter Green-style out of phase humbuckers sometime. Never heard of anyone doing it, but it sounds useable.
That would be a cool Les Paul mod. You can make one tone the master and turn the other into a blend pot. Flip the magnet in one pickup so they’re out of phase and job done
@@PherotoneStudios I already have a LP-junior type guitar with a master volume and tone, so I'm thinking of just switching the pickup selector out for a blend knob, kinda like a Jazz Bass.
Can I use the stock Pots that come with my guitar instead of replacing it with no load pot?
Thanks
What do the two vertical lines mean on the tone pot? Great vid btw
Ah, that’s the capacitor
If blend wiring can still use the master tone for bridge pickup?
I'm really considering doing this to a Nashville Telecaster project I'm working on. Would I be able to use the top knob of a stacked pot as a no-load?
But the neck + bridge combination the pickups are in push-pull?
Really great mod.
Does anybody know if a Seymour Duncan JB Jr humbucker in the bridge, will work with the Mojotone blender wiring harness.
Where do I get a knob that says blend?
1:41 do you really solder everything only to one side of the 5-way?
Yep. Nice and simple. Wish I’d done this mod on my previous strats
Why would you go thru the trouble of making this video ad not let us hear how the 3 pickups sounded together when it was right at you fingertips? Good video though I'll be following your diagram. Thanks
Thanks mate. All 3 pickups is from 5:35 , I just labelled it incorrectly
@@PherotoneStudios thanks i will be getting the blender part tomorrow and give it a try!
Hi I was wondering if you might have a solution for the problem I am having following this diagram. I have double checked and triple checked and beyond. I have studied your diagram so much i could wire this without even looking at it again. I have a problem my volume control seems to be controlling my tone and my tone control is definitely acting as my volume. I have been back in forth checking my connection against your diagram and I am stumped. Everything else works absolutely fine except what i just described. Do you have any idea what I might have done wrong? Any help would be appreciated.
Stolen :-) Some nice tones
Nice. Such a great simple mod. I prefer it to having switches and the rest of it
Where do you get a "Blend" knob? I can't seem to find them anywhere.
amazon 250k no load potentiometer,
