      They are telling them to go to the market when the market is already packed to capacity, this is a very sad situation for these individuals just trying to support their families

      They do have a few places but they chose not to go there. Gambians have shown me the big empty fields designated for vendors

      There’s a market few meters from the overpass that can accommodate 1000+ vendors and no one is there, the market is now closed. But the real problem is that most vendors believe that, if they do not sell on the edges of the road they will not make lot of money. Sad but The whole country cannot be a market. I’m a Gambian and I live here so I know how important this operation is

  • @JD_Orka
    @JD_Orka Před 6 měsíci +20

    I am sympathetic to those who are affected by this action. However, the whole area from Brikama to Westfield was so congested due to these vendors obstruction of traffic and pedestrians that it was affecting the country's economic growth. Caused the streets to flood during rainy season and unnecessary accidents.
    Not to mention that the whole area looked like a flea market, and the trash was thrown into the streets.
    This is an economy dependent on tourism and who wants to see this wherever they go.
    I've heard Gambians state that inviting guess from outside the country was embarrassing for them.
    I am happy to see these changes.

      So true pretty much the whole country is congested it’s time to fix it, people just have to understand you can’t just set up anywhere to sell especially if you’re not the owner, I don’t think it’s fair to set up in front of a person who’s paying taxes storefront businesses the customer can’t get in the store because you have all your stuff in ther doorway, not right!!

    • @GodsChild1159
      @GodsChild1159 Před 6 měsíci +1

      People need trash containers and a garbage company like in the west. The only place to put trash is in the ground. If they had containers and trucks they could fine/ arrest people for littering.

      So do I because if not you’ll have all this genetically altered food making people sick. That Maggie stuff causes heart attacks and is banned in many European countries. Yet, they sell it in Africa. They are trying to reduce our numbers to takeover the continent easier.

In as much as we want our people to engage in business, it has to be in accordance with our laws. There’s no country where you can do whatever you want in the name of putting food on the table. The Tropic Shooping Center is still quite empty, and is not being utilized well.
    Why not charge approximately 100 dalasi per week and allow a few vendors to sell their goods in the empty floors/sections of that Mall, and other Malls.
    The flow of traffic may be a win+win for the prior local street vendors, as well as the Shopping Mall Investors.
    In addition, the Gambian Government can build a quick inexpensive Shed/building type of structure for these vendors.
    They can give the structure and the location a name, and then advertise its existence to the public.

    This is overdue. The government provided spaces for sellers, but they choose to not use market spaces. Congrats to the government and the police for enforcing laws. They need to go. You move them and they comeback. On the oppsite side of turntable they built a beautiful flea market beyond the police station. The sellers don't want to use the fleamarket space because it's away from the roads. So happy to see progress in a beautiful country.

      Nothing should ever stay the same, change is inevitable. I can understand the idea of keeping the tradition and what makes a place special. They should create a fresh market for vendors to go and sell. Each vendor can rent a booth each month if they want. Takes little to know money to create a space for them.
