I think the centripetal force experiment with the cups did not work because the cups were on a too big a surface: the cups that are not exactly entered with with the string will slide off the edges because the board is flat while the path is curved: |( . For all the cups to stay on, the board should have the same curvature as the circumferential path created by that length of string, like this (( . You can compare the flat board to an even worse scenario. Imagine the board had opposite curvature of the path it traveled in, like this )( Everything will slide off! 0:10
Lol. thanks!👌
I'm so confused if you genuinely wrote this or this is satire
Correct. You used a rather good reasoning process even if you don't necessarily understand the specific physics details (although maybe you do) You're one of the surprising few people that got it right, so good job. I am amazed at the number of people that are giving incorrect explanations. The concepts at work here are learned in high school and I've been over 20 years since I was in high school (and I'm not like a teacher or physics major or anything), so I don't know what everyone else's excuse is.
Some additional ways to keep the cups on that you seemingly didn't consider would be to make them heavier and/or have more friction with the platform, since both increase the static friction which is what is being defeated by the lateral components of the [imaginary] centrifugal force. As long as the cups weren't filled too high too, since the water level itself will still curve within the cups.
@@MsHojat hey! I am also not a physics major or anything, but i studied this stuff super enthustiacally in my sci clg. My explaination is:
1. The cups didnt slide but instead "flinged out" from board. So, it isnt friction *only* to blame, but its also the path and speed/velocity of rotation. He didnt have a *perfect symetrical circular path with same velocity of rotation.* Notice how his centre of rotation (which should be at his elbow) moves too much off centre, causing the cups to fling off (resultant force isnt same.) in its own path according to newton's 1st law(thing moves for eternity, till someone stops it.)
2. Friction depends on normal force(independent of material) and coefficient of friction (which depends on material used.) F=N×u
3. The resultant force should be 0, where the centri-petal and -fugal force should cancel each other in order for cup to remain stationary in its frame of reference. But... *the off centre rotation caused a small linear pathing for cups. In this moment it resulted into 2 things:
A. The change in velocity of rotation causes accelaration which causes the cups to move across the board(opposite of rotation direction i.e. Backwards.), but the friction didnt allow it(opposite direction of accelaration force. i.e. Forwards.), so they instead flinged off the board.
B. The offcentre rotation caused change in centripetal and centrifugal force amounts, where the centripetal force (tension in rope) changed, which changed the *normal force* for friction and caused the cups to fling off the linear path.
Solution: 1. he should have used his *shoulders instead.* it would have been *better anchor point* for centre of rotation.
2. He should have rotated it faster but at equal speeds/velocity for the cups to remain stationary in any frame of ref.
The teacher was trying to demonstrate how centripetal force would keep the water in the cups, which is how gravity works. And the cups and water in the middle did stay on. What the teacher forgot to account for was the initial momentum from the swing that sent the outer cups flying. That demonstration works best with a single bucket.
Yes! You have to keep things 'in line' for the centrifugal effect.
Is that how the human centipede works too?

2:43 This isn't a map of all the underwater pipes and cables, this is a map of all of the sections of ocean that we have accurately measured the depth of using multibeam echosounders. (as the website actually states if you click on the icon in the bottom right.)
Most of our oceans have had their depth estimated by satellite, which gives broad and undetailed results. And if you want to actually lay a cable, or have an accurate survey of the ocean's depth for safe operation and navigation of various watercraft for sub-surface operations or for scientific intrigue, these satellite estimates may not cut it. So that's why we have these additional surveys for a more detailed scan of the oceans depth.
Just fact checked that and you are correct! Moral of the story? Don't believe everything you see, especially on the Internet and especially on youtube! 🤭
Random comment to help boost this up.
So, it technically is a map of the cables as every cable that was placed was along those survey paths?
This is a better detailed correction, than the one I saw above…
@@datengineer2174well, not every survey path has cables and pipes, but every cable/pipe likely has a survey path. It would instead be a map of said cables, pipes, and survey paths without cables or pipes.

The guy who dropped the soda and it landed perfectly on the shelf, I think that's just life's way of telling him he needs to stop drinking soda.
Thunder snow is what it's called when a snow cloud forms lightning and thunder. It's only one bolt of lightning not continous bolts like in a summer storm. I've seen it twice in person, there's video of the weather channel anchor Jim Cantore who was live on the air and captured the footage. We was so excited to see it in person, it was cool to see a grown man so excited about a weather phenomenon like thunder snow.
It isn't continuous strikes? I've personally seen one with multiple. I've actually never seen a thundersnow that only had 1 strike.
It may be couple of strikes, I've heard this last month and thought that it was a missile attack at 4:00 AM (I'm from Ukraine, and it's more usual to hear bombing here than thunder in February).
I saw it a few weeks ago and I was so weirded out because I have never seen it and didn’t even know it could happen and I have lived in a cold country my entire life. Even stranger is that it hit my parents’ neighbour’s house who live a few Km away from me
