Team Japa here. Once you realize that the world is your oyster, you have to look at what society gives you the best opportunity to strive the most.
That is why a lot of professionals leave. The opportunities are limited because society is designed against normal people who dont have "connections." That is the challenge.

Aliyu Audu you're not being honest. In 2003-2007 so many Nigerian graduates were employed in banking with a decent starting salary of 150k. Many Nigerians who went to the UK for masters took up security jobs and were making equivalent of 300k in Naira.
From 2008, 80% of these bankers were fired and have been suffering since. All of these thanks to corruption and mismanagement at the top. Many of these bankers could have japa'd when they had a good job but they had faith in the Nigerian economy.
Their mates that went to the UK have achieved a lot over the years and many of them have moved up from security jobs to white collar jobs all thanks to a stable and prosperous society that they found themselves in.
Nigerians are seeing that if you japa you're better off financially than 95% of your mates in Nigeria even if you end up as a security guard abroad. This is the reason why people are leaving Nigeria

Exactly. I feel we downplay that people just want to be people. Most people relocate because of the possibility of social mobility in the country they emigrate to. Better quality of life as well. Not everyone wants to be an entrepreneur or fight tooth and nail just to have food on the table. Some people just want a decent job and live an average life, which is far fetched for many Nigerians. There's just so much sentiment in these debates.

Living abroad is not all that glamorous except you make a lot of money. Most people abroad live from paycheck to paycheck. If you are comfortable in NIgeria, if you make good money over there, it's best to stay. Integrating abroad is also no joke. No matter what level you had risen to in Nigeria, when you relocate it's like hitting a "reset" button. You literally have to rebuild your career. Most important thing, do what makes you happy.

Life is not easy for most Nigerians abroad. Stop lying to Nigerians and making people believe that once you get abroad all your problems are solved. Nigerians should stop chasing money and get productive. Farm and keep animals/ chickens for eggs. This is what many Europeans do. Save money and stop wasting money unnecessarily. Most importantly stop wasting money building useless unpractical houses in villages. Or waste money on extravagant weddings and burials.

Blaming the westerners of "neo-colonialism" as an excuse for our failures is called "self-colonianism". It is the worst kind of colonialism because you a politician that saw his country in high level of employment, insecurity and massacre of her citizens, absence of power supply, harsh economy or starvation with thousands living in IDP camps in their country and the first thing they feel to implement is 160million each to purchase cars from another country whereas there are car manufacturing plants in Nigeria who are getting customers from govts of other African countries. They will be in America treating themselves and tell doctors to stay here with low income and low patronage with no assurance of security or not being kidnapped. 6billion is meant for car park while salaries are not increased. The VP starts buiding castles with 15billion and this is to be borrowed, and they said someone is colonising them, how? Nonsense!

In America or Europe with just high school graduates you can get a job to provide for yourself and your family.Until government can create jobs and basic social services Japa will continue to go on.

Your conclusion is for those who have no plans for their lives while they were in Nigeria. If you have a set goal for your life, you can start anywhere abroad, go back to school, develop your career, then you can be sure that your development will be appreciated. Your children will get better education; families left unproductive by our government back home, we restore back to life through our funding and supports. If you consider the amount of diaspora repatriations to Nigeria to give life to the already battered economy.
Those people who come back frustrated as you’ve only seen of the outcome of your japa’s story are those who didn’t properly utilize their transitional period. Just as I know those we left home impoverished and we still support after squandering numerous opportunities offered.

Getting medical treatment is becoming luxury then where is life? We have consistently witnessed one worst government to the next. Buhari government was bad then came Tinubu where is the hope . The only hope we had is to at least have a fair election but even that the youth are short changed so waking up realizing that we the millennials are all about to become fools at forty we Japa.

You must be a good smart criminal to make it big in Nigeria. Good connections can only lead you to prayer ministry, but ill-connection will make you rich in Nigeria. Everyone here in Nigeria wants to defraud the next person even a taxi driver. Dishonesty is the only and the best way to make it big as per Nigerian government standard of living. Criminality is legal in Nigerian constitution which is signed and approved by the three arms of the government. It is better for Nigerians to stop or minimize producing numerous kids. Breeding new kids is the only easy job in black Nigerian nation.

But seriously mr Federal politician, how much head start do u need to have in place the basic needs of our communities like functional health & water systems, infrastructure, public schools & transportation, etc? Thats y a lotta Africans r leaving the continent in pursuit of their own dreams. African officials need 2 stop with this nonsense of making lame excuses for their failures & incompetence. Nigeria's natural resources have ended up in the hands of a few elite Nigerians mainly through the corruption plague. These few elite have deliberately & selfishly decided 2 pursue their own dreams at the expense of their fellow citizens.
Corruption n embezzlement r some of Africa's chronic cancers that have literally brought Africa's economy on its knees, despite having an abundance of natural resources like no other continent! Thanks to our gluttonous politicians!
