If they're competing for a playoff spot at the end of the season, then we'll be looking at a top 3 (maybe #1) 2025 class for AU. Those December commitments/flips would be insane. On the other hand, there's also a very good chance AU has a top 5 2025 class heading into the season, and an 8-4 season is sufficient enough to keep it.
As an Auburn fan I think anything less than 8 wins this season will hurt us. We won't retain this elite WR room with the premium on the position currently and thetransfer portal. Ohio State will steal them away.
I'm a Bama fan and the best friends I've had my whole life were and are Auburn fans. I never understood why both fan bases want the down fall of either team unless playing eachother. I really hope Auburn can be as good as the elite teams. Of course I want Bama to win but I also want Auburn to be a big problem against all others. Auburn has had great teams with great players but terrible head coaches that just couldn't utilize the talent they had. I hope they do explode this year. If they played all year like they do against Bama most years they would be considered elite. Hugh Freeze seems to be heading in the right direction. It would be really exciting if every year the SEC Champs was decided by the Iron bowl or we meet in the playoffs or NC game. Hell yeah... so I pull for them to be successful. State pride. I think they will be good this year with better years to come. Both teams in the playoff every year would be special. My opinion

@mattk5430 you will lose to okl, georgia, bama, Missouri kentucky. Toss up games are cal and texas am. You will play vandy Close this year again giving how they just signed several new mexico st players and staff. I'm not sure how arky going to fare this year, but don't overlook them this year with petrino running the offense. So auburn might be looking at 7-5 at best and 5-7 for the floor, that's if they get caught with the injury bug. You might have picked up some pieces to the depth chart but not enough sustain success in the sec. If hugh can sign a good qb, this cycle, yall might be something in 2025.

Now that Saban is gone, they are sweating bullets...whether they want to admit it or not. Some of them are old enough to remember the Mike/Mike/Mike/Franchione years and know a repeat of that era is possible. Hopefully, it is much, much, much, much, much worse. The majority portion of their fanbase (75%-ish) that disappears when they suck has been crowing loudly for a long time. I remember the period when bama was Auburn's punching bag. Finding a bama fan back then was harder than finding a leprechaun with a pot of gold. I wouldn't mind enjoying some of that again.
If you can successfully hype up Auburn fans born before the mid-2000s then you need a raise.

Payton Thorne doesn’t need to be a world beater to do just fine. Look at him when he was a sophomore at MSU and they had Kenneth Walker and good receivers. I think we can replicate that kind of energy this year…just saying. Now does that mean 11 wins? Probably not…but 9 is not off the table.

Auburn has a chance but we learned through Jimbo fisher RECRUITING DOESN'T MEAN SHIT. How many top classes did Jimbo get at A&M and how did that work? Hugh is gonna have to show he can do something with the talent at Auburn. Hugh Freeze has ALWAYS played the big dogs close but then lose games he should have won (beat Bama but then loses to LSU and Arkansas with no offense at all basically in 2014 in 2015 beat Alabama again but lose to Florida, Arkansas and Memphis ) Hugh has to show he can CONSISTENTLY win which is where he has always struggled.
Unlike aTM Auburn has proven it can take the next step when things work out their way. Auburn isn’t Bama, but in my lifetime, I’ve seen 3 undefeated untied Auburn teams. I’ve seen two one of which wasn’t undefeated play for national championships.

Auburn might go 6-6 again and still sign a top 10 class again. Might be the first team to sign back to back top 10 classes after going 6-6 and not even having winning seasons. Freeze is a savage recruiter.

Last year was definitely NOT because auburn was any good, but rather every team sucked last 2 years in the sec. This season will be much of the same. I really don't see anything different for auburn. Hope in one hand and poop in the other. It'll be another 6 win season with no bowl. Thorne is the biggest issue. We'd be better off with a peewee qb
Except the one time Thorne has had the talent that surrounds him this season, he passed for over 3200 yards which would put him 2nd or 3rd in auburns record books for passing yards in a season without looking it up. He passed for 27 TDs which without looking it up I believe ties him for #1 in auburn’s record books for tds in a season. My point is, when Thorne has had talent surrounding him, he has done exceptional by Auburns historical QB play.
