I hope videos like these dont serve to make white ppl feel guilty, because we shouldnt. At least young people have no responsibility for the sins of the past. It is an important reminder however that not everything we have is from hard work and achievement, some of it was ruthlessly stolen from others and we need to be mindful of that before we adopt some kind of short sighted "bootstraps" philosophy that does nothing to help the disadvantaged.
In terms of reparations, i think the government should allow direct reparations only in clear-cut cases: my grandfather had his land unlawfully stolen, he has 13 direct descendants, the land is worth X amount today, we need to either be given our land back or paid what it is worth, with some modest interest.
For the majority of people with no such clear cut case, reparations should be in the form of community investment and affirmative action, things that reduce inequality in general.

What Adam says there at the end is important. To Mr. Whitey McHomeowner: it's not that you're racist for enjoying benefits of history benefiting white, you just need to be aware of it and act and vote accordingly. It's not your fault, until you try to propagate and expand the advantages you already have at the expense of others.
This needs to be shouted from the rooftops. People tend to not want to talk about it because they think people are saying they have personally done something wrong. You're only doing something wrong if you're not acknowledging it. Or if you're actively racist but thats a whole other thing.

Having lived in a majority white town and a majority non-white town (There was a mix of African Americans, Latinos, and Asians.) I can confirm that the stuff about the poverty rate and school systems is absolutely true. This episode helped explain things, but the end result was no surprise for me.
Gentrification: Redlining Strikes Back
I’m afraid you’re wrong. We’re not moving into the cities to protest segregation. We’re moving into cities because we can’t afford to live in the suburbs. Government and business budget cuts have taken away the jobs that gave our parents the money they used to buy their houses, so we are not making the money they made, no matter how hard we work. So in the future, white people are going to suffer from poverty.

They give ideas at the end of the episode.
One basic thing with schooling is to shift what level school funding is done at. Instead of getting taxes from the local community, pool all of that money and distribute more or less evenly.
Satirical answer: Duct tape.
That's a real problem because of course scholarships, insurances, jobs, and more can be given but in order for minorities to catch up we would have to be selective and forbidden those benefits to white people who haven't done anything wrong. That would be like fighting racism with more racism.
Is a complicated issue

@@-landon-9002 look at it like this, if you were purposely given a head start in a race that everyone is supposed to finish at the same time, the only way to catch up is if the one in front stops.
@@jameswright4999 NO, everyone is NOT meant to finish at the same time. Its equal opportunity not outcome. Equity is communist garbage. Lowering standards for people based on race is ACTUAL racism.
@fredleinweber2819 the finish line here represents success and the ability to pass down wealth and assist to future generations. The same time stipulation represents the average human lifespan.
@fredleinweber2819 everyone is not equal, realistically. But unfortunately, racists are in control. They don't broadcast the fact that they red-line people of color. I just seen a college application from 1958 that a person of color sent in and was denied because of skin color. It actually said it on the letter. These ppl are still in control to this day and in every state in our country and the world. Controlling every pubic service as a joint effort to keep a certain group behind, you can't deny the rat race is unfair.
I grew up in the south. After watching this episode of Adam Ruins Everything, it sounds like the south is way more integrated than the north.
I would say more white people in my school by a little so its about 30 percent white 28 percent mexican and 27 percent black rest is Other race's. But I dont know where to but my self becuase I am all three of those black mexican and white.
+datonz, that is actually more or less true. As ai moved around the USA as a kid that struck me up north it is X over here Y over there. Where in the south it is X across the street from Y as it were. IMO getting long is far more productive. And drives me nuts when people from the NE move down to the south and wont live in the nice neighborhood because it is to WHAT EVER WORD THEY USE, but you know what I mean. For the most part in the south WHO CARES IT IS THE NICE PLACE.
datonz
This is probably because from the beginning a lot of black people have lived in the South. After the slaves were freed black people didn't really have anything so they couldn't move up to the North (en masse). Then after that it's generational issues where parents had little to no money to pass on so it took longer to become successful.
It doesn't mean the South is less racist, it just means that they have better integration because they were kinda forced to.
+lizzy the owl, actually, you want to look at what the TRUE HISTORY is there. Many black people did move, and the NORTH FREAKED OUT. NYC unions lobbied to have anti-black laws to protect them self from black labor. Many northern cities still show the almost parties to this day. Northerners very much were more racist expecting the blacks to stay in the south where they belonged as it were. Don't get me wrong the south had bigotry and a 2 level system, but the north for a time as the migration started was so anti-black they wanted no black at all. What is truly disturbing on that front is in the south when you have that one guy in the neighborhood who is, well, a bigot: the neighborhood revels in making the bigot uncomfortable. Block parties and what not become the norm the cops and code look the other way no matter how many minor infractions you are breaking making the bigot cringe once they figure out what is going on Not so much up north. No up north the bigot can use cops and code to enforce bigotry and what not.
TheShowThatSUX what are you saying?
I'm currently attending college for Environmental Science. I share this video with instructors and peers anytime that environmental racism and injustice is brought up. Thank you for taking the time to put together this segment.
Its not fair! I didnt get to pick the color i started with!! ..... yeah no one does
I really like that he explained white privilege in a way that doesn't end with "all white people are racist"
Michael WIllis I think that's the point. You don't have to be racist, but acknowledging you have have had an advantage, due to your parents and grandparents being treated far, far better, and still experience better treatment in some areas than people who aren't white, helps a lot to fight those problems.
People on the right like to "confuse" the term "white privilege" with the accusation of being racist, while it is actually just factual, based on evidence. But websites and media outlets like fox or breitbart are so damn good at destroying the meaning of words, people now immediately think "crazy sjw" when they hear white privilege
Holy Water Muffin many?
Every white nation in the world benefits from Africa's existence. Without it your iPhone is nothing.
SJWs hijack the term "white privilege" and demonize white people which prevent us from taking actual solution
Is that a legitimate argument people say about the south, because your white and getting a leg up your racist? Clueless sure, that makes sense but racist?
Thiên Phúc Nguyễn Đình
Actually SJWs do absolutely nothing, saying that they actually hijack anything would mean that you're giving them credit.

FYI there was a school in Georgia that had it's first racially integrated prom in 2013. That's because it was the first in decades to be run by the school instead of one of the school's private donors.
I can appreciate this. Most modern white people aren't hateful towards minorities in the US, however they don't realize their advantage; this doesn't make you racist. if you simple tell people how they have been given a leg up without accusing them of wrong doing, they will be more receptive.
Betelgeuse So where did Asian privilege come from? Because most asians living in the US are recent immigrants who arrived with nothing, yet per capita they are better off by every metric compared to white people.
Asians were still majorly disadvantaged until the 1970's, by then immigration laws were changed to allow more educated Asians into the country and they were touted as the model minority, so they had it better than some other minorities. Asians are per capita better off than white people, but that is due to higher rates of college attainment. An Asian with an advanced degree still earns 5% less than someone white with the same degree. Asians are still underrepresented in upper management at companies.
Apatthetic Man Basically Asians on average place a higher emphasis on achievement and are harder working.
Archer not true
Recent Asian immigrant are actually very well educated and wealthy. Also back in the late 1800's they banned low wage Chinese laborers after the railroad and only accepts students and businessmen...
Archer its generational
A lot of black families send 1st time college students. Black families dont know about a lot of leg ups in system or even if their grades are good and get accepted they cant afford it.
More successful black families come from GENERATIONAL success because they have knowledge and resources at their disposal.
Whoever saying this show is anti white needs to stop. Look at this from another angle. It is not shaming you or blaming you for anything. It is telling you that the system was built racist. It is not your fault, but you have have the ability to recognize the fact and react to it.
Racism is a thing. We all have prejudice and it is because our surroundings and not because of our nature. If we can recognize the bias we have on sex, gender, race, sexual orientation and many more, we can see the world a little bit clearer.
now here is a man with basic inference skills. spread the good word dude
And we can teach future generations better. Even if you have no kids, chances are there's a kid in your life. When I worked as a cashier I tried to teach various things to folks. There are kids that were younger have I that I'm still in contact with from my high school days who remember stuff I told them 20 years ago.
you're wrong. the underlying thing here is to feel guilt for nothing we ever did. All of these nonsense that he spouts was from decades ago when the US was predominantly white. You can't expect any other country to do what this guy is saying. For example you would go over to japan, which chooses to be homogeneous and call them racist for not pandering to the ethnic minority. Face it you're just brain washed and I bet that 5 years ago you didn't think about this kind of thing. In fact nobody did because its a trend right now. If you really want to help the ethnic minority then stop pandering to a belief system that deals in the victim role where they are able to blame all of there problems to something they can't actually change and start taking action in their own lives because here in America there is no reason to why you can't make a good living and if you choose not to believe that then you're the problem. Not white America.
This is the exact point of history, learning from the horrid mistakes of the past to make a better future. Unfortunately, some people nowadays don’t realize that (or know a thing about history) and cause history to repeat itself.

I've been saying for decades that the way we fund our schools is inherently racist and stupid. The school system should have been federalized years ago with a standard amount of funding per child given to each school throughout the nation. If we fail to educate all our children then we fail as a nation. People always scream that a woman might be aborting a child that could cure cancer, but if we fail to educate the children that are here then the child who could have cured cancer might have been born a thousand times but never recived the right education to do so.
Ok, then you'll cut the average amount expended on non-asian minorities. Currently, we spend 2% more per pupil on black and pre-columbian students. As for federalizing education, it's not an enumerated power of the national government per the Constitution, even though publicly-provided school predates the revolution. State constitutions contain the free education provisions, and an Amendment to federalize the process would be opposed by left, right, coastal, mountain, and midwest communities alike. Pretty much only white socialists want a top-down federalized education system.
Dante Diamante I'm well aware of the fact that as an enumerated power of the federal government it would require a constitutional amendment. However when you state that 2% more goes to minority students, what mean is that currently 2% more of federal aid goes to minority students. The majority of school are funded through real estate taxes which means that significantly less overall money is going to minority students. As for being a white socialist you got that all wrong, I'm an African American with Libertarian leanings and actually came to my understanding of this social injustice through my studies of Thurgoode Marshall and the years of work he did to end segregation in schools. Ultimately even a federalized school system wouldn't completely fix the issues involved in our education but it would be a step in the right direction and one that many on the Right would support as it would greatly decrease the amount of employees they have to bring in from overseas.
Just like this comment
Yeah. Federal education. Because the idiots in D.C. know what my kids need to learn about. What a genuine thought but in practice a terrible idea. Less federal the better.

Some Nobody So what? When you go out into the world you don't have to worry about police, steroptypes and racial profiling. Minorities are systemically oppressed while you aren't, so you comparing a population of people who have struggled for decades to your predicament, which actually doesn't affect you in the grand scheme of things is ignorant. I understand your statement but it's riddled with personal experience not facts.
And lower-income people basically go to college for free. If the people in these "red" areas are primarily poor, they're the ones who can receive grants and aid to go to college at no cost so they can provide a better future for themselves. But most people in those red areas choose not to go to college, instead dropping out of school and choose more reckless behaviors when they have the opportunity to improve their lives right in front of them.
Lexi K You are honestly slow. Instead of trying to blame them with such a general statement, think about why they're there and how they got there. If you honestly think it's that easy to stay in school when their academic system is under funded your stupid. The African American crisis is much more complex then that. Stop trivializing their struggle in this predominantly white country. If all blacks had to do is stay in school then the world would be a better place, but we both know that isn't the reason black people remain in the ghetto. Secondly you will never ever understand a person of colors struggle with Culture, Society and beliefs.
This Country has almost always benefitted White people. Now I'm not saying America hasn't changed, I as a White person see that change. But we all have Rose colored lenses on, and project our experiences and idealogy without realizing that minorities are different from us socially, economically, and financially. This Country was built on European tradition and standards that has helped us get ahead of the rest.

I went through the 31 years of my life so far without without knowing ANYTHING about red-lining. But it suddenly explains a lot of things I saw in shows like Law & Order and the PJs.

Still waiting for someone to make this into a real boardgame
I love how honest but gentle Adam is tho
Me watching from the suburbs: Ha! Everyone’s white except for me.
Yeah you’re the one Black Friend
Adam dresses in a white tuxedo like he is about to attend a KKK meeting
It’s cremé
finally a new ARE
i waited alot
finally a longer episode it been strange with all the short episodes
Nero Vipus ikr
Nero Vipus they are only short because they have only been posting teasers to the episode (to make you tune into the actual show on tv)
I didnt realise it was a TV show I'm in uk and I don't watch TV but it makes sense
Try looking for Adam Ruins Everything on Amazon or Netflix. It's a really good show. These small clips are just a tiny taste of what a full episode has to offer.
America in a nutshell.
I had to watch this video to solve some questions for homework
Yo the kid killed me 🤣🤣🤣🤣
2:24 You do if you're playing that South Park RPG.
i want that board game

hello I am from the future, it’s called monopoly and its very fitting, monopoly was created to criticize capitalism
Just to clarify, basic judgement is a form of racism because racism isn’t exactly only race
The way it just cuts from the sad piano solo to the upbeat outtro tune…
I showed this to my sociology class and everyone was really impressed and shocked
Tie Phillips
A bunch of libtard “intellectuals” I assume

Video: Presents facts on racist policies and how they continue to impact minorities today.
Commenters: B-But I don't feel like racism exists so it must not. My feelings trump your facts.
Sly Goat The facts provided didn’t prove why systematic racism exists *today* & they were mostly taken out of context. There’s this thing called ‘individual accountability’ and Adam never discusses that when he “proves” why XYZ is oppressed (I.e. everyone faces obstacles in life & we have the equal opportunity to overcome them) And FYI, minorities make up .. a minority of the population - so no sxxx they aren’t gonna fill the suburbs.
Some ppl in this world just don’t put in the work to become highly successful - and b’c of intercity culture, many of those ppl are minorities. Ironically, it’s YOU that wants systemic racism to exist, so you can feel morally superior about your *feelings*. Truthfully tho, modern systematic-racism has been disproven countless times with facts that are actually put into context - but that doesn’t fit your biased narrative, so I’m sure you ignore all of that.
Is that sim music used around the 2:50 mark?
The fact that his name is Ron is the icing on the cake 😂👏🏻
Haha white man funny haha
I don’t get either of your comments
this is the saddest thing i've ever saw.
is it? I can show you more...
This is an excellent video to use to explain how racism has negatively affected society today.
Let's not forget the 2008 recession due to subprime mortgages issued to persons unable to maintain the properties and unable to make the mortgage payments.
I loved watching Jon Stewart smacked down Bill-O about Levittown.
I love the “Things were once racist therefore their still racist” attitude. Really, it’s not pompous at all.
No it isn't. Pointing out problems with current systems is the first step in changing them.
Also it isn't "Things were once racist therefore their still racist”
it's "Things were once racist and are still racist”
im guessing you watch sinatra says
*they're
Sorry but I'm a facts over feelings guy and I see no evidence supporting your claim.
Devcron do you mean the guy at the top?
Dog With A Blog Dad!

i'm disappointed in humanity.
The only part I didn’t know about was that the highways were built to go through black middle class towns.
lol I watched this in my social studies class
This is why I like living in Canada
lol *looks at you in First Nations*
Sigma Canada actually has a large population of Asians, African Americans, and Arabians
Times have changed. It's not like this anymore at least not in the suburbs I live in.
You live in 1 suburb out of thousands
That's anecdotal evidence. It literally proves nothing.
waste of water? I lived in houses with yard for all my life (im 49 and a half) even when i lived in Los Angeles where it hardly rains (the dodgers went 7 years without a home game Rain delay) I never had to water my lawn.
But what do we do now? That is the big question.
Is that the guy from Dog With A Blog?
When a kid understands economy better than you.
at my school it was about a 50/50 divide between black and white and our school had everything she mentioned
