      Long-term marijuana abuse can lead to physical and psychological marijuana addiction. Heavy, long-term marijuana users develop physical dependence on the drug and withdrawal symptoms upon quitting. Marijuana withdrawal symptoms typically include irritability, sleeplessness, anxiety, impaired appetite and aggression.
      Drug-impaired driving will also increase if marijuana is legalized. Marijuana is already a significant causal factor in highway crashes, injuries and deaths. In a recent national roadside survey of weekend nighttime drivers, 8.6 percent tested positive for marijuana or its metabolites, nearly four times the percentage of drivers with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 g/dL (2.2 percent).

      What you've just described is psychological dependence. That can all happen if you're addicted to video games, TV, sex, the internet, among other things.
      In fact, even if it is somewhat physiological, there is one larger widespread drug out there that is more addictive than cannabis which can give you similar "withdrawal" symptoms.
      Caffeine, which has to be the most popular "drug" out there, is more dangerous than cannabis, and is also more addictive. You could viably OD on caffeine, especially if you're using it in a powdered on concentrated form. It would be in grams. You could not viably OD on cannabis! To OD you would have to eat around 22 kg in a small period of time, and smoke around 680 kg in 15 minutes.

    I think the people who smoke weed and go to harder drugs would’ve gotten to them even if they didn’t start at weed. It’s all coincidence. I know plenty of people who have only smoked weed, including myself, and would never dream of going to anything else.

    • @MrBassmann15
      @MrBassmann15 Před 2 lety +29

      A big reason people who smoke weed go to harder drugs is because of their dealers. A dealer will tell their client that they don't have weed this week and will offer a harder drug instead. If weed was made legal, then people wouldn't have to worry about shady dealers.

      I worked with a guy who was totally open about the drugs he and his flatmate did and sold.
      He didn't see a problem with it and you couldn't tell from looking at him that he used drugs.
      Also I'm surprised the Governments of the world haven't figured out the amount of money they'd get from legalising drugs as you can be sure people would rather buy their drugs from a pharmacy where you could guarantee the drugs pureness than from some dodgy guy who may have cut them with all manner of things from baby powder to rat poison.

    • @LilChuunosuke
      @LilChuunosuke Před rokem +2

      Same! And like the first comment said, the fact that we go through dispensaries instead of dealers helps prevent us from going on to harder drugs. But i personally take high CBD for my PTSD, anxiety, and insomnia. It helps me function and helps me *sleep.* Something I've struggled with for as long as I can remember. While all my friends at a party get blackout drunk, fall asleep puking over a toilet, get hangovers that prevent them from going to work the next day, etc. I take a little 5mg thc gummy, get a little dizzy and giggly, and pass out for a full, deep sleep.
      Even less stigmatized drugs feel less appealing to me. Weed is such a mild, tame drug that I really enjoy for it's simplicity.

    • @claudeusgothicus6453
      @claudeusgothicus6453 Před 4 lety +6

      @yeet - Uhmmmm, no. That's not exactly how it works. Although they both interact with cannabinoid receptors, they do so differently.
      If the THC has already entered your system and bound to your cannabinoid receptors, then taking CBD later won't actually have that leveling out effect.
      You personally only have a set number of cannabinoid receptors available. Regardless of whether they pair up with the CBD or the THC, once they pair up they're no longer available for anything else for a set timeframe.
      In theory, if you were to take both the CBD and THC at the same time, it should pretty much cancel out the THC. In practice, this would be impossible to achieve due to several factors.
      It would take endless testing to determine the precise amounts needed to balance each other out exactly considering everyone has their own individual composition of cannabinoid receptors.
      Currently, only two cannabinoid receptors have been identified, although it is believed there are at least three, or possibly even 4.
      CB1 receptors are primarily found in the brain & nervous system while CB2 receptors are concentrated mostly in the immune system & organs.
      Although THC (an antagonist) binds to both CB1 and CB2 receptors CBD (an indirect antagonist) also interacts despite not technically 'binding'.
      It's really easy to understand this when you think of it like this - (the same principle also applies to things like antihistamines)
      Think of it as kind of like trying to put a square peg into a round hole, but the pegs don't go completely through the holes. The pegs are slightly different sizes, and each of these two pegs is drawn towards (they're able to interact with) your cannabinoid receptors. To keep it simple we'll say that your receptors are all circular holes. The THC are round pegs (antagonist = the perfect match) and the CBD will be the square pegs, however, they are slightly smaller than the round pegs which means they can also sit inside of the round hole (indirect antagonist = eliciting a different response)
      When the round THC peg gets to the round receptor hole it matches up perfectly and it plugs the hole - this is known as binding to the receptor.
      Whereas when the square CBD peg gets to that round hole because it's a different shape it cannot fill up the hole perfectly and therefore it cannot plug the hole completely. And the receptor itself reacts differently depending upon whichever peg it has been paired with (antagonist vs indirect antagonist)
      I hope this helps you to understand at least a little better how that system works.

      Look into the source though, as Adam is kinda misquoting it. While it's true that almost no one has dies of marijuana overdose (there is actually a couple), he's comparing apples to oranges. The number for marijuana only covers drug overdoses, while alcohol covered anything from drunk suicide to drunk driving. Most of the rest was from long-term abuse. The tobacco stat is similar, which is funny, as many of the health problems from smoking tobacco comes from inhaling burning fumes, which also happens when you smoke weed, the most popular way to take marijuanna.

First the doctor and I tried to assure her that this use was medically approved and safe, but she had been so brainwashed by propaganda that she was still terrified. The doc gave me a sad look and said carefully, "You misheard, honey. Your mom and I were talking about a different medication. You haven't been given cocaine." She calmed down. When she was older, I told her the truth about drugs. She never abused drugs or alcohol, because she listened to her honest hippie mom and trusted me. The kids will think they're saving their parents from certain death, when the real result will be the kid ending up in foster care! It's hilarious, let's do it! Sure, when they get older some will realize we lied, and they'll think even meth and heroin are safe...but so what? It's not like we really care about anything but how much grant $ we can get!" Some people are monsters.

      @margaretwordnerd5210 Před 3 lety +3

      @@discoguru8363 Glad you asked. Cocaine is an excellent and safe topical anesthesia: when applied to skin or injected into tissue it causes numbness without intoxication (and with no danger of addiction). Consider the names of drugs created from similar chemicals, i.e. lidocaine and novacaine. I was VERY glad the cocaine injected in my daughter's knee relieved the pain enough that she could endure cleansing the wound and stitches. She's 34 now and never had a substance abuse problem...from what I taught her rather than D.A.R.E.! That kind of anti-drug program is worse than useless: when kids realized they've been lied to in the programs, they disbelieve warnings about things that really are dangerous. I told her the truth about everything, including foolish risks I took when young and why I wanted her to be wiser. I figure parents who lie to their kids about drugs will have kids who lie to them about drugs.

      Look into the sources on drug deaths. Adam is kinda misquoting it.

    • @emergentform1188
      @emergentform1188 Před rokem

      @@matts1166 Inhaling a few puffs of bud smoke once in a while is pretty innocuous. For someone to inhale as much mj smoke as a cig smoker would be pretty remarkable. I've known some pretty hardcore chronic potheads in my day and they didn't even come close to that, despite being high all day every day. Chewing tobacco also causes cancer so it's clearly not just the burning that's the issue. Cig tobacco is an extremely heavily processed product with dozens of nasty chemicals added to it for various reasons (such as anesthetics (pain killers), bronchial dilators, chemicals to make nicotine bind more readily to the receptors, etc). Besides, raw tobacco itself, before all the processing and chemicals to make it even worse, is so toxic that eating the amount in just a few cigs would kill an adult, and people who work on farms handling tobacco plants need to wear gloves to prevent getting seriously ill and possibly even dying from nicotine overdose. Yet, weed is one of the least toxic consumable products known, way less toxic in fact that most foods we consume. Also, mj has anticancer properties. So it really makes no sense to compare tobacco and mj in any sense, they could not be more different.

      @matts1166 Před rokem

      @@emergentform1188 I'm not saying weed is as bad as tobacco. I'm saying that the way they tabulated those numbers isn't very standardized. The alcohol stats for instance include all deaths from automobile accidents that include one driver that was under the influence, whether they were at fault for the accident or not. Don't tell me the same standard was held for marijuana. No one with a buzz was ever killed in an automobile accident?
