Thank you for your video. Your diagnosis was spot on with my 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis. I did not purchase a rebuilt EATC unit but instead rebuilt mine for approximately $1.60 in parts and 1.5 hours labor. I saved $1300 which is what the local dealership quoted for the repair. I did not have the vacuum gauge or pump but your description was exactly what I was experiencing with my vehicle so I just took a shot and it worked perfectly.

There is a O-ring kit online for a few dollars to fix that. The unit comes apart and the four solenoids are exposed. Disassemble the solenoids and replace the O-rings. There's small parts in the solenoids ( a spring and a spacer), so be careful. There is a CZcams video showing how it's done. I have a 2004 GMarc with the same problem and fixed it myself.. No need to spend $300-700 on a new head.

I have the exact same car and have the exact same problem EXCEPT my problem comes and goes. It will go off and on and on and off over and over, but fortunately is on more than off. I too don't have the vacuum tester and am an inexperienced mechanic, but I can follow directions. You tube has become my best friend since becoming an 87 year old widow on a tight budget recently. Wish I had you in my town, Mineral Wells Tx.

great video, thank you. I also had no a/c from forward facing vents. I found that there are o-rings in the control unit which are easy to replace, and I did, I got a/c to blow as it should. I started it up, turned on a/c and wow, yes, a/c again. But as soon as I shift into Drive, it goes right back to blowing from defrost vent only. If I shut the car off, then re-start, the a/c starts up as it should, coming from forward vents, and it continues to blow right in Reverse, but as soon as I put it into Drive, I hear something actuate in the dash and it goes right back to defrost vent only. So, with your awesome video I got on the right track, then I found that I fixed one issue but seem to have another.

Ford tech makuloco has a you tube video on fixing these, including the O-Ring part number. You can buy 100 o-rings for 6 bucks on Amazon. There are 4 O-Rings inside that get weak and don't seal vacuum. You could bill more labor and less overpriced control units by doing this easy fix, and best of all No Dorman parts! And no waiting on parts either. Watch his video, you'll be glad you did!

A shop replaced the control head about a year ago and problem returned. Car has about 108,000 miles. The intake has been replaced. Other problems are speedometer inop and gas gauge inop. windshield wipers do not park. I can tolerate those but the no heat from HVAC up here in Detroit, in January 2023

No need to replace the entire climate control unit. This problem can be corrected with 4 silicon o rings and a little dialectric greece for a few dollars. These units were made with poor quality rubber seals, as a matter of fact a replacement unit that you pay 400 for will fail too. All you have to do is open the unit and replace the 4 O rings with silicon o rings and then put some treat them with some dialectric greece. Problem fixed. My O3 grand marquis climate control failed and dealer replaced it for 400 and then the new one failed again. I replaired it myself for almost nothing and it has been working perfectly for years now.

very helpful video.. My AC blows thru defrost 90% of the time (sometimes blows thru typical front vents for maybe 2-3 minutes, then back to defrost. Now, about 3 weeks ago on a warm day i ran AC and noticed that my AC Compressor "Clutch" cycles on and off rapidly while AC is on. Wondered if this is the "AC Compressor Clutch Cycle Switch"? Also, Now i turn heat on and I only get cool air blowing thru the defrost and lower drivers side floor vent (maybe just a little cool air comes from the passengers floor vent). (But No Warm air for heat)... My guess is (3) possible problems: #1---Vacuum Leak somewhere (at Vacuum Check Valve; at Vacuum Resevoir, at EATC module inside)....#2---Faulty EATC Module , ----- and for no Heat Problem...#3---- EATC Hard Self-Test Faults code is 024 (description indicates "Blend Door Short"), (manual indicates short circuit).....i guess possible short circuit at one of the (circuits) at either one of the Electrical Connection Switches (White Connecter Switch, Black Connector Switch behind the EATC module.......or the "Electrical Switch/Connecter on the Blend Door itself, located deep inside the Dash behind the Air bag and Glove Compartment. Any suggestions on fixing these 3 issues would be appreciated.

I need some help. I replaced a hand expansion valve on a 2004 Ford Expedition. I put everything back together and recharged the system and the lines got cold, but my vacuum motors quit working. So I done some research and found that probably the most likely thing that could be wrong is a bad vacuum line. So I checked the vacuum under the hood and it had about 18 1/2 inches of mercury. I made sure I had it hooked up right and it was. Then I went to the manual switch and checked vacuum their and it was good. So then I put vacuum to all three motors and all three of them worked. So I assumed it was a bad switch and I went to the salvage yard and bought one and it done the exact same thing the old one did. So now I am at a loss. Is their anything I am missing?

Great video Jim. I have two Crown Vics, but one is a CVPI, so it doesn't have this fancy HVAC control unit. Manual all they way, which in the abstract I prefer. My 2006 is an LX though, so it has this same unit. As others have stated I'm off to the salvage yard to get a backup even though mine is working fine at the moment. They are obviously way-cheaper at the yard. Just curious ... you said that you can't do that in a shop. I've heard that before and almost implicitly understand it, but when I think openly about it I'm confused as to why. Is it because you don't have any recourse if the unit goes bad, whereas with the part you bought from the parts store you do? Like some type of built-in warranty or something? Thanks

Did you check the vacuum hoses? If the hoses are good the there could be a problem with one of the actuators on the heater/ac box. Thank you for watching. Watch for the next free tool giveaway coming soon.

2000 Econoline the ac/heat defrost all works. When you turn the speed switch from low, medium and high the high does not blow very hard/fast.It blows out but with no real power or high speed it kinda feels like its on medium.Any idea what that could be,the switch itself maybe?Freon is fine too just doesn't blow out the vents with much speed. Thanks

That was a large job you had working on that air conditioner system, and the owner will be glad to have everything working, but will have a heart attack when they see what the cost is. I hope that my system don't get like that one on either of my vehicles.

I love these videos. Everyone shows a different way to accomplish the same thing. I thought it was interesting how you tested the vents by using a tube plugged into the main line and the blue line. Mine was registering at 15, but started blowing air when connecting it to the blue line. I tried changing out the o-rings on the EATC unit, but to no avail. I placed the EATC back into it's position with the tube still directly attached to the blue line. I can't change the vents, but at least I have cold air blowing on my face. Could this be hazardous? I'm hoping by next week I'll have the cash to go to a junk yard and find a different EATC unit.

Hey Erick, First I would check the fuse however you can Press and hold the OFF and FLOOR at the same time then press AUTO within 2 seconds
to run a self test and record any error codes, It has to be above 30 and below 90 outside to run the test or you can get false codes, I would guess you can Google the codes if any.
