Does this book tell people how to change this? I'm an abandoner and a critic so I would like to change this in myself.
Thank you for your vulnerability and honesty and for reaching out! It's been a while since I read the book but I do believe that there are tips in the book on being a safe person as well as finding them.
Two other resources I would highly recommend are Changes That Heal by Dr. Cloud - this goes into the psychology of healing old wounds and becoming an integrated person. Unhealed wounds tend to cause the types of behavior you describe.

It does not provoke people that is hate It admits wrong doing and works when possible to correct it You remember the story of Zacches Luke 19 he realized his sin and paid back what he stole He held the people hostage by not returning what he stole Just like what they did here You cannot rob God and have good character
