  • If you watched my last video, I talked about five reasons why I love flying private jets and what is great about business aviation. Here I do the opposite. I highlight five things that suck about business aviation and give some insight into some struggles we face in the industry. This is meant to help anyone interested in being a pilot by being transparent about the ups and downs of flying business jets around the world. Thank you for watching. Your support, feedback and comments drive me to do more. Soar to your full potential.

This is absolutely accurate. I’m a corporate pilot, and can’t even count how many times I’ve tried to make plans and had to cancel due to a flight popping up. Last thanksgiving, I was eating with my family when the phone rang, and I had get my uniform on, then go out the door. On the flip side, when you go somewhere nice, it’s like a paid vacation. It can be very rewarding, but there are sacrifices that go along with it.

One thing I would like to add in the part 91 world if the owner does bad one year typically the first thing to go is the Jet and therefore our job.

I used to work for an Aircraft Maintenance Facility in the DFW area. We had a Contract with Netjets to provide service and maintenance on their aircraft that flew into and out of the DFW area.
Working for and on Netjets aircraft was not a problem for us. Like all Aircraft Operators, Netjets wanted their planes flying as often as possible and as inexpensive as possible. No problem there, as long as safety of flight remains the priority.
After working in the Corporate Aircraft Industry since 1980, I have to admit that Netjets Pilots we're the most unhappy Pilots concerning their Employer.

ATP is a joke. They went up on the price on their fast track program. One thing I respect about the program is that they now evaluate your skill to determine if you’ll be a good fit.
There is no charter company that gives you a set schedule. It seems like you are completely alienated from the passengers because they’re rich and think they’re better than you. Sometimes you have to perform flight attendant duties and help them with their luggage. I found only 10% of the wealthy will actually speak to you.
You just wait one day you will have to divert and you’ll see what the company will say after the customers complain.
Good luck to you and fly safe.

But then again, that would be an issue for many professionals, but without the perks you enjoy. I don't know, maybe I'm too harsh, but listening to you complain over what I would consider minor issues was annoying. I was thinking of my days in the Army where I took a MUCH greater risk, under MUCH more adverse circumstances, with MUCH less pay, but without complaining because I loved what I was doing and because I recognized the importance of it.
