Just think of the times when the logs won't be rolling in. You'll be able to get caught up. Here's a word of wisdom from my grandfather when my uncle asked him, "How did you get all thst work done farming with horses?" To that he replied, "We didn't sit around half the morning drinking coffee." Sounds like a good Sunday sermon or something you could use on getting the job done. Log hauler Jesse has the same work ethic of my grandfather.

Joe it's so nice you are getting in so many logs. Stack all you can on the new end of the original pile, where Jessi stacked today, and on your emergency pile. All the while working on processing the original wood. With your size tractor, I wouldn't be afraid to stack in your original space a little higher. Just an after though, may should've started stacking your firewood just a little farther away so you could possibly have two identical log piles. Either way can't wait to see what you come up with.

Well done Jesse! Elaine from Canada here, always nice to see another video of precision off-loading. Joe, if you’re getting serious about production growth I think your idea about getting a larger live deck if you need it, is a viable option, it would serve you well in both time and energy, also not having to sharpen/ replace as many chains as you saw through a thousand logs to make them fit on your existing live deck. I’m sure you could hammer out a good deal either selling or trading in the original one. ( just my two cents as I sit in my armchair sipping coffee!) Some of the past few nights here are barely above freezing, squirrels are busy gathering pine cones, I can’t help but feel the change in season , aagghh! Keep on keepin’ on Joe, have a great week, cheers from up north.

As for your live deck, look for sawmill green chains. Around 2006 we had a sawmill expanding and i got their 60 ft green chain from their old mill and let me tell ya when i load it up its a good 6 hrs of processing with multitek 2040 i got. If i have someone to load it for me we can run thru 3 to 4 log trucks of wood in 12 hrs. And ya never have enough room. Started with 5 acres in the 90's for firewood , bought another 7 acres in 2004, than bought another 13 acres from another neighbor in 2012. Keep the chips flying. 😊

I have been in firewood for 35 years before I was injured and illness made me retire, but seasoned firewood is but money in the bank, no matter how much you think you have, you will never actually have enough, building a better loading and delivering scheme is also very important, one's wood would definitely be better after 2 years,

@ohiowoodburner that flip up tray that fits under the end of the log while you're cutting it, I don't know the name of it. I've seen you use it, not only when it gets to the end of the log, and providing the log is of right size and straight. As the cylinder is pushing the bottom round forward through the knives, you're already cutting the next round with the tray up so as the cylinder comes back you can drop the top round from the tray and repeat. It's a very slick and rhythmic motion which can increase production without hurting machinery or man. Keep up the good work

Good Joe: The woodyard is looking great. A couple of suggestions for you. Consider a second row of logs where the stacked Ash is. That would give the ability to use up one row of logs and still have plenty of on hand. Kind of a first in first out rotation. Unless you have a bigger machine like a large compact track loader, moving full length logs will be tough. The tractor loader arms would likely get torqued by moving such long logs. I use a loggers tape and cut my logs at an exact length to reduce off cuts.

    • @ohiowoodburner

Poor Joe.....went from not being able to get enough logs last year to not being able to keep up with the logs this year! 😆 A pretty good problem to have!

Be a good idea just to make a key for Jes, unless you don’t trust him with it 🙃.

You got all those logs 'cos you're not processing them fast enough. One feeder full a day is no good for business whatever. Two at least, maybe three. Less playing at it.

I'm a sole proprietor and I do what I can. I have to pace myself or I won't get anything done!

Time to stop Yapping and get on the Japa. (Ok bad pun). Time to expand the payroll of OWB. Find a local teenage farmer who can run your tractor and feed the log deck and then hire the local high school football team as your stacking army.

If I was closer to you, I’d give 5-6 hrs of work just for the exercise.
